Click on FCP to bring it to the foreground and wait for an audible beep or just wait for longer than 10 seconds Go back to the Mapper and in the Target Software it should now say Final Cut Pro Tangent Mapper FCP Default Controls z Mapping Settings for FCP Settings for the default controls Standard Global Sensitivities Alternate Global Sensitivities Knob medium coarse fine medium Trackerball X amp Y Trackerball X amp Y p fine l medium l coarse fine l medium Trackerball Dial Ring Trackerball Dial Ring fine medium coarse fine medium Jog Dial Jog Dial F fine i medium l coarse fine l medium General Settings vi Independent Panel Banks each panel steps through its own bank set Target Software Final Cut Pro Select From Desktop This setting should be the name of the executable of the target software Auto select will activate this control mapping when the target software has desktop focus Standard Make sure Auto select Application is ticked The last thing to do and check is to make sure the Auto select Application is ticked in the Mapper gt Applications menu But before finishing there are two important things to note Note on names In the Mapper gt Applications menu Keypress Applications gt Set Up Applications window if you type in a name similar to your application name the Mapper will try and make a guess at finding it for it2. sgmacosx or Resolve Go to the Mapper Applications menu and make sure Auto select Application is ticked Known issue with Resolve where panels don t initially follow which app is in the foreground You may need to switch from your keypress app to Resolve and back again when you first run Resolve for the auto switching to work After that the panels will follow whichever app you have in the foreground

Adding a keypress app in the Mapper quick guide In this example we re going to make a map for Final Cut Pro FCP but the same principle will work for any application that does not support the Element panels When you have multiple applications running the panels will automatically switch between applications This is a useful feature but for this to work we need to follow all the steps below so please read ALL of this document More information on the Mapper can be found in the User Manual which should be in the Tangent folder with the Mapper Add an application First we need to add FCP app to the Mapper Run FCP Run the Mapper you will find this in the Tangent folder In the Mapper go to the Applications menu and select Keypress Applications gt Set Up Applications This is will open the Set Up Keypress Applications window Click on the to add an application Call it FCP see Note on names later in this document Tangent Mapper FCP Default Controls Set Up Keypress Applications Set up applications that send keypresses to other software Enabled items will appear in the Keypress Applications menu Application Name Enabled FCP vi Standard Close the Set Up Keypress Applications window In the Mapper go to the Applications menu again and select Keypress Applications gt Start FCP You will now see the Mapper display a blank set of panels ready for you to add mappings to Ma
4. p some keys Now we will map J K and L play reverse stop and play forward to the transport keys on the Mf panel In the Mapper select the Mf panel tab Click on the right arrow button This will open the Control Mapping window In Standard Mapping select the Fake Keypress option In Keypress Settings put in the letter L Tangent Mapper FCP Default Controls Modified Element Mf Button Bank 1 of 1 Trackerball Bank 1 of 1 Control Mapping Play Forward on Element Mf Default Mode Mappings Apply To Current Mode Standard Mapping Alternate Mapping Fake Keypress No Mapping Keypress Settings Argument L None Cmd Shift Option Ctrl Reset Repeat 1 ie Standard Repeat the above for K on the stop button and J on the right arrow button We have now mapped J K and L to the transport buttons on the Mf panel Let s save this map In the Mapper go to the File menu and select Save As Save your mapping as My FCP Associate your map with your application Now we need to associate the map we ve created with FCP app In the Mapper go to the File menu and select Settings This will open the Mapping Setting for FCP window At the bottom where it says Target Software click on Select From Desktop This will open a window telling you to bring the application to the foreground Note you have 10 seconds to do this
5. self You can see if it s succeeded in the Mapper gt File menu Settings window in Target Software Help My SpeedGrade or Resolve no longer works with my panels If SoeedGrade or Resolve no longer works with the panels and you seem to have control of the application you ve just created don t panic All that s happened is that the Mapper is now trying to auto switch between applications for you When you just had only SpeedGrade or Resolve running the Mapper was able to deal with things but now you have two apps running it just needs to be told to select the SoeedGrade or Resolve map instead of your custom map when using SpeedGrade or Resolve To do this is easy Make sure SpeedGrade or Resolve is running Run the Mapper In the Mapper click on the Applications menu and select SpeedGrade or Resolve Auto Select Application will now be un ticked and there will be an arrow next to SpeedGrade or Resolve Now go to the Mapper and in the File menu select Settings This will open the Mapping Setting for Adobe SpeedGrade Resolve window At the bottom where it says Target Software click on Select From Desktop This will open a window telling you to bring the application to the foreground Note you have 10 seconds to do this Click on Resolve or SpeedGrade to bring it to the foreground and wait for an audible beep or just wait for longer than 10 seconds Go back to the Mapper and in the Target Software it should now say
