MABIS MA HEALTHCARE Taking care of your health care needs Self Taking Home Blood Pressure Kit Instruction Manual for models 04 174 021 and 04 174 026 Need help Call our Toll Free Customer Care Helpline 800 622 4714 To achieve the maximum benefit from your blood pressure kit we recommend that you first consult with your physician or trained health care professional Product Identification Thank you for purchasing a MABIS Self Taking Blood Pressure Kit With proper care and use your kit will provide you with many years of reliable readings Lay cuff on a flat surface with the metal D ring to the left and the metal chestpiece facing up The unit can be assembled as outlined below Step 1 Fold the right end of the cuff over the chestpiece and insert the end of the cuff through the metal D ring Step 2 Insert the single end of the Y tubing into the stem of the chestpiece to form a stethoscope Step 3 Remove the metal binaurals from the polybag and insert the ends into the Y tubing Step 4 Attach the gauge to the tubing to the left of the stetho scope Step 5 Attach the inflation bulb to the tubing to the right of the stethoscope Remember THE WHITE ARTERY PATCH WILL BE ON THE OUTSIDE AND THE CHESTPIECE IS ON THE INSIDE OF THE CUFF Also if folded correctly the hook and loop material will be on the outside of the cuff Note The adult cuff Model 04 174 021 fits an arm

Your Blood Pressure Reading 1 Insert the eartips into your ears You can adjust the metal binaural for comfort Measurement value becomes lower 2 Rest your elbow ona table with your arm facing upward Elevate your hand so that the cuff is at the same level as your heart Relax your left hand Correct measurement position at same height as heart Measurement value becomes higher i V 3 Position the gauge so it can be read without being moved It can be clipped to something such as a kitchen towel for stability 4 Hold the inflation bulb with your right hand and turn the air release valve clockwise to close 5 Begin inflating the cuff SLOWLY AND STEADILY by pumping the inflation bulb until the gauge reads 30 mmHG ABOVE your last known SYSTOLIC measurement If you do not know your last known SYSTOLIC measurement inflate to approximately 180 200 mmHg CAUTION TO PREVENT INJURY TO YOURSELF AND OR THE UNIT NEVER INFLATE THE CUFF ABOVE 280 mmHg Taking Your Blood Pressure Readin 6 Upon reaching the proper inflation level SLOWLY Open AND STEADILY turn the air valve counter clockwise vao at a rate of 2 3 mmHg per second d A Note Reading 7 As the pressure begins to drop at First Sound carefully listen for your pulse N beat Note and record the first thumping sound you hear This is your SYSTOLIC pressure 8 Allow the cuff to continue to d
4. d keeping the cuff at the same level as your heart Smile and relax Applying Your Blood Pressure Cuff IMPORTANT Make sure that the unit is assembled correctly Check eartips to make sure they are securely fastened i Extend your left arm Find your brachial Open the cuff so that you can slide your arm With your arm extended Sit upright but relaxed in a chair with a back Keep your feet flat on the floor Remove any constrictive clothing from your left arm artery which is at the inner aspect of your elbow You may or may not feel your pulse Brachial artery into it Do not extend the cuff beyond the metal bar Insert your left arm into the cuff Position the bottom edge of the cuff approximately one half inch ABOVE your elbow The chestpiece must directly touch the inside of your arm over your brachial artery see step 2 Bottom Edge Stethoscope palm facing upward and tubes positioned down the center of your arm use your right hand to pull the end of the cuff and secure Y tubing the hook and loop material Hook material MAKE SURE THE CHESTPIECE REMAINS OVER THE BRACHIAL ARTERY Loop material The cuff should fit comfortably yet snugly around your arm Check for any gaps between the arm and the cuff NOTE The left arm should be used unless you are unable to or should not use your left arm Consult with your physician to assess which arm is best for you to use Taking
