Assist Service manual Contents Product description 3 Washing and disinfection 4 Reconditioning 5 6 Accessories 7 Check list 8 SERVICE MANUAL Product presentation SERVICE MANUAL Product description REA Assist Rea Assist is the perfect choice for passive users because it is comfortable to sit in and provides proper support Of course when developing this chair we also took into consideration the needs of the carer The improved Invacare Flex2 seat can be adapted to the individual and offers stable and comfortable seating positions and user activities Rea Assist makes sure that users who need to sit for long periods of time in the wheelchair can feel comfortable The adjustable seating system adjusts both the width and the seat depth and comes with specially designed cushions and arm rest pads that offer good support and are suitable for most users Extra comfort and peace of mind are obtained by increasing the user s body contact with the wheelchair cushions The deeply contoured backrest cushion provides excellent support for the user s back and trunk The specially designed backrest cushion creates perfect comfort and positioning To optimise seating needs Assist has a 20 seat tilt with independent backrest recline of 30 This allows the user be both active and relaxed The seat tilt and backrest recline are operated by a gas spring which allows the user to easily change their position fr

If any damage is discovered the part must be completely replaced Covers If a cover is torn we recommend that it be replaced Seat backrest angle Check this function by changing the angle of the backrest and the seat through the lowest to the highest settings using the backrest con trols If you cannot tilt the seat or angle the backrest start by adjusting the wire next to the gas piston holder If this does not help you need to replace the gas spring Also check at a middle setting and make sure the piston locks correctly Please note The gas spring must not be opened it contains gas and oil at very high pressure Backrest Check that the backrest is firmly in place and that the knobs are secure on the backrest Push handles push bar Check that the push handles pushbar are stable when adjusting the height that the push handles are firmly secured by the knobs that the rubber on the handle is intact and that the handle feels sturdy If not you need to reglue them If they are defective they should be replaced for safety reasons Also check that all tilt labels are readable if they are not replace them Armrest Check that the functions work remove and put back the armrest adjust the height and depth of the armrest plate If the armrest cover is torn we recommend that it be replaced with a new one Legrest Check that the functions work remove and put back the legrest adjust the height of the footplate adjust the height
3. and depth of the calf support and check the angle settings of the footplate If the calf plate is broken we recom mend that it be replaced Anti tip device Check that the anti tip device is easy to raise and lower and that the screws holding the anti tip device in place are flexible and can lock Rear wheels Check that the rear wheels screws are tight Check that the chair brakes if not the wire can be adjusted in two places near the handle at the top or close to the wheel hub at the bottom Also check that the wire cover has not split if it has it needs to be replaced Tighten the wire until the brake is function ing effectively If the rear wheels are pneumatic check their pressure and pump them The correct air pressure is stated on the tyres If they are solid check for cracks and see whether they need to be replaced Reconditioning SERVICE MANUAL Castors Remove the castors and clean any hair or other dirt from the castor forks and wheels Reassemble the castor and check that it turns and rotates easily Check that the whole castor can be removed and put back on again If it is too loose it could mean that the bearing is worn so we recommend replacing the bearing If the castors are pneumatic check their pressure and pump them The correct air pressure is stated on the tyre If the castors are solid check for cracks and see whether they need to be replaced Tools Check that the Allen key is in place on the backres

5. d brakes while the castors are 140 200 mm The wheels can be pneumatic or semi solid Brake handles are fitted on the push handles The seat and backrest cushions have been designed with the user in mind They give as much stability and comfort as possible and provide good pressure distri bution Washing and disinfection Washing and disinfection SERVICE MANUAL Remove all adjustable removable covers and wash them in a washing machine Follow the washing instructions for each article 2 If the wheelchair is very dirty we recommend that you remove the back rest and the seat plate to make the chair easier to wash Rinse the wheelchair with a high pressure or ordinary jet of water depending on how dirty the chair is Do not aim the jet towards the bearings and draining holes If the wheelchair is washed in a washing machine the water must not be hotter than 60 degrees Spray the chair with alcohol to disinfect it Spray the wheelchair with detergent for example a car cleaning agent with wax Leave the detergent to work for a couple of minutes Rinse the chair with a high pressure or ordinary jet of water depending on how dirty the chair is Do not aim the jet directly towards the bear ings and draining holes Check that the chair is clean Leave the chair to dry in drying cabinet Remove parts where water easily collect If the chair has been washed in a machine we recommend that it is also blow dried usi
6. ng compressed air 10 Check that the chair is dry and wipe with a cloth if necessary Also check that all labels are readable if they are not replace them e g tilting labels stickers for transport attachment points etc If the chair is not very dirty you can just spray it with alcohol and wipe it dry with a cloth The wheelchair is now ready for reconditioning Sign your name to con firm that the chair is clean Dartex Superficial dirt can be removed by wiping it with a soft cloth moistened with water and detergent For heavier dirt and where there is a risk of contamination first wipe with alcohol and then with warm water and detergent Special disinfectants may be used provided that the manufac turer s instructions are followed The covers can be washed in a machine at 60 degrees Reconditioning SERVICE MANUAL Reconditioning We recommend that all movable parts are lubricated with a dry teflon based spray e g Viso 900 B5 if they stick or squeak Screws and nuts Check that all screws and nuts are tight Screws and nuts should be retightened periodically as they can loosen over time Screws which are removed completely should be replaced with new ones especially locking nuts as they loose some of their locking features if removed Contact Invacare for information regarding spareparts Chassis All parts must be checked for cracks or any other damage Pay special attention to areas close to welds
