JAZZ 310 JAZZ 311 JAZZ 310 JAZZ 311 USER S MANUAL Introduction The Dimmer Pack JAZZ 310 and JAZZ 311 have various applications and therefore they are useful tools for many different installations They can be permanently wall mounted or tripod truss mounted On the front panel there are three sliders used to control each channel and a Master There are also twelve chasers preset by the factory Factory Chasers with the capability of controlling the Dimmer Level the speed Rate and the Fade Time Each pack has two 9 pin D sub connectors The first connector IN is connected to the E1115 type ELECTRON control and the second one THROUGH is connected to a similar device On the front panel there is also a selector switch used to select whether the unit will be controlled by channels 1 2 3 or 4 5 6 The dimmers incorporate a digital DMX 512 input and the start address can be selected from the corresponding buttons located on the front panel For safe and correct operation please read the instruction manual very carefully before using the dimmer APPROVED ELECTRON S A Installation The construction of JAZZ 310 and JAZZ 311 gives the advantage to the user to install them easily at any place More specifically on the rear side of the pack there are some accessories which can help us to install the dimmers on the wall on a truss or horizontally as a console so as the user to control easily the built in control of the dimme
5. el selection 238 240 set the start address 238 The display should always indicate the number of the first channel from the three channels selected The led indicator DMX OK on the front panel illuminates the condition of the digital serial connection When the DMX OK led is turned on the signal connection is correct When it is turned OFF there is serial error or bad serial transmission CAUTION The dimmerpack has the capability of retaining the last DMX 512 data in case of failure of serial connection HOLD Function Stand alone operation The dimmer adjustment can be accomplished by the built in controller which includes 3 sliders and a master This gives the capability of a stand alone operation without the necessity of an external control desk The dimmerpacks JAZZ 310 and JAZZ 311 can be controlled by all the above ways simultaneously Chasers The dimmerpack JAZZ 310 and JAZZ 311 are supplied with 12 factory set chasers The user can activate or deactivate a chaser by pressing one button Also the user can select the speed rate the dimmer level and the fade time from the keys on the front panel To activate a chaser e Press the button lt ENTER CHASER gt The screen now shows the indication C 01 that means that the chaser 1 has been activated To select another chaser e Press the button lt DOWN gt to reduce or the button lt UP gt to increase the number of the chaser The number of t
6. he active chaser appears now on the screen To set another speed rate for the chaser e Keep pressing the button lt ENTER CHASER gt for approx 1sec The screen now shows the indication r 10 that means that the current rate of the chaser is 10 e Press the button lt DOWN gt to reduce or the button lt UP gt to increase the speed rate To set the dimmer level of the chaser e Keep pressing the button lt ENTER CHASER gt for approx 1sec The screen now shows the indication d FL that means that the dimmer level of the chaser is at FULL e Press the button lt DOWN gt or the button lt UP gt to increase or decrease the dimmer level To set another Fade time of the chaser e Keep pressing the button lt ENTER CHASER gt for approx 1sec The screen now shows the indication F 00 which means that the fade time is at 0 e Press the button lt DOWN gt or the button lt UP gt to increase or decrease the fade time The number that it shows in the screen is the 1 10 of the second If for example you see the indication F 17 then the fade time is 1 7sec To deactivate a chaser e Press the button lt ENTER CHASER gt The chaser is deactivated and the screen shows again the start address of the DMX Notes On each deactivate of the chaser the number the speed rate the dimmer level and the fade time are stored in the dimmer memory so as in the next activation to operate the same chaser with
7. ide of the unit there is one male and need male 5pin XLR connector used to control the dimmer from a digital DMX 512 control desk The male connector is used for the input of the digital signal whereas the female connector is used to supply the next unit if there is one The connection of the 5pin XLR connectors is performed in the following way Male connector XLR Female connector XLR Pin 1 common OV common OV Pin 2 data data Pin 3 data data Pin 4 not connected not connected Pin 5 not connected not connected Besides the connection of the serial signal you should also set the start address from which the dimmerpack receives the digital input On the front panel of the dimmerpack there is a three digit display which indicates the number of the start address as well as three buttons that are used to select a new start address e Press the button lt DOWN gt to reduce or the button lt UP gt to increase the number of the start address Notice that the display is flashing rapidly e Within 15 sec After pressing the buttons lt DOWN gt or lt UP gt press the button lt ENTER gt to save the new start address Caution If you do not pres the button lt ENTER gt within 15sec the display will stop flashing and the predetermined start address will be maintained Example For channel selection 1 3 set the start address 001 For channel selection 23 25 set the start address 023 For chann
8. ogue control In the lower part of the unit there is one male and one female D sub 9 pin plug through which the dimmer is adjusted by a control desk of analogue output 0 10VDC Caution In the U K GB15A plug model there are two female DIN Locking 8 pin sockets The D sub 9 pin male plug is used for the input of analogue information and the female one for the output of the same analogue information to the next dimmerpack connected The dimmerpack accepts six analogue inputs from which the user can select the first three inputs 1 3 or the last three inputs 4 6 to adjust the three channels of the dimmerpack The selection is performed through the slider switch placed on the front panel of the dimmerpack Two leds placed over the slider switch indicate the channels that are selected The dimmerpack provides a voltage of 20VDC that is used to supply small control desks such as the ELECTRON E1115 6M control desk The pin connection is the following D sub 9 pin Pin 1 Analogue input 1 Pin 6 Analogue input 6 Pin 2 Analogue input 2 Pin 7 not connected Pin 3 Analogue input 3 Pin 8 15 VDC max 50 mA Pin 4 Analogue input 4 Pin 9 Common 0 V Pin 5 Analogue input 5 DIN Locking 8 pin Pin 1 Analogue input 1 Pin 5 Analogue input 5 Pin 2 Analogue input 2 Pin 6 Analogue input 6 Pin 3 Analogue input 3 Pin 7 15 VDC max 50 mA Pin 4 Analogue input 4 Pin 8 Common 0 V Digital Control At the lower s
9. previously removed from the storage compartment with the wing nuts on the equivalent screw nuts as shown in the left picture The pipe is now placed between the dimmerpack and this special accessory In case that the pipe diameter is small turn over the truss accessory and screw it in the wing nuts Desktop use In case you want to make desktop use of the dimmerpack so as to have easy and quick access to the built in controller remove the four feet from the storage compartment and place them on the four corners of the dimmerpack Notice that the dimmerpack is provided for desktop use CAUTION In case a screw is lost do not ever use a screw longer than the ones supplied with the unit Electrical connection The electrical connection should be performed by an experienced and qualified person e The power supply to which the dimmerpack is connected should incorporate mains switch and fuse e The operating voltage and the maximum power consumption with max load of the dimmerpacks are the following DIMMERPACK JAZZ 310 230V 50 Hz 15A DIMMERPACK JAZZ 311 230V 50 Hz 30 A e Disconnect temporarily the power supply before connecting the dimmerpack e The dimmerpack is regularly supplied with a 1 5m cable Longer cable as well as a CEE 17 plug is available on request The connections are performed in the following way JAZZ 310 with power supply cable of 3 wires x 2 5mm2 JAZZ 311 with power supply cable of 3 wires x6mmz2
10. r Wall mounting On the upper and lower rear side of the dimmer there are two screwed accessories which are used to hang or secure permanently the dimmerpack on a wall or on any other non flammable surface e Unscrew the upper or both accessories and screw them again in the nuts so that they excel from the dimmerpack e Install on the wall the appropriate nail or screw to hang the dimmerpack or screw the dimmerpack directly on the wall when permanent installation is required The distance where the nails or the screws should be installed is 60 mm horizontally and 330 mm vertically Any reproduction by means or whole of this user s manual in any way is prohibited without the written consent of ELECTRON S A ELECTRON S A reserves the right to change or alter any information contained in this manual without prior notice Stand or truss mounting In the storage compartment of the dimmer there is another accessory which is mounted with two wing nuts and with which the dimmerpack can be secured on a pipe of a stand or a truss of external diameter from 15 mm to 50 mm e Remove the accessory from the dimmerpack by unscrewing the two wing nuts which withhold it e Place the rear side of the dimmerpack on the pipe of the stand or truss as high as you wish making sure that the pipe touches the triangles on the rear side of the dimmerpack e By holding the dimmerpack on the selected position screw the truss accessory that you ave
