ArchSymb uses a 7 pen layering system Colors are used to assign pen weights for plotting Layers are named in the following format Field 1 Construction Category Field 2 Major Group Field 3 Minor Group X XXXX XXXX A single letter designating the type of construction i e Architectural Structural Mechanical and Plumbing represents the construction category The hyphen following the construction category indicates this is new construction The first hyphen is replaced by an X for existing to be demolished E for existing to remain F for future etc Refer to Appendix E for a complete listing of the most commonly used layer names used with ArchSymb Use 54 LAYER to pick the layering system needed depending on the phase of your drawing i e existing new demo Be sure to use the layers best applicable for the task you are performing The creation of new layers not listed in Appendix E or in the templates should follow the AIA guidelines The chart in Appendix E represents the standard layer colors with associated pen weights for a standard drawing These standards have been applied in devising the layers available through Layer tab of the ArchSymb Manager ArchSymb 5 Page 13 Chapter 3 DOORS and WINDOWS Doors Use this routine for inserting a door s into a wall The steps listed below will place the symbol on the right layer and insert it with the correct orientation PArchSymb 5
