2. 2 Keyboard The keyboard is composed of 26 alphanumerical keys 8 function keys a backspace key an escape key a space key and an enter key Escape key The ESC key allows you to cancel an operation such as typing the name of a doctor 4 Backspace key The BS key allows you to go back one space to correct mistakes ABC key Allows you to enter uppercase text The operation of this key can be changed Refer to the RM P110 Remote Control Unit User s Guide for details 6 abc key Allows you to enter lowercase text The operation of this key can be changed Refer to the RM P110 Remote Control Unit User s Guide for details Function keys You can assign strings of up to 16 characters to each of the 8 function keys This allows you to assign doctor names patient names or procedure names to the function keys Refer to the RM P110 Remote Control Unit User s Guide for details 11 Preliminary Connections Before using the UPA P100MD locally or through a network you need to make certain connections To make these connections use the following procedure RM P110 Remote Control Unit AC Power Inlet Locate the UPA P100MD s power cord On the rear panel of the device locate the AC inlet Connect the female end of the power cord

Mode of operation Continuous Design and specifications are subject to change without notice Before Using the Digital Capture Unit About the Hard Disk Compared to a floppy disk a hard disk has a greater memory capacity and needs less time to write or read data However dust and vibrations affect a hard disk s performance Furthermore the same as for a floppy disk a hard disk should never be placed near magnetic fields Hard disks contain built in safety mechanisms to protect data against dust and vibrations However to avoid losing data you should take the following precautions Do not use the hard disk in areas prone to vibrations or on unstable surfaces Do not move the hard disk while it is on Do not turn the power off while the hard disk is performing an operation Do not use the hard disk in areas prone to sudden temperature fluctuations i e more than 10 C Note that if the hard disk is damaged data may not be recoverable Do not forget to back up the data on the hard disk Make sure to back up images saved on the hard disk of the UPA P100MD on a regular basis Sony denies any responsibility if data saved on the hard disk becomes unrecoverable Make sure that the power cord and other connectors are properly connected Improperly connected power cord or connectors constitute a risk of fire or electric shock About the rear connectors Confirm that the cable connectors you are usi

Save Config To access the configuration screen once more you need to type the address specified in the IP Address box i e http network IP address in the Address box of you Internet browser click Configuration then click Refresh Do not click Back on your browser e Star Over Click this button to cancel all the changes that you ve made in the configuration screen The configuration screen settings return to those at the time of opening the configuration screen 18 Using the Digital Capture Unit consists of 4 major operations all of which can be done using the remote control These operations are grabbing images viewing images printing images and saving images to CD R disc For details about remote control operations refer to the RM P110 User s Guide Grabbing Images To capture images from a video device using the RM P110 Remote Control Unit use the following procedure If you are using a custom made device to control the UPA P100MD the procedure to grab images depends on your control device Before you begin using the device as described below please make sure that a video device is properly connected to the UPA P100MD and turned on The connection procedure depends on your video device f you are using a digital video printer UPA D50 or UPA D70XR also make sure that it is properly connected and turned on 1 Turn on the Digital Capture Unit After approximately 1 minute you hear 3
9. and hold the 1 key then turn on the UPA P100MD The following screen appears SETUP MODE find Communication Display Keyboard RS 232C signals 2 Using the or gt keys move the cursor to the setting that you want to modify Press the ENT key to select a mode Refer to the table on the next page for the meaning of the display items in this screen 3 Use the and gt keys to move to the desired item Use the f and l keys to change the setting Repeat for other settings When you finish making all the settings in one screen press the ENT key This takes you to the next screen of the selected Setup Mode item or back to the SETUP MODE screen Repeat steps 2 and 3 as necessary 4 When you finish making all the desired settings move the cursor to End in the SETUP MODE screen and press the ENT key The RM P110 returns to the screen displayed just before entering the Setup Mode The operating state settings made in the Setup Mode are stored in EEPROM electrically erasable ROM so that the settings are retained even when the remote control is off 35 SETUP MODE screen item End Contents Explanation Select to exit the Setup Mode Communication COMMUNICATION SPEED Select the communication speed for data transfer Available choices are 110 150 300 600 1200 2400 4800 9600 and 19200 bps By default this is 9600

11. disk of the UPA P100MD The date that an image was captured appears above the image when you open it 3 Click the image The download process begins Follow the instructions on the screen 4 Repeat for other images as necessary 5 When you finish saving images to your computer select the address of the UPA P100MD in the Address box of your Internet browser The Sony UPA P100MD screen appears 6 Click Configuration to access the configuration screen 24 7 In the Expiration Time days box type a number of days lower than the current setting Be sure to type an expiration time that will only delete the images that you have saved in steps 2 to 4 If you do not images that have not been backed up but exceed the new expiration time are deleted by the UPA P100MD when you click Save Config in step 8 resulting in the loss of images Click Save Config The UPA P100MD restarts When the UPA P100MD restarts all the images on the UPA P100MD hard disk that exceed the new expiration time are deleted clearing space on the hard disk Access the configuration screen again return Expiration Time days to its original setting and click Save Config Saving Images to CD R discs 1 Follow the procedure outlined in Viewing Images to access the images of specific doctors and patients on the UPA P100MD Note the names of doctors and patients that you want to save to CD R disc When Enter Patients name

19. 30 Save Config Start Over E lel Done bn lo Internet e Hospital Unit Name Hospital Video NTSC C PAL Type the name of the hospital clinic or department associated with the Digital Capture Unit This area can be composed of a maximum of 7 alphanumerical characters When capturing images this name automatically becomes part of the file name saved on the hard disk therefore a short name is preferable When consulting your files it makes it easier to determine their origin Note You can only use alphanumerical characters upper and lowercase and hyphens with the UPA P100MD All other characters are rejected including spaces In the configuration screen an error message appears to tell you so when you click Save Config to inform you if there are illegal characters in use or a name exceeds the maximum permitted length This setting needs to be adjusted according to the type of incoming video signal PAL or NTSC This usually depends on the country in which the device is used Color Color Mono This setting needs to be adjusted according to the type of incoming video signal Color saves images as 24 bit color images whereas Mono saves images as 8 bit black and white images e Remote Control Unit Support M Be sure to select this box when you use the RM P110 Remote Control Unit and want to input your patient doctor and procedure names When you clear Remote Control Unit Support the unit assigns names automati
