Expansion slot 2 Riser card connectors To install an adapter complete the following steps 1 Read the safety information that begins on page and l Installation guidelines on page 17 2 Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cord and all external cables 3 Remove the cover see l Removing the cover on page 18 IBM xSeries 306m Types 8849 and 8491 User s Guide 10 11 Riser card assembly SE Grasp the riser card assembly at the rear edge and lift to remove the riser card assembly Place the riser card assembly on a flat static protective surface Remove the expansion slot cover on the slot that you intend to use Attention PCI expansion slot covers must be installed on all vacant slots This maintains the electronic emissions characteristics of the server and ensures proper cooling of server components Touch the static protective package that contains the adapter to any unpainted metal surface on the server Then remove the adapter from the static protective package Avoid touching the components and gold edge connectors on the adapter Place the adapter component side up on a flat static protective surface and set any jumpers or switches as described by the adapter manufacturer if necessary If the adapter is a ServeRAID 8i controller complete the following steps to install the low profile expansion slot bracket on the adapter a Unscrew the two
