8. ell done Plymouth for taking some positive action to bring philately to the notice of the public and showing them what a fun hobby it can be Note the use of a bit of bribery Ed PLYMOUTH CLUB WEB PAGES The club have had a serious look at their pages on the Wessex Federation website and asked themselves how can we make the pages work a bit better for our club The Club in conjunction with the Federation Webmaster have been able to re structure their pages to better illustrate the club giving some background history show what the club does where they meet and what they can offer new members Other Clubs are encouraged to look at the revised Plymouth Club Pages review their own web pages and ask themselves do our web pages best sell the club and its activities If not work with the Federation Webmaster to get them saying what you want A WORD FROM OUR CHAIRMAN I ve just received an auction catalogue large amp glossy the cover plastered in G B commemoratives none of which recognise amp all un cancelled Some find quite attractive Do soak them off amp reuse Ethically I m defrauding the Royal Mail but a lot of us have done so in the past With privatization of the Royal Mail a strong possibility in the next year or two what is going to happen to the validity of all these mint amp unused stamps can foresee that the new owners will not want to take on the cost for providing a service paid for by these old stamps My

14. rmation supplied by clubs to the federation If you have a story for the next Wessex Bulletin we want to hear it Comments about this Wessex Bulletin and Copy for the next Bulletin by November ie sia Bolte PRILATEGE SOCIETY mail PLYMOUTHS L DAY OUT on Saturday 3 August Plymouth Philatelic Society took itself out of the club and into Plymouth s Royal Citadel as part of the HMS Heroes and 29 Commando Royal Artillery military families fun day A flag bedecked marquee was set up and _ filled with displays of stamps plus activity tables where _ youngsters and adults could soak off stamps and dry them E They could stick stamps onto album sheets search for water marks look at phosphor bands and measure perforations A quiz on the stamps displayed was popular with youngsters as when they returned their sheet they were given a fun bar The winning youngsters were Dominic Stewart Jack Evans and Archie Keith each receiving a Stanley Gibbons starter pack donated by Wessex Philatelic Federation There was a giveaway table where the families could help themselves to postal cards or stamps from stock books to enhance or start their collection Martin Ellam Chairman of PPS said he was delighted by the help offered by club members giving up a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon to promote stamp collecting The pictures show the splendid Marquee used by Plymouth Club and a few of the members and visitors who attended the event W
