NEW Skill Level REPAIR WEIONDA Service Bulletin Model 1994 96 ACCORD Applicable To File Under Bulletin No Ohio production onl ae i ucti y VIN begins with 1HG BRAKES Issue Date JUNE 30 1998 Brake Fluid Leak From the ABS Modulator Supersedes 96 050 dated October 27 1997 SYMPTOM Brake fluid is dripping from the left front corner of the car and the ABS modulator is wet The ABS light may also be on with a Code 1 stored PROBABLE CAUSE The plugs in the ABS modulator assembly are not properly tightened Refer to Service Bulletin 94 029 Brake Fluid Leak for leakage from the accumulator CORRECTIVE ACTION Remove reinstall and torque the plugs in the ABS modulator assembly NOTE Use the 1996 Accord Service Manual for reference when performing this procedure REQUIRED MATERIALS Brake Assembly Fluid P N 08798 9019 H C 5775598 WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION In warranty The normal warranty applies Operation number 413305 Flat rate time 0 9 hour Failed part P N 57110 SV1 A04 H C 4549770 Defect code 060 Contention code B01 Template ID 96 050A Skill level Repair Technician Out of warranty Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Service Manager or your Zone Office You must request consideration and get a decision before starting work 1998 American Honda Motor Co Inc All Rights Reserved

REPAIR PROCEDURE 1 ATB 18348 19648 9806 Relieve the pressure in the ABS page 19 128 MODULATOR UNIT TUBE MAINTENANCE BLEEDER Remove the modulator assembly from the car page 19 130 Remove the mounting bracket from the modulator assembly Remove the reservoir page 19 133 Do not damage the O rings 1 of 2 CUSTOMER INFORMATION The information in this bulletin is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools equipment and training to correctly and safely maintain your vehicle These procedures should not be attempted by do it yourselfers and you should not assume this bulletin applies to your vehicle or that your vehicle has the condition described To determine whether this information applies contact an authorized Honda automobile dealer NEW 5 Locate the six plugs that need to be removed Remove these plugs DO NOT remove these four plugs Remove these two plugs Place the modulator in a soft jawed vise or have an assistant hold the modulator Remove the six plugs one at a time Coat the threads with brake assembly fluid see REQUIRED MATERIALS then reinstall the plug Torque the plug to 17 5 N m 151 in lb 2 of 2 10 11 12 13 14 Clean the bottom of the modulator assembly with brake cleaner This will remove any remaining brake fluid that may have wicked up into the threads of the bottom plugs and may later be mistaken for a
3. leak Clean with brake cleaner LARGE PLUGS DO NOT loosen or tighten BOTTOM OF ABS MODULATOR Reinstall the mounting bracket and the reservoir Fill the reservoir with clean brake fluid Install the modulator in the car page 19 131 Bleed the ABS page 19 128 Bleed the brake system page 19 6 Clear any codes in the ABS control unit by removing the ABS B2 fuse from the under hood ABS fuse box for three seconds 96 050
