Printing a parameter list showing the AXIS 540 640 current se tings e Resetting the AXIS 540 640 parameters to the factory default Settings the parallel interface is functioning correctly T he printed T est Page contains basic information about the AXIS 540 640 It is recommended that you print a test page every time you have connected the AXIS 540 640 to a printer The Parameter List Press the test button twice to print a parameter list showing the current AXIS 540 640 settings T his list provides comprehensive details of all the parameters and their current status Refer to B TheParamee Lig on page 150 If you want to change any of the parameters use one of the methods that are described in Section 9 Managenent amp Configuration on page 108 3 The Test Page Press the test button once to print a test page If the test page prints AX IS 540 640 User s Manual Appendix A Test Button Factory D efault Settings Note Follow theinstructions below to reset the AXIS 540 640 to the factory default settings 1 Remove the external power supply to switch off the AXIS 540 640 Press and hold down the test button while you plug the external power supply back in Continue to hold down the test button until the network indicator begins to flash at one second intervals T his should take at least 5 seconds Release the test button and wait until the network indicator flashes at least five times

The AXIS MIB In order to make full use of the AXIS 540 640 SN M P support you are required to use N M S software that allows you to install private enterprise M IBs likethe AXIS MIB The AXIS MIB contains a large number of objects which may be categorized as follows e Menu objects used for viewing and changing the AXIS 540 640 configuration from the N M S program Refer to B T he Parameter List on page 150 e Printer status and unit administration objects used for monitoring AXIS 540 640 print jobs and storing parameter changes permanently e Trap objects used for alarms at various error conditions For technical details you can view the M IB file axismib with any text editor TheAXIS MIB is resident on the AXIS 540 640 and can be downloaded directly from the print server to your N M S software using FTP Follow these steps to add the AXIS M IB to your N M S software 1 Login to the AXIS 540 640 using FTP 2 Download the M IB file snmp axismib to the N M S host 3 Install the AXIS M IB according to instructionsin your N MS software documentation 134 Section 9 Management amp Configuration AXIS 540 640 User s Manual Using HP Administration Tools TheAXIS 540 640 is fully compatible with the H P JetAdmin and the HP Web J etAdmin printer management software You can use either tool to install and configure your printer devices and to monitor the current status of your AXIS 540 640 and the

AXIS 540 640 User s Manual Section 3 Basic Installation Print Q ueues Test Page TheAX1S 540 640 uses the print server name followed by the printer port as the default Print Q ueue name and print server port name If you want to change the default printer queue names just type the new names in the available text fields Environment Default Names NetWare AXIS1A0003_LPT1_Q Windows amp OS 2 AX1A0003 LP1 AppleTalk AXIS1A0003_LPT1 Default Print Queue N ames and Print Server Port N ames for each of the operating environments The final user prompt in the Installation W izard allows you to print a test page through N etW are T he test page displays the name of all the N etW are servers the AXIS 540 640 is connected to and shows the status of each connection Unless you want to connect or create additional printing queues the installation for the N etW are environment is now completed 30 Section 3 Basic Installation AXIS 540 640 User s Manual Notes Theparameters entered during installation are not permanent they can be altered at any time according to your network printing requirements 1 No serious or permanent damage will be caused if you make a mistake during installation If you find at any time that printing isnot satisfactory the parameters can easily be changed to tune the system to your requirements D For information on advanced functions please refer to the AXIS N etwork Print Server T e
