2. and hold the Gain button for approximately 3 seconds the current version of installed firmware will appear briefly in the display window When your Neo 430HA is equipped with the optional DAC pressing the Display button allows you to alternate the contents of the display window s right side between the volume level and the sampling rate of the digital input signal for the four 4 digital inputs D1 D2 D3 and D4 Note When the volume level is displayed and the digital input signal s sampling rate changes the new sampling rate will appear briefly The volume level will always be displayed on the right side for the three 3 analog inputs A1 A2 B1 The Display button also allows you to turn the digital display on and off If you want to turn the display off press and hold the Display button for 3 seconds When the display is turned off it will still illuminate for a short period of time whenever you press any of the buttons located on the front panel or the remote control the display will automatically turn off again once you are done To turn the display back on simply press and hold the Display button for 3 seconds The Xfeed button engages the Neo 430HA s internal Crossfeed circuit When activated the red LED located to the right of this button will illuminate The Crossfeed circuit is designed to reduce listener fatigue that may result from stereo recordings with extreme channel separati
3. the right will repeatedly flash on and off Note Adjusting the volume level while the Mute function is active will immediately de activate the Mute function The Neo 430HA is Energy Using Product EuP compatible This is a European standard that effectively limits the off and standby power consumption to no more than 0 5W When the EuP function is active the unit will automatically turn off after 20 minutes of inactivity The Mute button allows you to activate and de activate the EuP function as follows press and hold the Mute button for approximately 3 seconds to toggle EuP on default setting or off The display will show EuP or No EuP respectively whenver the EuP setting changes The EuP setting is maintained when the 430HA is both powered down and placed into Standby mode The MP button for Media Player has its input connection located above the headphone jack for easy access t uses a 1 8 mini jack connector which is the most common type of connection found on portable media players When selected the corresponding red LED located to the right of the button will illuminate When the MP input is in use the display window automatically turns off The Display button allows you to turn the digital display on and off The rotary volume control determines the volume level which ranges from 0 0dB no output to 80 0dB full output This control does not function like a typical volume When you
4. until the front panel display briefly shovvs Str If you are using the MiND Music Streamer and an external DAC you need to make a SimLink connection between the MiND s SimLink out and the 430HA s SimLink in You must assign this default setting as follovvs Select the analog input that you vvant as the default for the MiND then press and hold the INPUT gt right button for 3 seconds until the front panel display briefly shows Str When you press the b play button on the MiND App the 430HA will automatically switch to the default Str input If you have previously created a default input for CD ensure that you use a different analog input for the Str default The connection rules for the SimLink are very basic You must alvvays connect the supplied cable betvveen one components SimLink Out jack and another component s SimLink In jack If you inadvertently connect the cable between either two SimLink In or two SimLink Out jacks the SimLink communication feature may not function Also there is no master component in a SimLink chain no one particular component operates as the main communications controller 12 Operating the Neo 430HA We recommend leaving your Neo 430HA powered up at all times to maintain optimal performance VVhen you plan on being avvay for a fevv days it may not be a bad idea to povver off your amplifier Please keep in mind that onc

6. 4 TRS jack The tvvo other headphone outputs are hidden behind the right side of the display vvindovv To expose them simply slide the display vvindovv to the left This is done by placing one of your fingers into the contoured groove located on the far right side of the vvindovv and gently sliding it to the left until it stops moving when the groove is vertically aligned to the blue indicator LED You will now see three 3 female XLR connectors The left and middle sockets are 3 pin XLR connectors intended for use with a pair of dual mono fully balanced headphones equipped with two 3 pin XLR male connectors The right socket is a 4 pin XLR connector intended for use with a pair of fully balanced headphones equipped with one 4 pin male connector When none of these three XLR connectors are in use you should close the display window this is done by placing one of your fingers onto the left side contoured groove and gently sliding it to the right until it stops moving 4 30 HA Neo Series Optional Digital Inputs T The Digital Input option includes four 4 separate inputs D1 uses an optical Toslink connector D2 and D3 use S PDIF on an female RCA connector and D4 uses a type B USB connector The D1 is intended for use with a source eguipped with a TosLink digital output such as a satellite dish receiver or DVD player The D2 and D3 inputs are intended for use with a source equipped with a S PDIF digital outp

8. e fully broken in your 430HA requires several hours of operation before reaching optimal performance after povvering it up again Turning on your Neo 430HA for the first time Prior to turning the amplifier on for the first time make sure that every cable is properly connected to avoid any problems Flick the main rocker svvitch located on the rear panel labeled POVVER to the 1 on position The blue LED on the front panel vvill blink for up to 10 seconds vvhile it achieves standby mode VVhen it stops blinking and is not illuminated your 430HA is in standby mode Next briefly press the push button labeled Standby located on the front panel You will hear a very faint click sound confirming that everything is in order The blue LED on the front panel will illuminate indicating that the 430HA is now powered up and ready for use On and Off Sequence To avoid having any annoying noises ie thumps and pops emanate from your speakers when powering your 430HA on or off you should always power up any source components prior to powering up your 430HA As well always power down your 430HA prior to powering down any source components Owner s M anual 4 Y M MN Remote Control Operation POWER D A Figure 3 CRM 2 Remote Control The Neo 430HA Headphone Amplifier uses the CRM 2 full function remote control figure 3 lt operates on the Philips RC 5 communicati
9. ed with the DAC option you will find 4 digital inputs labeled D1 D2 D3 and D4 The D1 input is on an optical Toslink connector both the D2 and D3 inputs are on a S PDIF connector the D4 input is on a USB type B connector Below the area reserved for the optional digital inputs are a series of input output connectors for custom type installations From left to right there are two 2 SimLink connectors labeled in and out on 1 8 mini jacks Please refer to the next section entitled SimLink for more details Next there s a 1 8 mini jack input for use with aftermarket infrared remote control receivers Then there s a 12V trigger output on a 1 8 mini jack that can power up a connected component with a 12V trigger input at the same time that the 430HA is powered up Next there s a full function bi directional RS 232 port for custom integration or automation on a DB9 connector Finally on the far right side is the main power switch O off 1 on and the IEC receptacle labeled AC Power for the included AC power cord Connect the supplied AC power cable to the IEC receptacle located on the headphone amplifier s rear panel Ensure that the AC wall outlet you use has a functioning ground For the best sonic performance it is preferable that you plug your 430HA directly into a dedicated AC outlet and avoid using an extension cord If you have the time and willingness consider installing a superior quality AC wall

13. indovv Refer to the section entitled Optional Digital Inputs on page 10 for further details The Standby button disengages all internal circuitry from the power supply except for the controller circuit and the IR receiver The blue indicator LED turns off when the N o 430HA is in Standby mode When switching back from Standby to the on mode the blue LED directly above the display window will illuminate and the current input will be memorized from the previous listening session When you press and hold the Standby button for approximately 3 seconds all components connected to the 430HA via SimLink will also switch between Standby mode and on mode Please refer to the section entitled SimLink for further details The 430HA will automatically go into standby mode after approximately 20 minutes of inactivity To disable this feature please refer to the Mute button details on the following page The Gain button allows you to switch between a low gain 14db setting and a high gain 20dB setting The default setting is low gain When you engage this button the corresponding setting wil appear briefly in the display window as either Lo or Hi The high gain setting should be used in situations when i your source component connected to the 430HA has a low output signal ii your headphones have either a low sensitivity or low efficiency rating When you press
14. on This feat is accomplished by i blending a small amount of the music from the left channel into the right channel and ii blending a small amount of the music from the right channel into the left channel Owner s M anual The two 2 buttons labeled 4 INPUT allow you to sequentially scroll either forward gt or backward 4 through all of the available inputs Depending on whether or not the DAC option is installed the order of the inputs is as follows going forward gt Basic Unit A1 A2 and B1 DAC option installed A1 A2 B1 D1 D2 D3 and D4 The above abbreviations correspond to the labeling of the rear panel inputs A1 A2 and B1 are intended for use vvith any type of source component that outputs an analog signal A1 and A2 for single ended sources using RCA connectors B1 for balanced sources using XLR connectors If you have installed the DAC option 01 D2 D3 and DA will appear after B1 The Mute button mutes the output signal to the headphone outputs as well as both the fixed and variable line output connectors refer to the section entitled Rear Panel Connections for further details As well the volume level setting will no longer appear in the display widow Pressing the Mute button a second time will reinstate the volume back to its previous level When the output signal is muted the red LED to

22. rotate the dial either clockwise to raise the volume or counter clockwise to lower the volume you are actually engaging a precision optical encoder which selects very high quality metal film resistors that the audio signal passes through The result is a proprietary volume circuit called M eVOL2 that doesn t degrade the audio signal regardless of the setting unlike all potentiometer based circuits Since this circuitry operates in a fully balanced differential mode no noise is introduced to the audio signal The Neo 430HA Headphone Amplifier provides a range of five hundred and thirty 530 unique volume settings This is achieved as follows Within the 0 0dB to 30 0dB range you can increase and decrease the volume in 1 0dB steps From the 30 0dB to 80 0dB range you can increase and decrease the volume by either 0 1dB or 1 0dB steps By rotating the volume control slowly the level will change by 0 1dB increments A quicker rotation will change the volume in 1 0dB increments Note It is normal to hear a faint clicking sound between each step when adjusting the volume This is the result of the volume circuit being optimized for sound quality There are three 3 different headphone outputs located on the front panel of the Neo 430HA The first is the Phones jack located directly below the MP in jack This is used for connecting a pair of single ended stereo headphones to the 430HA The input connector uses a standard single ended 1
