11. 1 Remove the retaining nut Remove the arrester from the end of the muffler 2 Use anon synthetic brush to clean the arrester screen A synthetic brush may melt if components are warm If necessary blow debris from the screen with compressed air 3 Inspect the screen for wear and damage Replace a worn or dam aged screen 4 Reinstall the arrester Torque the nut to 7 9 ft lbs 10 12 Nm Screen Arrester c Retaining Muffler Nut 90 MAINTENANCE Throttle System A WARNING Failure to check or maintain proper operation of the throttle system can result in an accident and lead to serious injury or death if the throttle pedal sticks during operation Never start or operate this vehicle if it has a sticking or improperly operating throttle pedal Immediately contact your POLARIS dealer for service if throttle problems arise Always check the pedal for free movement and return before starting the engine and occasionally during operation Throttle Freeplay If the throttle pedal has excessive play due to cable stretch or misadjust ment it will cause a delay in throttle response especially at low engine speed The throttle may also not open fully If the throttle pedal has no free play the throttle may be hard to con trol and the idle speed may be erratic Check the throttle pedal freeplay at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Throttle Maintenance Chart beginning on page Pedal 65 Adjust the freeplay
