8. CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL Keeping the motorbike level and in a vertical position check the oil level through the inspection 1 window on the right crankcase Make sure the level is in between the MIN and MAX notches To fill up remove the filler cap 2 Note Have this operation made with warmed up engine WARNING Be careful not to touch hot en gine oil ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT AND BAG FILTERS FILTER CARTRIDGE CLEANING OR REPLACEMENT WARNING Be careful not to touch hot en gine oil Drain the oil with WARM ENGINE proceed as follows remove oil filler cap 2 remove the engine lower guard place an oil drain pan under the engine block TE 250 e Remove the oil drain cap 3 the mesh filter 4 and drain the old oil TE 310 e loosen tie without disconnecting tube 3b e unscrew hose tail 3c remove mesh filter 4 and drain the used oil e lean the mesh filter with benzine e in order to replace the filter cartridge 5 unscrew the three fastening screws then the filter cartridge cover 6 Once the oil filters have been cleaned replaced fit the parts back in in the opposite sequence to the disassembly and pour in the prescribed amount of oil as listed in the LUBRICATION TABLE SPECIFICATIONS OPERATION MAINTENANCE EN 2 EBENE COOLA

ENANCE SPARK PLUG CHECK The correct type of spark plug and electrode gap is indicated in the Technical data section A wider gap may cause difficulties in starting the engine and overload the coil A narrower gap may cause difficulties when accelerating or idling or poor performance at low speed Remove the connector 1 from the coil 2 Loosen the two screws 3 remove coil 2 and retaining bracket 4 and then remove the spark plug NOTE during refitting check that the gasket 5 is correctly positioned the reference lug 6 must correspond with the retaining bracket 4 gap 7 It is very useful to examine the state of the spark plug just after it has been removed from the engine since the deposits on the plug and the colour of the insulator provide useful indications 0 8 0 9 mm 0 031 0 035 in Correct heat rating The tip of the insulator should be dry and the colour should be light brown or grey High heat rating In this case the insulator tip is dry and covered with dark de posits Low heat rating In this case the spark plug is overheated and insulator tip is vitreous white or grey in colour CAUTION If necessary replace the spark plug with one of the same type and heat rating see the technical data section Apply little graphite grease to the spark pes thread fit and screw the spark plug by and then tighten to the torque of 10 12 Nm 7
