RS 422 The built in RS 422 interface allows the DI 1000TC unit to connect to any host PC through an inexpensive adapter via an RS 232 or USB port Both of these adapters are available through DATAQ Instruments There are two identical RS 422 ports One is to be used to connect to your PC and the other is available for daisy chaining expansion units GROUND Connect this ground lug to a solid earth ground to ensure compliance with CE standards STATUS LAMPS DI 1000TC Series instruments provide two status lamps ACTIVE This indicator will glow red whenever the instrument is scanning data POWER This indicator glows green when power is applied to the DI 1000TC Series instrument POWER INPUT JACK Allows you to apply power to the instrument There are two identical jacks one is to be used to supply power and the other is available for daisy chaining Power can be applied with the included power adapter or you can use an alternate source as long as it is suitable 9 to 36VDC 3A maximum Power connec tors are available through DATAQ Instruments if you would like to provide your own power source Installing the Software The software required to display and record data from the DI 1000TC can be easily installed directly from the WINDAQ Resource CD Choose the installation instructions based on the adapter purchased DI 1000 232 F Installation You MUST purchase an adapter in order to connect your DI 1000TC to your computer The DI 1

4. an eight channel device you can select channels 1 8 Channels 1 through 6 are selected in the graphic below Channel Selection 3 2 xj Addr Chn z a 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 Click or press Space to select check or deselect OK Cancel If you have more than one device you will be able to select more channels The second device s channels would be selected across from the 2 in the Addr column on the right ofthe window These channels are labeled 9 16 and they correspond with 1 8 on your device For example if you wanted to select channels 1 4 and 7 8 on your second device you would place a checkmark in the 9 12 and 15 16 boxes When you are looking at data in the WINDAQ software the channels will be identified by the numbers designated in this window For example the third channel on your second device will be identified as Channel 11 Any more than two devices will follow the same pattern odd device addresses will have channels between 1 and 8 and even device addresses will have channels between 9 and 16 although they will have a letter appended to the channel number For example device 3 channels will be labeled 1A 2A 3A etc while device 10 channels will be labeled 9D 10D 11D etc Once you have selected the channels you would like to record click OK WinDaq Software 17 DI 1000TC User Manual User Annotation Edit gt User Annotation This allows you to annotate each channel to make them easily recogniz
5. from your WinDaq Program Group to change it You should now see the Done dialog box Installation is complete To exit the installation program click OK Getting Started 9 DI 1000TC User Manual Installing Multiple Devices in a Daisy Chain Up to 8 DI 1000TC instruments 64 channels max may be daisy chained together to form a distributed synchronous network 1 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 Connect the first instrument in the chain to your adapter DI 1000 USB or DI 1000 232 and install it using the appropriate installation instructions This is the Master instrument Run the DI 1000 Configuration Software found in the Windows Program Group specified during installation The default is Start gt Programs gt WinDaq gt DI 1000 Config Click on Configure gt Setup in the DI 1000 Config menu Enter 1 in the text boxes for Address Previous Device and Master If you are daisy chaining one to four units select a Baud Rate of 9600 default for 1 30 channels or 19200 for more than 30 channels If you are daisy chaining five to eight units select a Baud Rate of 19200 Click on Write to configure the instrument Disconnect the Master instrument from the adapter Connect and power the next instrument in the chain Enter 2 for Address Enter 1 for Previous Device and Master This device is Slave 1 Enter the same Baud Rate entered in Step 5 For more information on USB ID

The default address for all devices is 1 This is the address for the master device You can leave it at this address if you are only running one device If you take a networked group of instruments and wish to run them all separately you must change their addresses to 1 the Master address If you then wish to re create the network or create a new network you will need to change the addresses for all devices except the master This is done in the Setup window of the Configuration Software Each device beyond the master should be numbered sequentially 2 3 4 etc Each device must be connected individually to set up its address In the Setup window you will have to enter the desired address for the device you are configuring the address of the master and the address of the previous device on the chain See the diagram below for an example Address 3 Address 4 Previous 2 Previous 3 Address 1 Address 2 Previous 1 Previous 1 Master 1 Master 1 Master 1 Master 1 Master Slave 1 Slave 2 Slave 3 The use of master and previous addresses for each DI 1000 module allows the modules to synchronize their acquired readings Essentially the master paces the data acquisition scan rate and each slave follows suit A typical sequence 1s as follows Module Configuration Software 13 DI 1000TC User Manual 4 The master determines that it s time to report a sample based upon its internal clock and the data acquisition rate tha

12. e USB button Make sure all DATAQ Instruments USB devices are disconnected Click OK to continue Connect the DI 1000 USB adapter to your computer s USB Port using the supplied cable Connect the DI 1000TC to the DI 1000 USB adapter using a patch cable Connect and apply power to the DI 1000TC Wait for Windows to complete driver installation Access the Windows Device Manager and locate the Ports COM amp LPT icon and click the small sign to expand the menu and see all the devices installed Note the COM number that has been assigned to your device and close the Device Manager Specify the COM port number your instrument is connected to steps 15 and 16 above and click OK If you do not enter this correctly you may run WinDaq Lite Data Acq Setup from your WinDaq Program Group to change it When prompted to Select a Program Manager Group specify a destination or group window in the Start Menu for WinDaq software icons It is recommended that you accept the default In the Installation Option dialog box specify whether you want all users to have access to WinDaq software or just the current User Click Yes to allow all users to have access click No to allow just the current user to have access Select the Baud Rate You should not need to change the Baud Rate all DI 1000TC modules come pre config ured from the factory If you do not enter this correctly you may run WinDaq Lite Data Acq Setup

15. libration using the Configuration Software You should verify your calibration about once a year Module Configuration Software 14 DI 1000TC User Manual 5 WINDAQ Software In general WINDAQ software will operate with the DI 1000TC the same way it operates with other instruments Use the WINDAQ software manual for instructions on operation However there are a few differences that must be noted Sample Rate Edit gt Sample Rate Instead of asking you to specify a sample throughput rate or total scanning rate for waveform recording WINDAQ with DI 1000 instruments allows you to enter sample rate per channel For example if you enter 5 as your sample rate per channel and you have all 8 channels enabled your current sample rate samples per sec ond would be 40 samples per channel times the number of channels To specify a sample rate 1 Select the Sample Rate command In the Edit menu click on Sample Rate This displays the sample rate dialog box Sample Rate x Input Buffer Size in KiloBytes 0 Disk Buffer Size in KiloBytes 64 Sample Rate Channel 5 OK Cancel 2 Enter the desired sample rate per second in the Sample Rate dialog box 3 Click OK or press the ENTER key WINDAQ Lite automatically allocates the correct amount of buffer space when you input a sample rate The Input Buffer Size and Disk Buffer Size values are displayed for informational purposes only WinDaq Software 15 DI
