Other messages appear when the printer needs the operator s attention as explained in Chapter 5 2 1 Control Panel wearace Interface Indicator q ee The interface indicator shows which of the printer s interfaces is currently active It uses the following abbreviations PAR Standard bi directional parallel interface SER Serial interface RS 232C RS 422A OPT1 Optional interface 1 OPT2 Optional interface 2 The PAR SER OPT1 or OPT2 indicator flashes when the printer is receiving and has received all the data and then remains on The printer gives priority to data coming in over the interface corresponding to the blinking indicator ES Resolution Indicator Ny This shows the current printing resolution The default is 600 dpi dots per inch in the HP LaserJet 5M and KPDL emulation mode and 300 dpi in other emulation modes The printer s resolution can be selected using the printer s control panel See the last page in this manual SIZE COPIES D Chapter 2 Operating the Laser Printer Paper Size Indicator Copy Indicator The paper size indicator indicates the paper size of the cassette currently installed in the printer or the paper size currently set for the multi purpose tray The following abbreviations are used to indicate the paper sizes m3 nd x z JIS B6 12 8 cm X 18 2 cm Commercial 6 3 4 3 5 8 X 6 1 2 inches LT Commercial 9 3 7 8 X 8 7 8 inches LD Le so with only the MP tra
12. 2 8 Dumping Received Data 2 8 Dumping Received Data It is possible to print data received by the printer as hexadecimal code for the purposes of debugging programs and files Selecting Dump Received Data Mode Pressing the MODE key will put the printer in Mode Select mode Press or to select Others gt Press the P gt key RR GQ N Press the key several times to display gt rint HEX DUMP and press the ENTER key A will be displayed 5 Press the ENTER key again and gt Processing will be displayed for awhile followed by Waiting 6 Send the data to be dumped to the printer The printer will display Processing while it receives the data 7 Once all data has been received the message Waiting will appear Press the FORM FEED key to finish printing Once the dumped data you require has been output it is possible to cancel the printing of any further dumped data by taking the printer offline by pressing the ON LINE key and then press ing the CANCEL key 2 30 Chapter 2 Operating the Laser Printer 2 9 KIR Level This printer incorporates the KIR Kyocera Image Refinement smoothing function KIR provides high quality printing by providing a software type improvement to the resolution Print a status page to find out the current printing mode A The KIR setting is On Default setting The KIR setting is Off Notes Set the print density to 03 when setting the KIR mode For

136. t it is important to store the paper in a controlled environment Some tips on moisture control are Store paper in a dry well ventilated location Keep the paper flat and in its wrapping as long as possible Rewrap paper that is not in use Store paper in its original carton Place a pallet etc under the carton to separate it from the floor Avoid leaving paper where it is exposed to heat sunlight or damp B 2 Selecting the Right Paper Stiffness Paper that is too limp or too stiff may fold or bend inside the printer resulting in a paper jam Curl Most paper has a natural tendency to curl in one direction or the other if it is stored unwrapped Paper will curl slightly upward when it passes through the fuser unit Load the paper with its natural curl downward so that it will come out flat Electrostatic properties During the printing process the paper is electrostatically charged to attract the toner The paper must be able to release this charge so that printed sheets do not cling together in the output tray Quality control Uneven sheet size corners that are not square ragged edges welded uncut sheets and crushed edges and corners can cause the printer to malfunction in various ways Pay particular attention to these considerations if you are choosing paper yourself Packaging Select paper that is wrapped by the ream and then placed in a box The best wrapping is one whose inner surface is coated to protec
