D_______y remel Pathotec CO Cytochrome Oxidase INTENDED USE Remel Pathotec CO Cytochrome Oxidase is a reagent impregnated paper strip recommended for use in qualitative procedures for the rapid detection of cytochrome oxidase activity in microorganisms English SUMMARY AND EXPLANATION The enzyme cytochrome oxidase CO is produced in large amounts by some genera and species of bacteria However this enzyme is not produced by members of the family Enterobacteriaceae Furthermore typical genera and species of this family of microorganisms are not only cytochrome oxidase negative but also nitrate reductase positive When Pathotec CO is used with a nitrate reductase test the results of these two tests generally indicate whether an isolate belongs to the family Enterobacteriaceae exceptions are Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and some members of the genus Pasteurella Pathotec CO has been found to compare well with conventional procedures for detecting cytochrome oxidase activity in microorganisms and offers the following advantages 1 Accuracy complete agreement between Pathotec CO and conventional methods 45 2 Speed following primary isolation Pathotec CO can be read 30 seconds after inoculation 3 Flexibility blends conveniently with current procedures and requires only a small storage area compared to conventional media 4 Reliability reagents which duplicate conventional procedures are a
