Open damper or window to vent smell This will only lasta few hours Note Home owners generally prefer to op erate their heater with the chimney damper closed This will put all the heat into the room However there may be times you will desire the full flames of the HI heat setting but will find the heat output excessive You can open the chimney damper if you have one fully or partially to release some of the heat PIN WARNING Damper handle will be hot if heater has been running 1 STOP Read the safety information col umn 1 2 Make sure equipment shutoff valve is fully open 3 Turn control knob clockwise N to the OFF position 4 Wait five 5 minutes to clear out any gas Then smell for gas including near the floor If you smell gas STOP Follow B in the safety information column 1 If you don t smell gas go to the next step 14 OPERATING HEATER Continued Slightly depress and turn control knob counterclockwise to the PILOT position Keep control knob pressed in for five 5 seconds see Figure 15 Note You may be running this heater for the first time after hooking up to gas sup ply If so the control knob may need to be pressed in for 30 seconds or more This will allow air to bleed from the gas system With control knob pressed in press and release ignitor button This will light pi lot The pilot is attached to the burner If needed keep pressing ignit

Shutting Off Burners Only pilot stays lit You may shut off the burners and Keep the pilot lit by doing one of the following 1 Turn control knob clockwise A to the PILOT position 2 Use remote control manual OFF button 3 Set selector switch in the OFF position 17 1 OPTIONAL HAND HELD REMOTE OPERATION Note All remote control accessories must be purchased separately Follow instructions included with the remote control NOTICE You must light the pilot before using the hand held re mote control unit See Lighting Instructions on page 15 After lighting let pilot flame burn for about one minute Turn control knob to ON posi tion Adjust flame adjustment knob anywhere between HI and LO Slide the selector switch to the REMOTE position see Figure 20 Note The burner may light if hand held remote was on when selector switch was last turned off You can now turn the burner on and off with the hand held remote control unit IMPORTANT Do not leave the selector switch in the REMOTE or ON position when the pilot is not lit This will drain the battery HI LO Setting Pilot control knob Make sure switch is turned to OFF when lighting and REMOTE to use the remote Figure 20 Setting the Selector Switch Control Knob and Flame Adjustment BACKUP FUNCTION If the batteries of the Receiver are low the appliance can be switched on manually by moving the 3 posi tion

42. s are built more energy efficient than everNew materials increased insulation and new construction methods help reduce heat loss in homes Home owners weather strip and caulk around windows and doors to keep the cold air out and the warm air in During heating months home owners want their homes as airtight as possible While it is good to make your home energy efficient your home needs to breathe Fresh air must enter your home All fuel burning appliances need fresh air for proper combus tion and ventilation Exhaust fans fireplaces clothes dryers and fuel burning ap pliances draw air from the house to operate You must provide adequate fresh air for these appliances This will insure proper venting of vented fuel burning appliances PROVIDING ADEQUATE VENTILATION The following are excerpts from National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223 1 NFPA 54 Section 5 3 Air for Combustion and Ventilation All spaces in homes fall into one of the following ventilation classifications 1 Unusually Tight Construction 2 Unconfined Space The information on pages 4 through 6 will help you classify your space and provide adequate ventilation This heater shall not be installed in a confined space or unusually tight construction unless provisions are provided for adequate combustion and ventilation air Unusually Tight Construction The air that leaks around doors and windows may provide enough fresh air for combustion and ventilation
