Sasa src ieee METRICS M aking your world easier safer User Manual Table of Contents Introduction About the Fingerprint Activated Door Lock and Ignition System Organization of This Document Storing a Print Scanning a Print Deleting Prints Deleting All Prints Deleting One Print Care and Maintenance The Scanner The Keypad and LCD Troubleshooting Guide FICS Biometrics See 10 Introduction About the Fingerprint Activated Door Lock and Ignition System Thank you for purchasing the FICS Biometrics Fingerprint Access System Be sure to read through this whole manual before operating your new fingerprint activated car door lock and ignition enabling system The Fingerprint Access System is a cutting edge design with an intuitive easy to use keypad interface on the dash of your car and a rugged scanner mounted outside on the driver s door of your car The memory in the system can hold up to five fingerprints These prints can be deleted and new prints stored according to the changing circumstances and driving needs of your family or business Upon the successful scan of a previously stored finger the driver s door of your car will unlock and the ignition system will be enabled for a period of two minutes Pressing the ignition button on the steering column in the two minute interval will start your car and you are ready to go all without the need for cumbersome keys The LCD screen mounted on the da2. serve you well for years to come The Scanner gt Do not apply excessive force to the fingerprint scanner window gt You need only place your finger Very little pressure is necessary gt The protective hood over the scanner must remain in place If sitting in direct sunlight or rain for a sustained period of time the scanner could become inoperable gt If the scanner window becomes dirty it may not recognize stored prints as readily Wipe with a damp cloth using a small amount of vinegar if plain water is insufficient CAUTION Do not use any solvent eg Conventional record cleaner spray thinner benzine etc to clean the scanner window The Keypad and LCD Display gt Do not press on the LCD display gt Follow the prompts on the LCD display closely when storing and deleting prints gt When pressing the keypad buttons it is most effective to press them slowly and firmly holding down each button for a period of a sec ond and watching the LCD for an indication that the depressing of the button was recognized gt Do not repeatedly press the buttons on the keypad if it appears to be not responding There are delays built into the system to ensure that a scan has time to be processed If the system seems frozen press reset wait 3 or 4 seconds and try again FICS Biometrics 9 Troubleshooting e If you are having trouble with your Fingerprint Access System check this list for possible solutions before ca
3. l now display a message asking if you wish to delete all users 4 Press YES if you wish to erase all users You will press NO if you only want to delete one 4 e e If you press YES all the prints will be deleted a message will be displayed to that effect and the system will return to the main menu 3 e If you press NO and therefore only wish to delete one user refer to o enr Deleting One Print below Deleting One Print Follow steps one through three in Deleting All Prints above EA 4 Press NO when LCD says DELETE ALL USERS 4 e 9 5 Enter the ID number of the user you wish deleted o enr FICS Biometrics 7 6 Press ENTER e If the number is three digits long the system effectively presses ENTER for you and goes on to the next step e The screen will now display the message CORRECT USER ID with your selected ID number below 7 Press YES if the user ID displayed is the one you want deleted Press NO if it is not in which case the system will reset and you can try again from the top e The LCD will now display a message to confirm that the specified user or all users have been deleted and it will reset to display FICS BIOMETICS e Ifthe number you selected is not recognized as a stored ID number the LCD will display PRINT NOT FOUND and reset FICS Biometrics 8 Care and Maintenance Handle your Fingerprint Access system with reasonable care and sense and it will

5. m effectively presses ENTER for you and goes on to the next step e The screen will now display the message CORRECT USER ID with your chosen ID number below 6 Press YES if the number displayed on the screen is the number you want If it is not press NO and the system will return to step four so you can try again e Ifthe number you chose has already been taken for another print the LCD will display ID ALREADY TAKEN and the system will return to step four You will need to choose a new ID number e If there are already five prints stored in the system s memory the LCD will display MAX PRINTS STORED ALREADY and it will return to the main menu You will need to delete a print before attempting to store a new print again 7 Place finger on scanner window as indicated in Figure 1 The crease at the first knuckle on the underside of your finger should be lined up with the ridge on the scanner window Leave finger here until the LCD display says PRINT STORED and remove finger immediately at this point PRINT STORED LJe Keke es Lo Ii Once your print has been stored it will remain in the system s memory until it is manually removed see Deleting a Print page 4 Note Very little pressure is required by the fingerprint scanner to pick up a print Excessive pressure could shorten the life of your scanner FICS Biometrics 5 Scanning a Print for Entry to Car As stated above once you
6. nce your print has been stored it will remain in the system s memory until it is manually removed see Deleting a Print page 4 Pressing RST at any time in this process will return you to the main menu in which case the LCD will say FICS BIOMETRICS Crease of finger rests here during store and scan processes Figure 1 Positioning of finger for storing and scanning The process is as follows 1 Make sure that FICS BIOMETRICS is being displayed on the LCD display If it is not press RESET 2 Press STORE You will now be prompted to enter your authorization number 3 Enter authorization number and press ENTER e If the authorization number was incorrectly entered INCORRECT AUTH appears on the display for three seconds and then the system returns to the main menu e Ifthe authorization number was correctly entered the LCD will now display a message prompting you for a user number 4 Enter a user ID number of your choice e The user number can be any value between 1 and 999 e Choose a number that will have some significance to you and write it down It s a good idea to keep a list of user numbers WETE wie pressing buttons and the people whose prints they correspond to in the on the keypad watch the LCD screen to make glove compartment of your car for handy reference Apra teh registered FICS Biometrics 4 5 Press ENTER e If the number is three digits long the syste
7. r print has been stored it will remain in the system s memory until it is manually removed and should be recognized when placed on the scanner window Placing a previously stored fingerprint on the scanner should cause the door to unlock and the ignition to be enabled You will have two minutes after this point to press the ignition button before the ignition times out 1 Lightly place finger on the scanning window positioned as closely as possible to the original placement of your finger see Figure 1 in Storing A Print 2 Leave finger on scanner till driver door lock pops up e If there is no response within ten seconds remove finger wait for ten seconds and retry e If there is still no response refer to Troubleshooting Guide on page 7 FICS Biometrics 6 Deleting Prints You can choose to delete one specific print or all the prints stored in memory If you wish to delete only one specific print you will need the user ID number associated with it Deleting All Prints 1 Make sure that FICS BIOMETICS is being displayed on 11 2 3 Isr the LCD display If it is not press RESET 2 Press DELETE e You will now be prompted to enter your authorization number 3 Enter authorization number and press ENTER e If the authorization number was incorrectly entered INCORRECT AUTH appears on the display and the system returns to the main menu e If the authorization number was correctly entered the LCD wil
8. shboard just above the keypad is your indication of the status of the system at any given time For the two minutes that the ignition is enabled this little screen will display a message to that effect For storage and deletion purposes this screen will prompt and steer you through the process Instructions on these operations are on pages 2 6 of this manual Organization of This Document In this manual we have established some particular formatting conventions e Name of buttons and controls are underlined and written in all capital letters like this STORE e Messages displayed on the LCD screen are written in bold italics IGNITION There is a detailed section at the beginning of this manual with instructions on storing scanning and deleting user s fingerprints This is followed by a section with care and maintenance instructions and if followed carefully the tips in this portion can help ensure that your fingerprint access system will work to make your life convenient and secure for years to come The last section is a troubleshooting section for you to consult before calling for professional help FICS Biometrics 3 Storing A Print To store a new fingerprint in the system the person whose finger is to be scanned needs to be outside the driver s side door There is a twelve second window of time after the pressing of the YES button during which the scanner will wait for the presence of a finger on its scanning window O
