M gt Abstract Compared with other industry the information oriented development in agriculture seems very slow As an example computer use in farming actvities only accounts for by 10 percent of Japanese farmers This may be mainly caused by two reasons One is that farmers haven t fully enjoyed the merits of information service though great attention has been given to the extension of computer and internet are paid great attention Another is that the development in aericultural information is mainly implemented by individual farmers while the full attention is not given to network development This paper develops a new concept named collective information use and examines its performance and the possibihty of extension in Japanese agriculture by a survey to agricultural corporation M Key Words Agricultural information development Collective information use sustainable farming 1
