USB oscilloscope OverclockersClub Forums Friday December 04 2009 11 06 AM D Aug 11 2009 01 29 AM Post 1 New Member Group Members Posts 4 Joined 11 August 09 Member No 68 345 I just purchased one ofthe DSO 2090 usb scopes from China on eBay They all look the same just with different brand names on the case I set it up and calibrated it easily despite the poor user s manual installed on an old Compaq 1200 with Windows ME The battery is dud so I was running it with power supply on All looked good I was ecstatic the only scope I have is an ancient valve model I decided to display my mains Australian 240V 50Hz on the screen as a test The inputs are labeled 35volts max so selected x10 on the probe and set the display parameters appropriately 5v div x10 When I went to connect the alligator clip to the neutral wire the probe point itself was clear of everything I was only connecting the alligator clip there was a big zap and everything went dark The unit smells burnt and the laptop she don t work no more Totally lifeless I connected the unit to another computer but it too is lifeless What the hell happened if I had shorted the probe or input too high a voltage I could understand but I was just connecting the ground clip to the mains neutral The laptop was worthless but the DSO 2090 cost about AU 220 There must be heaps of these units in use by now Can anybody help Inserted from lt http for
