3. format would like to not go to the next lesson when I click on Submit Often a different responder s lesson I simply need access to more smart classrooms That said UND s attitude to technology is largely to play catch up rather than engage qualified faculty in conversations about innovation was gobsmacked this semester when A amp S decided to put a new smart room in Merrifield an NO ONE from the Digital Working Group including a member of the group from the Department that received the room Languages was included in the design conversation When this project was touted to my department emphasizing for example that you could use this technology to bring in speakers asked How is this different from any other smart room or even from what I can do from my laptop for MUCH cheaper This was met with silence 1 What works well is having resources to either show examples revelent to our area such as imagey of use to the student rather than standard images from text book archives 2 would like to get some help with improving my test questions If there is a way to assist in creating good questions both true false fill in the blank and short answer so that I could do a better job of evaluating what the student knows This might be difficult as a person needs to have read the text in order to figure out what the material is in order to write a good question Also need to improve interaction with other departments who have specialti
4. monitor problems by disconnecting the HDMI cable Itis not clear why display set up problems never seem to go away Possibly different classes change display settings or use HDMI connections for different purposes There are two or three tables that have consistent connectivity problems CILT has fixed some but not all of these problems Overall find that things work very well suspect do not use everything available to me and could use more This is a time issue understand there are workshops etc available but not always easy to attend have found that when am an organization leader in Blackboard am unable to create a Campus Pack Wiki which is something that need to do often and am not sure if there is a way around this Blackboard complaints don t like the way a new announcement goes to the bottom of the announcements and it is slow to have it move up to the top manually don t like that to delete announcements it has to be done individually and it is a slow process could do a limited time but not always sure how long want it to be posted don t like that cannot print off one column of scores from all students from Grade book Grade Center don t like that when recording the last score in a column itjumps up to the top of the next column in Grade Center Outstanding and efficient service Having staff support by Ms Sharley Kurtz has been most assuring Everything used worked well use Blackboard as a way
5. students Turning technologies access for students in their presentations without cost Qualtrics added for assessment of courses with building of the site based on responses would love to have Blackboard on my Surface Maybe as a clicker My laptop works better for working in Blackboard want to show video from my iphone don t use my mobile device but encourage students to use them in the classroom as appropriate Being able to connect with the class from it for last minute information Itis really hard to use the app when it continuously shuts down and isn t the same as the online website would like to use iPad in classroom but don t know how to go about doing that Not so much I like a large screen There is no need to use mobile devices in the classroom do have a desire to learn about clickers though How can I connect my iPad to the multimedia facilities in a classroom am pretty techno illiterate but there are several sites NASA etc that have useful tools that could use l am certain underutilize my iPad s capabilities n a It would be nice to be able to access blackboard when no wireless internet is available but I really do not want to have to use my personal devices to do work have a need for some down time and personal space never do want to be available to my students 24 7 need to sleep and eat without being hassled yes Maybe Mostly communication with students and for e mailing links
6. to conveniently share my class notes and solved problems with students also use it as a way to share any revisions to schedule and or assignments For these tasks it works well do record grades in Blackboard and that is good for giving students prompt feedback But also keep my own spreadsheet for recording and calculating grades Everything worked well didn t run into any glitches The only problem I ran into was that students sitting on one side of the room had difficulty seeing the whole screen during presentations lectures because the monitor podium was directly in their way Education Bldg Rm 22 It would have been more effective to have the monitors further off to the side Students often had to crane their necks or physically get up and stand to see the bottom fourth of the screen Usually assignments work on Bb either singly or by groups Usually Tegrity recordings work ok Students complained of scratchy audio on some occasions though The consistency of use of the SmartPodium 7 in the SCALE UP room leaves much room for improvement 1 Far fewer problems encountered with students using iPads than in the past 2 There were a huge number of technical problems with Bb this semester population of course didn t occur blogs disappeared individual entries on blogs didn t show up and many other problems occurred all semester long The classroom console had many problems all semester including a non functioning remote Very frustratin

11. e attending the meeting then please do so Several times now have attended sessions with the instructor saying they would send out information and they don t Frustrating l like the fact that I am able to import duplicate courses from one semester to another am confident they are archived and available should need them in the future don t use the gradebook in Blackboard because it is too inflexible I teach distance engineering students with the help of Power Point Slides insert blank slides to write for solving problems Also like to write on the already made slides to make and emphasize certain points find that the pens do not work that good as wish them to There is parallax that means the position of the dot of the pen and writing by the pen are not at the same place It makes writing not that smooth Many times when am writing the drop boxes pop up on the screen which is irritating have been told Power Point is not meant for writing If I use Mimeo then have to switch back and forth between Power Point slides and the Mimeo The writing experience is not very pleasant and it hurts the teaching process in comparison to the OLD BLACKBOARD chalk and pen type of writing assume there should be better PC screens available to mitigate the problem Phone call when needed tech support Live chat has worked for me as well although did not use for this Well overall everything works well for the level I am using the technolog

14. ervices even though the majority of interactions have been good One or two bad apples really do spoil the barrel UND has way too many different systems that you need to get into different ways As a part time instructor itis next to impossible to figure out what I need to do where IF it even works when finally get tot he right place There have been a few times would have liked longer online chat hours don t bother with contacting the Help Desk anymore too inefficient don t get directed to someone that can help go directly to the online chat No A SAS PC workshop that I could use Like said previously would prefer a paper instruction pamphlet with numbered steps to follow yes I m an OTA adult Nota big Blackboard fan Considering how easy it is to access multimedia and information on the web Blackboard is not very flexible or able to integrate outside technologies Continue with the excellent tech support Better integrate with the Office of Instructional Development to link funding pedagogical best practices and tech how to knowledge Have an orientation or teaching session for incoming freshmen to show them how to deal with computer technical problems and how to do troubleshooting They are easily frustrated by technology and really are not tech savvy They need to learn to be proactive and problem oriented when using blackboard and other technology Please teach them before setting them loose into classrooms
15. es in areas that briefly touch on during portions of my class lecture 3 More current new technology in the classroom so students get practical hands on experiance with what they will use when then get out into the job environment This unfortunately is not a CILT issue but one of department funding and student fees trying to measure a cost benefit ratio Blackboard is essential The format of the large enrollment course teach would not be possible without it Some functions are cumbersome and slow It would be nice to have batch functions for some tasks teach in the SCALE UP room The small group active learning we do there depends heavily on the technology especially the laptops Student groups access and submit assignments through Blackboard every session This has worked very smoothly ran into problems with security issues related to use of some Java based web applications This required me to spot check SCALE UP laptops in advance to determine feasibility of doing some activities have had to stop using some web applications because of inconsistent access SCALE UP monitors are also very useful allowing a real time assessment of group progress during class This functionality has been somewhat limited by balky connectivity Every class period it has been necessary for me to visit probably about a third of the tables in order to establish connectivity This seems to be mainly an HDMl communication problem A significant number of students solve
16. fore Previously the Campus pack worked great and without a hitch However CILT was hugely prompt and helpful in getting my class back online Bb was usually more or less operational so that was a welcome improvement The audio feedback functions built into Bb Gradebook are welcome but extremely clunky to use it s almost as if someone was trying to see how many clicks could possibly be required Jame Sims was very helpful So thanks Jane 1 Very thankful to have attended TwT in May 2013 and to have the opportunity to work in Merrifield 312 2 I need more time to be able to think creatively about how to integrate technology into my courses 3 Not sure at this time Having students do paper assignments as groups in class has worked for me this semester Previously had students submit essays and assignments via blackboard but there were so many technical problems that students got frustrated and stopped paying attention to the content The result was they did not learn and they blamed all computer problems on me can thave something like that distract them from learning anymore so switched back this semester to paper submissions There has been a change in student abilities over time and the current students cannot use technology properly They need an orientation before their first semester on how to use technology and trouble shoot problem solve when things don t go as easily as they might wish l like the new Blackboard grading

22. n technology here but post my tegrity recording on Blackboard and they all ended up deleted about 2 3 of the way through the semester All my old class recording were also deleted so it wasn t even like could go back and use those Every semester it seems like have some issue with Blackboard and am always assured by the staff that no one else is having these issues So it really is starting to feel personal Have done something wrong that makes me be the only one have these issues every semester But talk to other people around campus and they have problems too Aerospace and Computer Science both use other things than Blackboard What do they know that we don t Greater prevalence of SMART rooms would be nice Blackboard is great but getting data out of tests quizzes for specific individuals is time consuming and difficult Qualtrics should be able to display all the acquired information without having to export can see individual answers but the process for viewing the entire survey is a bit much Tegrity has been working well Groups set up for a design project with both on campus and distance students worked well Plesae switch to something besides Blackboard Blackboard is horrible especially for partial term instructors as your system kicks people out on a regular basis Inline grading works great iPad in class Blackboard worked pretty well Blackboard Collaborate if you say you are going to send out information to peopl

27. y I hear from colleagues that Blackboard never works right have not experienced any problems with Blackboard this year In terms of the future will refer to my above comments Blackboard is an effective means of communication between the student and instructor Blackboard is a great concept but is out of date have physical difficulties with mouse work and Blackboard relies extensively on forms and methods that can only be done with the mouse Drop and drag etc could also make it easier to use A grade book in the app would be nice A functional Dropbox system Blackboard is very useful The student computer labs are too take classes to the ones in Math and Chemistry It would be really useful if a projector in a classroom could split a screen and show both the Elmo material and a power point simultaneously wish Bb had a way of correctly entering extra credit in Grade Center Presently enter an extra credit assignment as 0 points but Bb forces it to have the point total of the assignment So students that do not do the XC work thik that their grade is lower than it really is becauswe Bb forces those points into the denominator of possible course points They get REALLY confused and anxious as a result haven t really used it enough to make a comment We had problems with students submitting assignments but then the assignment did not appear if my Blackboard cite Had a few frustrations with Campus pack which have never had be
