1. RIB Mercury Outboard Operating Instructions Before Use 1 Check there is sufficient PETROL in the RIB fuel tank top up as necessary with Unleaded Petrol from the correct storage can 2 Check BATTERY connections amp turn on the Red Battery Isolation Switch 3 Check the FUEL pipe primer bulb is firm and there are no fuel leaks check the gear lever is in neutral check the lanyard stop switch is set 4 Turn ignition key to ON amp check both power trim tilt switches 1 on the throttle lever amp 1 on the engine are functional and the engine is down Turn ignition key to OFF 5 Check the STEERING is free and no connections are loose 6 Remove cowl by pulling rear lever and lifting off and check the engine OIL LEVEL with the Dip Stick 7 Note there are emergency starting tools and cord inside the cowl 8 Fit the water ear muffs over the cooling water intakes turn on the water just sufficiently does not require full pressure NEVER START THE ENGINE WITHOUT AVAILABLE COOLING WATER 9 Start the engine with the ignition key to ON amp then to START the flat fast idle lever on the control box can be lifted if required check for a stream of COOLING WATER squirting out of the rear of the engine and dribbling from the centre propeller exhaust when started 10 Allow the engine to warm up at idle speed for 3 minutes do not fast rev the engine ensure everybody is clear of the propeller and check the forward and reverse gears2. function 11 Stop engine with the ignition key to OFF refit the cowl by fitting front first and pressing down on the rear remove the water ear muffs 12 Note The Mercury Outboard Management amp Warning System will sound warning beeps and or reduce the power output if there is a malfunction of the engine operating system a continuous six second beep indicates a critical condition and you should return to shore immediately intermittent short beeps for six seconds are not critical but must be reported A S A P A short beep when ignition is turned ON is normal
