1. Right Handrail 97 remove the tie Pull 3 to 4 of the Wire Harness 26 out of the Right Upright 14 Feed the Wire Harness through the bracket on the Right Handrail and out of the indicated hole If necessary use needle nose pliers to grip the connectors on the Wire Harness Insert the bracket on the Right Handrail 97 into the upper end of the right Upright 14 with the lower end of the Right Handrail on the Extension Leg 34 as shown Hand tighten a Short Handrail Bolt 74 with a Washer 32 into the upper end of the Upright Attach the Left Handrail 2 to the left Upright 14 as de scribed above Note There is no wire in the left Upright 4 With the help of a second person carefully tip the Uprights 14 down as shown Align the lower ends of the Handrails 2 with the holes in the Extension Legs 41 Be careful not to scratch the Extension Legs Tighten a Long Handrail Bolt 15 with a Washer 16 into each Extension Leg and Handrail Attach the Bolts and Washers at the angle shown in the inset drawing matching the angle of the Handrail With the help of a second person carefully tip the Uprights 14 back to the upright position Make sure that the Long Handrail Bolts 15 and the Short Handrail Bolts 74 see drawings 3 and 4 are fully tightened 5 Place the Console Base 6 on the Right and Left Handrail 97 2 Make a loop with the indicated plastic tie and insert the two Wires 26 through the lo

7. d spilling liquids on the console and use only a sealable water bottle BATTERY INSTALLATION The console requires three AA batteries not in cluded Alkaline batteries are recommended Open the battery cover as shown in the drawing at the upper right Insert three batteries into the battery compart ment making sure that the negative ends of the batteries are touching the springs in the battery com partment Batteries Close the battery cover push up on the battery cover tab and then push the tab forward as shown in the inset drawing Be sure that the tab locks into place STEP BY STEP CONSOLE OPERATION Before operating the console make sure that the power cord is properly plugged in See HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD on page 7 Stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Find the clip at tached to the key and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothing Next insert the key into the console Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps back ward until the key is pulled from the console If the key is not pulled from the console adjust the posi tion of the clip as needed 1 Insert the key fully into the power switch Inserting the key will not turn on the dis plays The displays will turn on when the ON RESET button is pressed or when the walking belt is started Note If you just installed batteries the displays will already be on 2 Reset the speed control Sl
8. ed time and distance that you have walked or run in miles Every seven seconds the display will change from one num ber to the other as shown by the arrows in the display 5 j CALS FAT CALS TIME DISTANCE SPEED display This display shows the ap proximate numbers of ca orres and fat calories you have burned See FAT BURNING on page 14 In addition the display shows the speed of the walk ing belt in miles per hour the display will change fro next as shown by the arrd To reset the displays at a CALS F CALS SPEED ON RESET button When you are finished exercising stop the walking belt and remove the key Step onto the foot rails slide the speed control to the RESET position and remove the key from the console The displays will turn off about five minutes after the key is removed Note Any time that the walking belt is stopped and the ON RESET button is not pressed for five minutes the displays will automatically turn off in order to conserve the batteries Ole ON RESET HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill unplug the power cord CAUTION You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds 20 kg in order to raise lower or move the treadmill 1 Hold the treadmill with your hands in the locations shown at the right To decrease the possibility of injury bend your legs and keep your back straight As you raise the t

10. er vena mallet wire cutters lt gt needle nose pliers and adjustable wrench amp 3 Note The underside of the treadmill walking belt is coated with high performance lubricant During shipping a small amount of lubricant may be transferred to the top of the walking belt or the shipping carton This is a normal condition and does not affect treadmill performance If there is lubricant on top of the walking belt simply wipe off the lubricant with a soft cloth and a mild non abrasive cleaner Cc cea NO Extension Leg Screw 34 2 AW O apo MNO O Handrail Screw 88 Short Handrail Bolt 74 2 Washer 32 2 Washer 16 2 1 With the help of a second person carefully raise the Uprights 14 until the treadmill is in the position shown Remove all packing materials 2 Insert one of the Extension Legs 41 into the treadmill as shown Make sure that the Base Pad 36 is on the indi cated side Note It may be helpful to tip the Uprights 14 in the direction shown by the arrow as you insert the Extension Leg To fully insert the Extension Leg it may be necessary to tap it with a mallet Attach the Extension Leg 41 with an Extension Leg Screw 34 Be sure to push on the head of the Extension Leg Screw while tightening it Attach the other Extension Leg 41 in the same way 3 Refer to the inset drawing If there is a plastic tie holding the Cage Nut 3 in the
11. for a correct speed reading a 12 PROBLEM The incline will not work SOLUTION a Make sure that the two wires under the console are fully plugged in Refer to assembly step 5 on page 6 WARNING Do not disconnect or connect the wires while the treadmill power cord is plugged in PROBLEM The walking belt slows when walked on SOLUTION a Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 7 b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor mance may decrease and the walking belt may be come damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller adjustment bolts counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord in sert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened Rear Roller Adjustment Bolts c If the walking belt still slows when walked on call our Customer Service Department toll free PROBLEM The walking belt is off center or slips when walked on SOLUTION a If the walking belt has shifted to the left first re move the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the wal
12. for fat burning and aerobic exercise HEART RATE TRAINING ZONES AEROBIC 165 155 145 MAX FAT BURN 145 138 130 FAT BURN 125 120 115 Age 20 30 40 To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age at the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers at the top of your age The three numbers are your training zone The lower two numbers are recommended heart rates for fat burning the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories tor energy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored at calories tor energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near one of the lower two numbers in your training zone It may also be helpful to set the speed control on the console to FAT BURN to help you main tain the proper intensity level See page 9 Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs t

15. king belt If the walking belt has shifted to the right turn the left rear roller bolt counterclockwise 1 2 of a turn Plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered b If the walking belt slips when walked on first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller bolts clockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tight ened you should be able to lift each side of the walk ing belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord insert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened 13 CONDITIONING GUIDELINES AWARN ING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physician This is especially important for in dividuals over the age of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex ercise program For more detailed exercise informa tion obtain a reputable book or consult your physician EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recommended heart rates
16. o oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone It may also be helpful to set the speed control on the console to AEROBIC to help you maintain the proper intensity level See page 9 High Performance Athletic Conditioning If your goal is high performance athletic conditioning set the speed control on the console to PERFOR MANCE to help you maintain the proper intensity level See page 9 Note During the first few weeks of your exercise program keep your heart rate near the low end of your training zone HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEART RATE To measure your heart rate stop ex j ercising and place Q OJ two fingers on your 7 wrist as shown Take a six second heartbeat count and multiply the re sult by ten to find your heart rate A six second count is used because your heart rate drops quickly when you stop exercis ing If your heart rate is too high or too low adjust the speed or incline of the treadmill accordingly WORKOUT GUIDELINES A well rounded workout includes the following three important parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise 666 SUGGESTED STRETCHES on page 15 A proper warm up increases your body temperature heart rate and circulation in preparation for exercise 14 Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensi
17. oid sudden jumps in speed 17 Never leave the treadmill unattended while it is running Always remove the key and un plug the power cord when the treadmill is not in use 18 Do not attempt to raise lower or move the treadmill until it is properly assembled See ASSEMBLY on page 5 and HOW TO FOLD 21 22 Inspect and tighten all parts of the treadmill every three months Never drop or insert any object into any opening DANGER Always unplug the power cord immediately after use before cleaning the treadmill and before performing the maintenance and adjustment procedures described in this manual Never remove the motor hood unless instructed to do so by an authorized service representative Servicing other than the procedures in this manual should be performed by an autho rized service representative only AND MOVE THE TREADMILL on page 10 You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds 20 kg to raise lower or move the treadmill 23 This treadmill is intended for in home use only Do not use this treadmill in any com mercial rental or institutional setting 19 When folding or moving the treadmill make sure that the storage latch is fully closed AWARN l NG Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physician This is especially important for persons over the age of 35 or persons with pre existing health problems Read all instructions before using ICON assumes no responsibility for
18. op Pull out only enough Wire to connect the Wires to the two connectors in the Console Base Plug the red connector into the correspond ing connector in the Console Base The connectors should fit together without being forced if they do not rotate the red connector on the Wire and try again Do not force the connectors together Plug the other Wire into the connec tor on the Console Base Important Make sure that both Wires are fully inserted IF THE CONNECTORS ARE NOT INSERTED PROPERLY THE CONSOLE MAY BE DAMAGED WHEN THE POWER IS TURNED ON WARNING Do not disconnect or connect the Wires while the treadmill power cord is plugged in Pull the plastic tie tight and cut off the end Refer to 5b Thread four Screws 88 into the Left and Right Handrails 2 97 and the Console Base 6 After all four Screws have been started tighten the screws until they are snug do not overtighten the Screws 6 Attach the Storage Latch 12 to the left Upright 14 with the two Latch Screws 13 Be careful not to over tighten the Latch Screws 7 Be sure all parts are tightened before using the tread mill Keep the included allen wrench in a secure place The allen wrench is used to adjust the walking belt see page 13 To protect the floor place a mat under the treadmill 6 OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PERFORMANT LUBE WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with PERFORMANT LUBE a high perfo

22. readmill make sure to lift with your legs rather than your back Raise the treadmill about halfway to the vertical position 2 Move your right hand to the position shown and hold the treadmill firmly Raise the treadmill until the storage latch closes over the catch If necessary press the upright to the left Make sure that the storage latch is fully en gaged over the catch To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sunlight Do not leave the treadmill in the stor age position in temperatures above 85 Fahrenheit HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL Before moving the treadmill convert the treadmill to the stor age position as described above Make sure that the stor age latch is closed fully over the catch 1 Hold the upper ends of the handrails Place one foot on the base as shown 2 Tilt the treadmill back until it rolls freely on the front wheels Carefully move the treadmill to the desired loca tion To reduce the risk of injury use extreme caution while moving the treadmill Do not move the treadmill over an uneven surface 3 Place one foot on the base and carefully lower the tread mill until it is resting in the storage position 10 Engaged HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1 Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand as shown Using your left thumb press the storage latch and hold it Pivot the treadmill until the frame
23. rmance lubricant IMPORTANT Never apply silicone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking plat form Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD A DANGER Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in an increased risk of electric shock Check with a qualified electrician or service man if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded Do not modify the plug provided with the product f it will not fit the outlet have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician Your treadmill like any other type of sophisticated electronic equipment can be seriously damaged by sudden voltage changes in your home s power Voltage surges spikes and noise interference can result from weather conditions or from other appliances being turned on or off To decrease the possibility of your treadmill being damaged always use a surge suppressor with your treadmill see drawing 1 at the right To purchase a surge suppressor see your local PROFORM dealer or call 1 800 806 3651 and order part number 146148 Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that is UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge sup pressor TVSS The surge suppressor must have a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 1

25. s off during use a Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill frame near the power cord see the drawing above If the circuit breaker has tripped wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in b Make sure that the power cord is plugged in c Make sure that the two wires under the console are fully plugged in Refer to assembly step 5 on page 6 WARNING Do not disconnect or connect the wires while the treadmill power cord is plugged in d Unplug the power cord wait for five minutes and then plug the power cord back in e Remove the key from the console Reinsert the key fully into the console f If the treadmill still will not run please call our Customer Service Department toll free The displays of the console do not function properly a Check the batteries in the console If the batteries need to be replaced see BATTERY INSTALLATION on page 8 Most problems are the result of drained batteries b Remove the key from the console and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Remove the screws from the hood Carefully remove the hood Locate the Reed Switch 86 and the Magnet 87 on the left side of the Pulley 85 Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1 8 If necessary loosen the Screw 82 and move the Reed Switch slightly Retighten the Screw Re attach the hood and run the treadmill for a few minutes to check
