1. illustrated below DT321 Board The analogue output to be data logged connect to the front panel of the terminal box using the 8 BNC connectors labelled INPUT1 INPUT 8 External trigger channel and encoder input connect to the back panel of the terminal box The External trigger channel connects to the BNC connector The signal connected to the external channel must be a TTL 0 5V signal The encoder input allows connection of a TTL encoder The pin layout of the connector is illustrated below ie 3 Pt a 4 O O 1 3 ka ff Pin 1 is connected to 5V output of the terminal box and can be used as a supply voltage for an encoder Pin 2 is the ground signal Pin 4 is connected to the external trigger input of the terminal box therefore channel A or Z of an encoder can be connected to this input to trigger an acquisition on encoder pulses Pin 4 is also link to the external trigger BNC connector therefore no signal must be connected to the external trigger BNC input when signal is connected to pin 4 of the encoder input Pin 5 is connected to Input 1 of the terminal box so either channel A or Z of an encoder can be connected to the analogue input to be data logged No signal should be connected to the Input 1 BNC connector on the front panel of the terminal box when a signal is connected to the pin 5 of the encoder input connector Operation Once the software has been successfully set up the main COMPEND window will be similar to th

HSD High Speed Data Acquisition General Description The high speed data acquisition system consists of a DT321 PCI board and a terminal box The system allows acquisition with a resolution of 16 bits of 8 analogue inputs in the range of 10V at a frequency up to 250 kHz Installation The software for the DT321 board needs to be loaded on the computer by performing the following steps 1 Insert the Data Acquisition OMNI CD into your CD ROM drive If the Data Acquisition Software set up program starts automatically proceed to step 4 2 Click Start from the Task Bar then click Run The Run dialog box appears 3 In the Command Line edit box enter X LAUNCH EXE where X is the letter of your CD ROM drive Click Ok The Data Acquisition Software set up program starts 4 Click Install Products A list of software products that you can install appears 5 Click Device Drivers The DT Open Layers Data Acquisition software wizard appears 6 Click Next You are then prompted to provide the destination location 7 Change the directory path and or name using Browse or accept the default directory then click Next 8 You are prompted to select the software components to install 9 Select DT300 Series then click Next 10 You are prompted for the program folder name 11 Change the program folder name or accept the default program folder name then click Next 12 The files are copied to the destination directory 13 Click Finish Th
3. aterial from the board It is recommended that you save the original packing material in the unlikely event that your board requires servicing in the future 3 Hold the board by its edges and do not touch any of the components on the board 4 Position the board so that the cable connectors are facing the rear of the computer as shown os Rear of Computer DT300 Series Board PCI Expansion Slot Bus Connector 5 Carefully lower the board into the PCI expansion slot using the card guide to properly align the board in the slot CAUTION DO NOT FORCE THE BOARD INTO PLACE MOVING THE BOARD FROM SIDE TO SIDE DURING INSTALLATION MAY DAMAGE THE BUS CONNECTOR IF YOU ENCOUNTER RESISTANCE WHEN INSERTING THE BOARD REMOVE THE BOARD AND TRY AGAIN 6 When the bottom of the board contacts the bus connector gently press down on the board until it clicks into place 7 Secure the board in place at the rear panel of the system unit using the screw removed from the slot cover 8 Power up the computer If you installed the DT300 Series software as described above the DT300 Series device driver is automatically loaded If you have not installed the software ensure that you do so now Once you have installed the DT300 Series driver from the Data Acquisition OMNI CD installed a DT300 Series board and powered up the host computer the New Hardware Found dialog box appears Perform the following steps to load the device driver in Win

5. dows XP Click Next Click Search for a suitable driver for my device recommended Click Specify a location and click Next Browse to Windows System32 Drivers DT300 Inf then click Open Click Ok Click Next The files are copied Click Finish Open the Control Panel Double click the Open Layers Control Panel icon Select the DT300 Series board to configure then click Advanced By default the prompt Handles Overloaded Bus is checked When you are finished click Close SO SO OO Ge Roo me Finally the DT321 board needs to be set up in Control Panel to be able to communicate with COMPEND software 1 Open the windows Control Panel 2 Launch the Open Layers Control Panel The open layers control panel will be displayed on the screen 3 Left click on the board name to highlight it and click on Edit Name and change the name of the board to DT321 4 Click on Close 5 Close the Windows Control Panel Setting up COMPEND for High Speed Data Acquisition The systems is delivered with a COMPEND Installation CD To install the software perform the following steps 1 Insert the COMPEND CD into your CD ROM drive if the installation software set up program starts automatically proceed to step 5 2 Click Start from the Task Bar then click Run The Run dialog box appears 3 Inthe Command Line edit box enter X install setup EXE where X is the letter of your CD ROM drive proceed to step 8 4 Click O

7. e DT Data Acquisition Software set up program reappears 14 Click Main Menu 15 Click Exit Once the software has been successfully loaded the DT321 board can be fitted inside the computer 1 To set up the computer perform the following steps 2 Turn off the computer 3 Turn off all peripherals printer modem monitor machine and control cabinet connected to the computer 4 Unplug the computer and all peripherals 5 Remove the cover from you computer Refer to your computer s user manual for instructions Once you have set up the computer set up an expansion slot by performing the following steps 1 Select a 32 bit or 64 bit PCI expansion slot PCI slots are shorter than ISA or EISA slots and are usually white or ivory Commonly three PCI slots one of which may be a shared ISA PCI slot are available If an ISA board exists in the shared slot you cannot use the slot for a PCI board If a PCI board exists in the shared slot you cannot use the slot for an ISA board 2 Remove the cover plate from the selected expansion slot Retain the screw that held it in place you will use it later to install the board Once you have set up an expansion slot perform the following steps to insert the DT300 Series board into the computer 1 Discharge any static electricity by holding the wrapped board in one hand while placing your other hand firmly on a metal portion of the computer chassis 2 Carefully remove the antistatic packing m

9. e parameters affecting the High Speed Data Acquisition system are all displayed in the HSD_ADC group The Gain parameter can be set for each individual channel DT321 board provides gains of 1 2 4 and 8 and these can be set in the INI file Effective ranges are as follows GAIN INPUT RANGE 1 10V 2 5V 4 2 5V 8 1 25V For each channel choose the gain that has the smallest effective range for the signal you want to measure For example if the range of your analogue input 2 signal is 1 5 V specify a gain of 4 for the channel 2 by writing GAIN2 4 in the INI file the effective input range for this channel is then 2 5 V which provides the best sampling accuracy for that channel The calibration of each channel can also be modified The raw data collected are displayed automatically in volts in the data file The user must multiply these results for each individual channel by a factor entered in the CALX parameter where X is the number of the input for each channel An offset may also be applied by entering appropriate values in OFFSETX When data is acquired manually from the main COMPEND window the data is stored in a file located in the data directory of COMPENDX The name of the file is set by default to DTHSD This name is set in the parameter DEFAULT FILE in the INI file By default the board is set to accept differential inputs If single ended inputs are required set DIFFERENTIAL FALSE in t
