1. m m a ll GPS Speed Camera Detection System 30 100 MUTE E a arso w C ae Vv SNOOPER USER MANUAL SNOOPER GPS Speed Camera Detection System Introduction Congratulations on purchasing a Snooper Safety Alert System The Snooper Sapphire utilises Global Positioning Satellite GPS technology and has been designed to help you drive safely within the confines of today s speed limits by alerting you quickly and easily to the presence of fixed speed monitoring systems often located at accident black spots The geographical coordinates of all fixed speed monitoring systems and many officially designated accident hotspots have been stored on a database provided by Enigma The database is constantly monitored and updated by the Enigma data collection team ensuring that you are alerted to all fixed soeed safety cameras and every potentially hazardous stretch of road As the Enigma camera database is constantly updated regular downloads to your Sapphire are required The Sapphire connects quickly and easily to your PC so that you can download the database in a matter of minutes internet connection required Please note that a certain level of system hardware and software are required on your PC see the section Software CD later in this manual Once the database has been downloaded your Sapphire compares your position using its GPS antenna with the position of every
2. control downwards CAM TYPE will be selected Push the OK control to the EDIT MODE 10F3 left or the right until the correct camera type is ch ons a SP ARA CAM TYPE GATSO e Push the OK control downwards LIMIT will be np q highlighted Push the OK control to the right or left until the correct speed limit for that location is SNOOPER displayed e Push the OK control downwards SPD TYPE will be highlighted Push the OK control to the left or right to select either MPH or KMH e Once you have made your changes press the OK control The unit will display Setting Confirmed to indicate the changes have been saved Troubleshooting Saving New Coordinates When you attempt to save a new coordinate but the display reads Weak Signal it means that your Snooper Sapphire is not receiving sufficient signal strength to plot the position Please ensure that the Snooper Sapphire flip up GPS antenna has a clear view of the sky the unit is displaying the standby screen and try again When you attempt to save the new coordinate and the display reads Memory Full it means that the memory in your Snooper Sapphire is completely full If you want to store any new coordinates you will have to either delete some or all of the existing coordinates stored in the unit s memory Deleting Stored Coordinates If you would like to delete any of the coordinates you

6. can adjust very easily To get into the Menu of the user options press the OK control on the right hand side of the unit Use the OK control to scroll through the options by pushing the control upwards or downwards and then select your desired menu item by pressing the OK control Please Note If you would like to exit the Menu at any time press either the MEM or the MUTE buttons If you do not press any buttons for a period of five seconds the unit will automatically exit the Menu and return to the Standby display The following menu options are available on your unit Press the OK control once your desired option is displayed 1 Set Alert Range This feature allows you to adjust the distance that your Snooper Sapphire will detect from when approaching a Fixed Speed Safety Camera location You can set your pre alert distance in 50 metre increments from 100m to a maximum of 1000m or alternatively you can select a new feature Auto Range Auto range simply selects the correct alert distance to each camera detected depending on the speed limit of the road the camera is situated on The different alert distances are shown below Detection distances for Fixed Speed Safety Cameras and High Risk Zones Speed Limit Pre Alert 20mph 250m 30mph 300m 40mph 350m 50mph 400m 60mph 700m 7Omph 700m Selecting Your Preferred Detection Distance To adjust the pre alert distance e Press the OK control whe
7. first cold start may take up to 50 minutes to acquire sufficient satellite connection The unit requires time to calibrate and you will find that with subsequent use the time for acquiring satellites will reduce The satellite signal temporarily or permanently drops out This may happen temporarily in areas where there are a significant number of tall buildings or trees or whilst driving through a tunnel The signal should only be lost for a few seconds and quickly reacquired Check that the device has not moved and that the flip up GPS antenna still has a good clear view of the sky above Very occasionally you may experience bad satellite coverage that may lead you to loosing a signal This should last no longer than a few minutes The device does not appear to respond to fixed speed camera systems Have you performed a download recently If not perform a fresh download to ensure that you have all the latest coordinates stored on your device Check your settings to see if you have Smart Mute activated If Smart Mute has been activated the device will only alert you to GPS generated locations if you are travelling above the posted speed limit Back to contents 23 Specification General Power requirements 10 16V DC 320mA Negative Ground Temperature Range 4 to 158 F 20 to 70 C Dimensions Width 106mm Depth 30 mm When flip up GPS antenna is closed Height 54 mm GPS Receiving Method 16 channels parallel
8. for voice alerts e Press the OK control when Voice Alerts is displayed in the menu options e Highlight your desired option ON or OFF by pushing the OK control upwards or downwards e Once you have highlighted your desired setting press the OK control The unit will display Setting Confirmed indicating the setting has been saved SNOOPER Note If voice alerts are turned OFF the unit will alert you to the location of a Fixed Speed Safety camera by a series of beeps The visual display will remain the same Back to contents 16 Voice Alerts 6 User Points It is possible to add and edit your own personal locations on your Snooper Sapphire To add a new location make sure you are stationary and parked in a safe legal manner then press and hold the MEM button for approximately two seconds A screen will be displayed asking if you want to Save User Position Use the OK control to highlight Yes and then press the OK control to confirm To view your saved coordinates e Press the OK control when User Points is displayed in the menu options e Edit is highlighted by default Press the OK control to view or edit your stored coordinates e To scroll through the user points you have stored push the OK control to the right or left To edit the user point e Once you have selected the user point that you wish to edit push the OK

10. in this user manual for more detailed information As the GPS engine and antenna have never been used before the first Cold start could take anywhere from 15 50 minutes to establish a satellite connection Once initialised subsequent start ups will take less time and eventually should take only a matter of minutes Please Note If the unit is not used for some time the initial GPS start up may take longer than when the unit is used regularly 2 Standby Screen There are eleven different screen colour settings for the standby display To change the screen colour e Press the OK control to enter the menu the Set Alert Range menu option will be displayed e Push the OK control upwards until Change Screen Colour is displayed and then press the OK control a e Move the OK control left or right to scroll through the screen colour options When your Change Screen Colour preferred setting is displayed press the OK control again The unit will confirm the new SNOOPER setting has been stored If you would like to exit the Menu at any time press either the MEM or the MUTE button If no buttons are pressed for a period of five seconds the unit will automatically exit the Menu and return to your chosen standby display Back to contents 12 3 Adjusting the Volume The Snooper Sapphire has an adjustable volume for controlling the loudness of the audible alert To in
11. options e Move the OK control left or right to scroll through the colour options When your preferred setting is Change Screen Colour displayed press the OK control again The unit will display Setting Confirmed indicating the new setting SNOOPER has been saved 18 Key Sound When you use the OK control to enter or scroll through the menu options on the Sapphire an audible beep is emitted each time the control is operated This audible beep is turned ON by default To turn the Key Sound ON or OFF e Press the OK control when Key Sound is displayed in the menu options e Highlight your desired option ON or OFF by pushing the OK control upwards or downwards Key Sound e Once you have highlighted your desired setting press the OK control The unit will display Setting Confirmed indicating the new setting has been saved SNOOPER Back to contents 20 Motorcycle Installation The Snooper Sapphire can be installed on to a motorcycle An ear piece is available as an optional extra so that audible alerts can be heard Remember however that the Snooper Sapphire is not waterproof so needs to be mounted within a tank bag or other waterproof holder Always remember that in order for your Snooper Sapphire to work effectively the unit needs to be positioned so that the flip up GPS antenna has an unobstructed view of the sky If you require any further adv
12. 00 and Windows Xp THE SOFTWARE WILL NOT WORK ON WINDOWS 95 98 98SE and Millennium Apple Macintosh is not supported To determine which operating system you have on your computer a Right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Properties from the drop down menu b When the System Properties dialogue box opens the General tab is selected by default Under the heading System the operating system is displayed 5 Have you installed the Sapphire download software onto your PC If you have not installed the software you will not be able to perform a download to your Sapphire Once the software is installed there will be a new icon on your desktop Sapphire Updater Please check to see if you have the latest version of the software by visiting www snooperneo co uk and clicking on the link Download Software 6 Have you connected your PC to the internet The computer needs to be connected to the internet before you can begin to download the database to your Sapphire 7 What version of Internet Explorer Netscape Navigator are you using The software will only operate if you have Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 4 5 or above To check what version of Internet Explorer you have open your browser click on the Help menu and select About Internet Explorer This should now display what version you currently have installed If you have a version older than 4 5 e g 4 0

Setting Confirmed SNOOPER indicating the new setting has been saved Back to contents 18 11 Adjust Brightness You can adjust the brightness of the TFT LCD full colour graphical display to accommodate different driving conditions To adjust the brightness of the display e Press the OK control when the Adjust Brightness is displayed in the menu options e To increase the brightness push to OK control h upwards to decrease the brightness push the aN OK control downwards Adjust Brightness e Press the Ok control to save the new setting SNOOPER The unit will display Setting Confirmed 12 Schools The Snooper Sapphire allows you the option of choosing whether or not you would like to receive advanced warnings of Primary Schools Schools are time sensitive on the Sapphire 08 30 09 30am 12 00 13 00 and 15 30 to 16 30 This feature is switched ON by default However if you wish to turn this alert off at weekends for example you can do this by using this facility Note The unit can only alert you to Primary Schools if you have selected to download UK Schools on the download software The unit will alert to schools at the times specified above every day To turn School alerts ON or OFF e Press the OK control when Schools is displayed in the menu options e Highlight your desired option ON or OFF by pushing the OK control upwards
14. a To change the Logic Mode of your unit please refer to the Logic section on page 18 Back to contents 13 8 Alert Patterns Fixed Speed Safety Cameras As you approach a fixed speed safety camera the unit will begin to emit either a voice alert or your chosen audible alert at your preset alert distance As you approach the fixed speed safety camera the beeping will quicken At the same time the display will indicate the type of location you are approaching the speed limit at that location and will then begin to count down the distance in 50 metre increments to that location The unit will continue to alert you until you have passed the fixed speed safety camera Automute When your device alerts you to a location rather than continually beeping through the alert it simply beeps at your selected volume for five seconds and then automatically mutes the sound to volume level 3 until you have passed or moved out of range of the fixed speed safety camera This allows you to receive a brief audible alert instead of a continuous one Note This function is built into the unit and cannot be switched on or off If you would like to change the alert to a visual alert only press the MUTE button to temporarily turn off the sound If at any time you would like to stop the alert simply press and hold either the MEM or MUTE buttons 9 Road Type CITY In CITY mode the Sapphire will only provide alerts to fixed speed safety cameras t
15. crease the volume push the OK control on the right hand side of the unit upwards e To decrease the volume of the unit push the OK control downwards SS EMME SNOOPER 4 MEM Button If in the unlikely event that you pass a location of a fixed safety camera and your Snooper Sapphire does not provide you with an alert you have the opportunity to store the coordinates of this location manually Simply park safely as close as possible to the fixed safety camera site and press and hold the MEM button for approximately two seconds A screen will be displayed asking if you want to Save User Point Save User Position Use the OK control to highlight Yes and then press the OK control YES to confirm NO When you next pass the fixed safety camera site again your Snooper Sapphire will now alert you to the new location User points can be edited so that the correct alert for that camera location is given As the unit does not know what type of system you are passing until the user point is edited the unit will alert to the coordinate as a high risk zone See User Points on page 17 Your unit can hold up to 99 coordinates in its memory 5 MUTE Button If during an alert you decide that you would like to mute the audible alert but still retain a visual alert simply press the MUTE button The screen will continue to display a visual alert but no audible alert will be produced After you have travel
16. e Installation Instructions Place the Software CD into the CD ROM drive Your PC should automatically open a window displaying the instructions for installing the USB and download software To launch the CD manually Click on Start and then Run In the dialogue box that opens click on Browse another dialogue box will open Locate your CD ROM drive drive letter is normally D using the Look in option and select Menu from the lower portion of the dialogue box Once you have selected Menu click on Open on the explorer box and then OK on the Run dialogue box Follow the instructions carefully installing the USB driver first and then installing the Sapphire download software Any later software updates that are released can be obtained from www snooperneo co uk Once the software is installed you are ready to download the database to your Sapphire An icon for the Sapphire Updater will now appear on your desktop Double left click this icon to open the program and follow the onscreen instructions Back to contents 7 Downloading Performing a download is simple md Switch on your PC Connect the computer to the Internet Sapphi Double left click the Sapphire Updater icon fee to open the program Sh O N Left click Menu and then Download Settings and select the database files you require Once selected click OK O1 Switch on the Sapphire by pressing and holding the Standby Powe

18. er adaptor into your vehicles cigarette lighter socket Press and hold the standby power button on the left hand side of the units fascia for two seconds to switch on the device Plug the cigarette lighter adaptor into your vehicles cigarette lighter socket Plug the smaller end into the 12V DC input socket Please Note Do not leave your Sapphire plugged into the cigarette lighter socket when you start your vehicle The cigarette lighter socket is prone to power surges as the vehicle is started and this may cause damage to your unit If the device does not power up please check that the cigarette lighter socket is clean of any debris remembering not to insert metal objects into the socket Check that the cigarette lighter adaptor is inserted all the way into the socket and check that the fuse in the cigarette lighter adaptor is operational If your Sapphire will still not power up please check that the cigarette lighter in your vehicle is functioning correctly Replacing the Fuse If the Sapphire does not switch on or the battery does not charge the fuse in the cigarette lighter plug may have blown To ascertain if the fuse has blown follow the steps below and if necessary replace it with a 2 amp 5 x 20mm fast acting fuse Caution Using a fuse that does not meet these ratings or defeating fuse protection can damage your unit the power cable or the vehicles electrical system 1 Grasp the ring near the tip of the cigarette light
19. er plug and then carefully unscrew the ring by turning it counter clockwise Caution If you must use pliers to loosen the ring be careful not to crush the tip Never use pliers or other tools to retighten the ring on the cigarette lighter plug 2 Pull the ring straight out then remove the metal tip and old fuse 3 Check the fuse to see if it has blown If it has replace it 4 Replace the metal tip inside the ring then place the fuse inside the cigarette lighter plug and screw the ring back onto the plug Make sure the metal tip is visible when you reassemble the cigarette lighter plug Back to contents 11 Charging the internal battery The Sapphire can be charged using either the cigarette lighter adaptor in your vehicle or via the USB cable through your PC If the unit is turned on the battery charge icon will be animated Once fully charged the battery will last approximately 3 hrs during normal use Note The new battery s full performance is only achieved after two or three complete charges and discharges Direct connecting hard wiring your Sapphire You can power your Sapphire by wiring it directly to your vehicles 12V electrical system using the Hard Wire cable which is supplied as standard with your unit First connect the positive side of the cable marked with a red plus symbol to a 12V switched live This is a live that is ON when the ignition is ON and OFF when the ignition is OFF The negative side o
20. ew setting The unit will display Setting Confirmed SNOOPER 4 Speed Limit Alert This safety feature has been designed to let you program your Snooper Sapphire to alert you when you reach any speed you choose For instance you could set your unit to alert you when your speed reaches 30mph so that you never accidentally stray over the speed limit To set the speed limit alert e Press the OK control when Speed Limit Alert is displayed in the menu options e Highlight ON by pushing the OK control upwards and then press the OK control e Push the OK control upwards to increase the speed limit or downwards to decrease the oo Speed Limit Alert speed limit e Once your desired setting is displayed press SNOOPER the OK control to save the new setting The unit will display Setting Confirmed Note The speed limit alert will only activate once you exceed your speed limit setting If you remain above your speed limit you will not receive another alert until your speed drops below your speed limit setting and you then increase your speed again 5 Voice Alerts The Snooper Sapphire has a selectable voice alert which is switched ON by default This facility allows your unit to inform you to exactly what type of location you are approaching without you having to take your eyes from the road The unit also indicates the posted speed limit for that location To alter the settings
21. f the lead should be connected to a negative ground so it can be attached to any metal portion of the vehicles frame Next plug the small adaptor on the other end of the lead into the 12V DC input socket on the left side of the unit Important If you are unfamiliar with this procedure please consult a professional auto electrician Operating Instructions 1 Using the Sapphire for the first time After you have performed a download and installed your Sapphire into your vehicle it is time to perform the first start up First make sure your vehicle is parked in as open a space as possible clear of tall trees and buildings so that the flip up GPS antenna has as clear a view of the sky above Next switch the unit on by pressing the Standby Power button for two seconds The LCD graphical display will briefly display the Snooper logo Logic see Section 7 Mway City or All see Section 9 and finally Searching for Satellites will flash on the screen as the unit begins to search for satellite connection The Sapphire needs to acquire a minimum of four satellites in order to work Once this has been achieved the Sapphire will proceed to the Standby screen of your choice See Standby Screen below As soon as the standby screen is displayed your Sapphire is ready to use and will now automatically alert you of any locations stored in its database A variety of audible and visual alert patterns are available See Features and Settings later
22. hat are located on A or B classified roads and are in range of your unit MOTORWAY In Motorway mode displayed as M way the Sapphire will only provide alerts for fixed speed safety cameras located on a motorway road and are within range of your device Note If your speed drops below 20mph the device will sound an audible alert and the Select Road Type screen will be displayed to remind you that you may no longer be travelling on a motorway and may need to change the mode of the unit to CITY or ALL Select Road Type SNOOPER ALL In ALL mode the Sapphire will provide alerts on all road types of any fixed speed safety cameras that are within range of the unit Note If you were travelling on a section of motorway for example it would mean that the unit could detect locations situated on an A or B road that is near to the motorway As it is not on the road you are travelling though it is not a threat and you might prefer to select the M way setting so that the unit would ignore these unwanted alerts PLEASE NOTE Whilst in CITY mode the device will not detect any locations located on a motorway When the unit is in MWAY mode the unit will not detect any locations located on A or B roads so you need to remember to change modes when leaving an M type road Back to contents 14 Features and Settings Your Snooper Sapphire has many different features and settings that you
23. ice please visit our website www snooperuk com Back to contents 21 Troubleshooting Sapphire Downloads If you are having difficulty performing a download to your Snooper Sapphire it is worth going through the following checklist first before contacting us If you are still unable to perform a download after following this checklist then please visit our website www snooperneo co uk This guide is in two sections the first section is a list of things to check before performing a download and the second section consists of possible reasons and solutions to error messages encountered while trying to perform a download SECTION ONE 1 Have you registered your Sapphire You will not be able to download the database unless the Sapphire is registered To register your unit visit www snooperneo co uk 2 Is the USB PC connection lead supplied with the Sapphire connected correctly Please check that the USB lead is plugged into the USB socket on the Sapphire and is fully plugged in as far as possible Check the computer connection is secure 3 Have you installed the driver for the USB connection lead correctly This lead requires a driver to be installed onto your PC The driver software is on the software disc provided and requires installing before the Sapphire Updater software is installed 4 What operating system are you using on your computer The Snooper download software will only work on the following Windows operating systems Windows 20
24. ired to be adjusted manually The device is supplied with a factory default setting of GMT 0 To adjust the time from Greenwich Mean Time to British Summer Time e Press the OK control when Set Time is displayed in the menu options GMT 0 is displayed e Push the OK control upwards once until GMT 1 is displayed then press the OK control The unit T 7 will display Setting Confirmed indicating the new NT i setting has been saved A E au i Set Time To adjust the time from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time SNOOPER e Press the OK control when Set Time is displayed in the menu options GMT 1 is displayed e Push the OK control downwards once until GMT 0 is displayed then press the OK control The unit will display Setting Confirmed indicating the new setting has been saved 10 Logic There are three Logic modes that you can select on your Snooper Sapphire These different Logic settings determine how the Sapphire alerts you to fixed speed safety cameras Selecting Your Preferred Logic Mode To change the logic mode e Press the OK control when Logic is displayed in the menu options e Push the OK control upwards or downwards to scroll through the Logic options e Once you have highlighted your preferred logic mode press the OK control to confirm the new setting The unit will display
25. irewall the download process will fail If no message was prompted by the firewall software uninstall and then re install the software and perform a download again Warning We do not recommend disabling your firewall software in order to perform a download to your Snooper Sapphire nor can we advise how to alter the settings on third party software nor can we be held responsible for any action taken by the computer user that makes the computer more vulnerable to viruses and computer hackers Any changes made to the computer firewall settings are at the user s discretion We would recommend contacting the third party software manufacturer for information of how to configure the firewall software Further Troubleshooting The unit cannot be switched on Check that the cigarette lighter adaptor is well inserted into the cigarette lighter socket and that the cigarette lighter socket is functioning properly Check that the lighter socket is clean and free from debris Also check that the fuse of the cigarette lighter adaptor is intact If you are using the hardwire connection check that you have secured a good earth and that you have taken the 12v feed from a 12v supply that is live on ignition Also check that the in line fuse is intact The unit cannot acquire satellite connection Check that the Sapphire s flip up GPS antenna has a clear view of the sky above If this is the first time you have powered up your Sapphire please remember that the
26. led out of range of that location the unit will automatically reset so that the next time you encounter a fixed speed camera location you will receive both an audible and a visual alert as normal SNOOPER 6 Cancelling an Alert If during an alert you decide that you would like to cancel it simply press and hold either the MEM or MUTE buttons The display will confirm that the alert has been cancelled and will return to the standby screen 7 Logic Modes There are three Logic modes that you can select on your Snooper Sapphire These different Logic settings determine how the Sapphire alerts you to fixed speed safety cameras Logic 1 When in Logic 1 your unit will alert you both audibly and visually to fixed safety cameras on both sides of the carriageway as you approach them Logic 2 Factory Default Setting When Logic 2 is selected your unit will alert you both audibly and visually as you approach fixed safety cam eras on your side of the carriageway only Logic 3 When Logic 3 is selected your unit will alert you to fixed safety cameras on both sides of the carriageway but will alert you audibly in different tones depending on your user settings If for example you select the Hard tone for alerting you to fixed safety cameras then you will be alerted to a camera on your side of the road in a Hard tone but if the camera is on the opposite side of the road the audible alert provided will be in the Soft tone and vice vers
27. n Set Alert Range is displayed in the menu options e There are two options Auto and User Auto range is activated by default so if you wish to select your own pre alert distance highlight the User option using the OK control and then press the OK control e To increase the pre alert distance push the OK Set Alert Range control upwards To decrease the distance push the OK control downwards Once you have selected your preferred distance press the OK control The unit will display Setting Confirmed SNOOPER 2 Set Volume You can set the volume level of your unit by selecting this option To change the volume setting e Press the OK control when Set Volume is displayed in the menu options o Y e To increase the volume push the OK control upwards to decrease the volume push the OK Set Volume control downwards e Press the OK control to save the new setting SNOOPER The unit will display Setting Confirmed Back to contents 3 Set Alert Tone There are three audible settings to choose from e Hard Tone e Soft Tone e Of To select your alert tone e Press the OK control when Set Alert Tone is displayed in the menu option e Highlight your desired option by pushing the OK control upwards or downwards Set Alert Tone e Once your desired setting is highlighted press the OK control to save the n
28. o select the language of the menu options and voice alerts on the unit Currently the only Language available is English 8 Smart Mute The Smart Mute setting provides an alternative alert when approaching a Fixed Speed Safety Camera If you are travelling below the posted speed limit the unit will provide a brief audible alert two beeps but then the rest of the alert is visual only As the unit counts down the distance to the Fixed Speed Safety Camera the alert is visual only If you are travelling above the posted speed limit however you will receive both an audible and a visual alert as normal Once you drop below the posted speed limit for that Fixed Speed Safety Camera the audible alert will cease and the unit will only provide a visual alert To adjust the Smart Mute setting e Press the OK control when Smart Mute is displayed in the menu options e Highlight your desired option ON or OFF by pushing the OK control upwards or downwards e Once you have highlighted your desired setting Smart Mute press the OK control The unit will display Setting Confirmed indicating the new setting has SNOOPER been saved 9 Set Time The Snooper Sapphire displays the time on the Standby Screen This reading is updated by the GPS Atomic Clock and is generated directly from Greenwich Mean Time GMT and is completely accurate However it does not automatically adjust for British Summer Time BST and is requ
29. o the bracket ensuring that the GPS antenna is raised and the recess on the plate is at the top e To remove the Sapphire from the windscreen bracket simply slide the unit upwards off the plate Slide the Sapphire onto the bracket Push the lever towards the windscreen to secure in place e The unit can be powered directly from its internal battery if it s charged or powered from the cigarette lighter socket To use the cigarette lighter socket plug the smaller plug on one end of the power cable into the socket marked 12V DC on the left side of the Sapphire and plug the larger plug into the cigarette lighter socket of your vehicle Your Sapphire is now ready for use Please note that no power cable other than the one provided with the Sapphire should be used The Sapphire operates on 12V DC and the power cable included is specifically designed to provide this voltage and to charge the internal battery Using an alternative power cable will damage the unit and void the warranty Back to contents 10 Power Connection amp Charging Powering and charging your Sapphire from the cigarette lighter socket The Sapphire comes with a power cable designed to plug into your vehicles cigarette lighter socket This lead will power the device but will also charge the Sapphire s internal battery Firstly take the lead and plug the smaller end into the 12V DC input socket on the bottom left hand side of the Sapphire and plug the cigarette light
30. open your browser click on Tools and select Windows Update This will take you to the Microsoft website where you can download the latest version of internet explorer To check what version of Netscape Navigator you have open the browser click on the Help menu and select About Netscape Navigator Back to contents 22 SECTION TWO If after going through section one you are still experiencing difficulty or have received an error message please read through the following ERROR MESSAGE 2147220504 There was an error downloading the data If you get an error message similar to the above this normally means there is something blocking communication between the software most typically a firewall and our server Windows XP is supplied with an Internet Connection Firewall Depending on which Service Pack you have for this operating system you will need to access the firewall settings and allow access for the software We recommend updating to Service Pack 2 as this will allow easier configuration If you have a Firewall on your computer the software may appear to hang and your Firewall software will inform you that the Snooper Updater software is trying to access the internet Please make sure that you grant allow permit access through the Firewall Please read the messages supplied by your Firewall software carefully before choosing your option If you do not allow the program to access the internet through the F

32. r passengers should your vehicle suddenly come to a stop or be involved in an accident DO NOT leave the unit in view when the car is unattended during hot conditions Exposing the Sapphire to extremely high temperatures can temporarily impair performance Keep the Sapphire out of sight when not in use to help avoid potential theft Back to contents 9 Installing your Sapphire using the Windscreen Suction Cup bracket You can mount your Sapphire to the inside of your vehicles windscreen using the suction cup windscreen bracket provided Simply select a position within the windscreen so that the top of the unit has a clear view of the sky remembering that you may need to connect the power connection cable as well as ensuring that you can read the TFT LCD display and reach the controls safely Follow these instructions to mount the unit in this way e Clean the area where you wish to position the bracket thoroughly with a good quality glass cleaner e Adjust the angle of the bracket so that when the unit is attached to it you can view the display and operate the controls safely Do not adjust the angle of the bracket when the Sapphire is attached e Press the suction cup against the windscreen and push the lever towards the windscreen to secure in place To make a more secure adhesion pull the lever towards you whilst still pressing the suction cup against the windscreen and push back towards the windscreen a second time e Slide the Sapphire ont
33. r switch for two seconds 6 Connect the USB lead to your computer and plug the other end of the lead into your Sapphire in the socket marked USB 7 The software will start the download process automatically The download process is as follows e The software will display the serial number of your Sapphire and a green progress bar will start to progress across the screen The software will then connect to the database server and then download the database The Sapphire will then save the data received Once the download is complete the Sapphire software will instruct you to disconnect the unit from the PC Kk If you have a Firewall on your computer the Firewall software will inform you that the Sapphire Updater software is trying to access the internet Please make sure that you grant allow permit unblock access through the Firewall If you do not allow the program to access the internet through the Firewall the download process will fail Please note Windows XP SP2 comes with a built in firewall as standard As the Enigma database is constantly updated and maintained you will need to perform regular downloads The frequency with which you do this is entirely up to you but we recommend that higher mileage drivers often driving on unfamiliar roads download once or twice a week whereas lower mileage drivers perform a download once or twice per month Please Note You MUST register the unit first before you can perform a do

37. wnload Back to contents 8 Installing the Sapphire The Sapphire comes with a windscreen suction cup bracket so that the unit can be mounted onto your vehicles windscreen When installing your Sapphire please ensure that e The unit with the GPS antenna raised has a clear view of the sky e It is located in a position where you can easily view the full colour LCD display without having to take your eyes too far from the road ahead and that you can reach the controls safely e Does not interfere with the vehicles controls e Does not jeopardise the drivers or passengers safety e You will be able to remove the device to perform downloads Please Note Some vehicles may come with a Heat Reflective Metal Oxide Athermic or Comfort windscreen which may affect the performance of the built in GPS antenna If you are unsure what type of windscreen is fitted to your vehicle then contact your local vehicle dealer or manufacturer for further information In these situations you will need to purchase an extension GPS antenna which can be positioned either on the rear parcel shelf or outside the cabin of the vehicle Call 0870 787 0700 and select Option 2 for further details When adjusting the angle of the windscreen bracket please remove the Sapphire from the bracket FIRST before adjusting PLEASE NOTE Be careful to choose a location that does not obscure the drivers view or where it might endanger the driver o
