A Stabilized Radar Antenna system Tomoyasu lto Shintaro Inoue Katsumi Yazawa Motoo Sato Kouichi Morita Masanori Sudoh Shigeru Matsumoto The radar on a ship is used for marine s safety sailing and it becomes indispensable In recent years owing to the increase of small pleasure boats there is a request of the improvement of the radar performance to detect these small boats with small radar cross section On the other hand for fishing boats there are requests of the improvement of the radar performances that are close range detection performance which is to detect small targets such as buoys in the clutter of sea or rain and the radar ong range detection performance which is to watch the status of the buoy for the almadraba and the operational status of other ships in far place For these detection performance improvements it is necessary to improve not only the signal processing capability but also the radar system gain The increase of the antenna gain is effective for the improvement of the radar system gain To improve the antenna gain it is usual method to use an antenna in long length to narrow the horizontal beam width of the antenna However in this method

11. the antenna becomes so large as not to equip the radar in the limited space on a ship To overcome these difficulties we developed a high gain antenna by narrowing the vertical beam width of the antenna Moreover we developed the new stabilized mechanism that the antenna always keeps the horizontal level In this report the overview of the stabilized radar antenna system by using these techniques is introduced 1 1
