1. UWRC COMPUTER INFORMATION Computing Facilities for Faculty and Students The UWRC Student Computer Lab is housed in the same room as the Library on the fourth floor of the Rome Center It has 7 PCs 6 basic 1 enhanced with large monitor and 4 Macs 3 basic 1 enhanced The Macs are equipped with CD DVD drives while the PCs have floppy zip and CD DVD drives All machines are connected to a high speed network and a file server There are also 2 printers 1 color laser jet 1 black grayscale laser jet as well as 4 scanners large flatbed scanner 2 A 4 size scanners 1 slide scanner There is a fee for printing The student computer lab is open the same hours as the Library generally Monday Friday 8 30 am to 5 pm and some evening and weekend hours All three floors of the Rome Center also have wireless routers allowing faculty and students with laptops to connect to the internet when they are in range There is not complete wireless coverage throughout the Rome Center Students may bring their own laptops and work in the library For students without wireless network cards in their computers the UWRC has several available for check out 50 deposit required Wireless access is also available to faculty in the 3 floor Faculty Room equipped with 2 PCs 1 iMac and 1 laser printer for faculty use only In addition to the equipment that remains in the library the following portable devices are available for check out by stude2. nts for specific program work for student check out faculty approval is required 1 Dell laptop 1 Toshiba tablet PC 2 Apple PowerBook G4 laptops 1 Canon MiniDV video camera 1 Canon digital SLR 1 portable video projector Plugging in Your Computer e Power Transformers or Power Adapters or Converters These will change the electrical current from 110V U S to 220V Italian These may be ordered from appliance stores or from Radio Shack for approximately 50 but are not easy to find in Italy Plug Adapters These just allow you to insert an American flat prong plug into the Italian round prong outlet You should be able to find them in travel and luggage stores in the U S for approximately 3 e If you need to plug in a computer figure out what you will need before you leave Most laptop computers don t require transformers since the computer power supply can detect and adjust to the current typically noted as Input AC 100 240 V Please check yours carefully before coming to Rome Computer Repair The UWRC office can provide names and addresses of computer repair shops in Rome New system software if required may be available in Italian only We suggest bringing backup copies of your system software with you as well as a copy of your original warranty Internet Email Access for Students Since the Computer Lab is intended primarily for academic use students should not count on unlimited access for personal email or
