ON SAFE UNLESS YOU RE COCK THE AIR RIFLE DO NOT RECOCK THE AIR RIFLE WHILE IT IS LOADED TO PUT IT BACK ON SAFE STEP 2 COCKING YOUR AIR RIFLE WHEN COCKING THE AIR RIFLE DO NOT PLACE YOUR HAND OVER OR IN FRONT OF THE MUZZLE NEVER ALLOW THE MUZZLE TO POINT TOWARD YOU OR ANYONE ELSE DURING COCKING ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED INA SAFE DIRECTION BREAK BARREL AIR RIFLES With one hand grasp stock firmly behind trigger guard avoiding contact with the trigger and brace the butt end of the stock against your thigh Grasp the barrel near the muzzle end just illustration 3 behind the front sight Pull downward and to the rear until it comes to a solid stop You will hear a click indicating that the spring piston has been locked into position see illustration 3 AMMUNITION Your Hammerli 490 Express Air Rifle is designed to fire 177 caliber lead pellets only We recommend the use of RWS Pellets because of their superb accuracy and dimensional uniformity The correct caliber is clearly stamped on the barrel near the breech block or on the breech block NEVER DRY FIRE YOUR AIR RIFLE If the air rifle is fired without a lead pellet or RWS Cleaning Pellet in the breech it will cause the piston to bottom out in the cylinder which can permanently damage the air rifle CARE AND MAINTENANCE Z CAUTION BEFORE ANY CARE CLEANING OR MAINTENANCE ALWAYS BE SURE YOUR AIR RIFLE IS UNCOCKED AND UNLOADED KEEP IT POINTED IN

6. position ON SAFE 2 Lib rez le canon en ins rant une baguette de nettoyage dans la culasse 3 R p tez les tapes ANMISE EN GARDE ne TIREZ PAS LORSQUE LE CANON EST OUVERT CELA PEUT AVOIR COMME RESULTAT UN CANON TORDU ET OU UNE CROSSE CRAQUEE ET ANNULERA VOTRE GARANTIE DECHARGER UN PROJECTILE Tirez le projectile vers une CIBLE S CURITAIRE pour d charger l arme Si cela n est pas possible placez le cran de s ret de la carabine air dans la position ON SAFE armez l arme air pour ouvrir le canon et faites sortir le projectile de la chambre de culasse en ins rant une baguette de nettoyage dans la culasse Ins rez un projectile de nettoyage RWS et tirez vers une cible s curitaire ENLEVER UN PROJECTILE BLOQUE Si un projectile se bloque dans le canon NE RECHARGEZ PAS l arme 1 Armez la carabine air voir TAPE 2 ARMER VOTRE CARABINE A AIR pointez la carabine air dans une DIRECTION S CURITAIRE placez la carabine air dans la position OFF SAFE et pressez la d tente pour faire feu 2 Faites basculer le canon l g rement sans pousser le canon compl tement vers le bas pour armer la carabine et regardez dans la culasse pour voir si la carabine air s est enray e voir illustration 7 NE REGARDEZ JAMAIS DANS LA BOUCHE DU CANON 3 Si l arme air est encore enray e ins rez une baguette de calibre 0 177 dans la culasse et poussez le projectile coinc pour le faire sortir par la bouche du

A SAFE DIRECTION IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN YOUR AIRGUN PROPERLY WORKING PARTS The working parts piston illustration 9 and mainspring require very little lubrication es Two 2 drops of RWS Air Chamber Lube every k 1000 shots will suffice It is easily applied through the compression chamber port with a 3 1 2 eo IS applicator needle see illustrations 9 The wearing 6D surfaces at the barrel hinge the cocking arm and os the trigger mechanism should be lubricated with Ss RWS Spring Cylinder Oil see illustration 10a i 4 Mainsprings should be oiled every 1000 shots with six 6 drops of RWS Spring Cylinder Oil see illustration 10b Remember a little is good a lot is not better us P ANCAUTION CHECK THE illustration 10a S Under side of TIGHTNESS OF THE FRONT TRIGGER airgun GUARD AND STOCK SCREWS BETWEEN DURING AND AFTER SHOOTING ACTIVITY LOOSE SCREWS MAY CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH CTT BARREL In day to day use very little dirt or residue will accumulate in the bore This can be removed by using RWS Cleaning Pellets Note High quality RWS Lead Pellets not only increase accuracy they help to reduce lead deposit During periods of regular use the bore of the barrel should be cleaned periodically by means of a felt wad or cleaning rod with wool mop Wire brushes should not be used Insert rod from breech end do not remove barrel STEP 3 LOADING YOUR AIR RIFLE Insert a 177
