1. 2 3 1 Detach the new thermostat s wallplate from the rest of the thermostat and position the wallplate on the wall according to the illustration below passing the labeled wires through the wire hole in the center of the wallplate 2 3 2 With the wallplate fa flush against the FA wall mark mounting holes with a pencil Mounting hole p 0 B Banaan aN ona o a ee rmes ws M sm Wallplate 7RR od 5S NS C O 2 3 3 Move the wallplate aside Drill the mounting holes using a 3 16 drill bit With a hammer tap the wall anchors provided in the package into the drilled holes 2 3 4 Position the wallplate on the wall again and screw the mounting screws into the wall anchors Do not use a power screwdriver you may damage your thermostat 10 2 4 Match and connect wires 2 4 1 Match each wire coming from the wall to its corresponding terminal as shown in the illustration below Insert each wire into the hole on the side of its matching terminal Using a screwdriver tighten the screw securely DO NOT REMOVE THE WIRE LABELS II No thermostat installation uses all of the wires shown below In most cases between 4 and 5 terminals are wired The remaining terminals will not be used OS O OEOODaDS 2 5 Install additional wiring for Heat Pumps only If your HVAC system does NOT include a Heat Pump continue to 2 6 If your HVAC system in

8. issing from your package call White Rodgers customer service at 1 877 654 9394 before returning the thermostat to your place of purchase 2 1 2 Answer questions about source of heating in your home v Do you have either oil or gas burning furnace v Do you have a Heat Pump and is it 1 stage or 2 stage v Do you have Hydronic Heating steam or hot water radiators or radiant floor heating To determine if you have a Heat Pump and or whether it is a 1 stage or 2 stage model see the Appendix on the last page of the Manual 1 3 Assemble tools You will need the following tools You may also need v Flat head screwdriver v Hammer v 2 AA alkaline batteries v Drill with 3 16 4 mm bit v Small pliers to bend wires 1 4 Turn off power to your heating and cooling system Typically this is achieved by flipping a switch on the outside of the furnace air handler to the OFF position A CAUTION 3 Part 2 Remove Old Thermostat and Install New Thermostat Do not disconnect wires from the old thermostat until you label all the wires according to this manual 2 1 Expose wires connected to old thermostat 2 1 1 After turning off power to your heating amp cooling system expose wallplate with wires and wire terminals The required steps vary depending on your old thermostat type Your old thermostat may consist of e 3 parts a cover base and wallplate or e 2 parts a cover and wallplate 3 Part u
9. nit 2 Part unit Cover Wallplate v The Cover This usually pulls off but is sometimes secured by a screw which must be loosened v The Base This either pulls off or needs to be removed by loosening screws under the cover v The Wallplate This is removed by loosening the screws that hold the thermostat to the wall 2 1 2 Loosen all screws holding the old thermostat s wallplate to the wall Do not disconnect the wires from terminals Allow the wallplate to hang loosely on the wires Wall opening Wallplate hanging on the wires meei TIP VY ignore wire colors There is no standard color code for thermostat wires VY ignore existing wire labels if they are present V Use the provided labels to label re label the thermostat wires V The new labels must remain on the wires at least until the installation process is complete v No two wires can have the same label 2 2 Label and disconnect the wires 2 2 1 Note you may see two types of wiring in the old thermostat 1 Wires leading from the wall to a terminal on the thermostat gt Om wall another jumper wire 8 2 Wires connecting one terminalto ___ C These don t have to be labeled 2 2 Label and disconnect the wires cont lf the OLD thermostat s terminal is wired into the wall Then label its wire with 2 2 2 Label each wire that comes out of the wall and attaches to and identified by this letter th
10. o Heat No Cool Blown fuse Replace fuse or reset 1 Press the MENU button and using the lt gt buttons scroll down until or No Fan tripped circuit breaker MORE OPTIONS is flashing Press OK breaker 2 Using the lt gt buttons advance the screens until option 5 is Furnace power Turn switch to ON displayed switch to OFF SP Use the buttons to adjust the actual temperature from 4 LO Furnace blower Replace door panel to 4 HI compartment door in proper position to 4 Press the DONE button or panel loose or engage safety interlock not properly or door switch installed Loose connection Tighten connections to thermostat or system Low Batteries Replace batteries Thermostat amp The thermometer can be Indoor adjusted 4 degrees a Thermometer See Temperature Display ay a ati Setting Disagree Adjustment in the Configuration Menu section No Display or Low Batteries Replace batteries no Backlight Continued 22 23 J Troubleshooting Guide continued Appendix Heat Pump Identification Reset Operation If a voltage spike or static discharge blanks out the display or Causes erratic thermostat operation you can reset the thermostat 1 How do know if have a Heat Pump by pressing all three buttons HOME and both gt simultaneously for 4 seconds This reset will restore your thermostat s initial factory setting e Check the documentation for your heating and cooling system or contact yo
11. on 4 4 Set keypad lockout To activate Press and hold the OK button for 3 seconds to lock the keypad The keypad lock icon will appear on the display To unlock Press and hold the OK button again for 3 seconds 20 4 5 Set change filter reminder The thermostat will display a reminder when it is time to change the air filter on your heating and cooling system 4 5 1 To adjust Change Filter reminder settings 1 2 3 4 Press the MENU button and using the buttons scroll down until MORE OPTIONS is flashing Press OK Press OK again to confirm the filter reminder setting is ON Using the buttons select the number of weeks until the next Change Filter reminder then press DONE button Change Filter message will display when it is time to change your filter 4 5 2 To reset the Change Filter reminder SIMULTANEOUSLY press both lt gt buttons for 3 seconds HOME SLEEP 21 4 6 Adjust actual temperature display Part 5 Troubleshooting Guide Your thermostat was accurately calibrated at the factory However if you would like the displayed temperature to read higher or lower than Problem Possible Cause Action the actual temperature you can adjust the displayed temperature i Temperature set 2 minute lockout No action needed should by 4 degrees point icon blinking enabled to protect stop blinking after l l 2 minut To adjust the actual temperature display seal asd N
12. select the settings anytime with one touch of a button 4 1 1 To set Home Sleep Away temperatures 1 Press the HOME SLEEP or AWAY button for 5 seconds until the screen changes 2 Using the O buttons set the desired temperature Press DONE Repeat the process for the remaining two Favorites 4 You ll need to set your favorites separately for cooling and heating For example you might set Away to 88 F in the summer and 55 F in the winter oo 4 1 2 Using your Favorite Temps 1 Press the FAVORITE TEMPS button Home Sleep or Away you want to use 2 Your favorite temperature will remain until you change it by pressing arrows or selecting another Favorite Temperature 4 2 Change batteries The thermostat displays battery life in three stages e Battery full a5 e Battery half full i e Battery one third full Change you need to replace batteries with 2 new alkaline AA batteries A CAUTION 4 3 Activate permanent auxiliary heat for Heat Pumps only Use this function to bypass the Heat Pump and use ONLY auxiliary heating This may be a comfortable solution for the coldest days but it typically leads to higher energy costs To activate the Permanent Auxiliary Heat 1 SIMULTANEOUSLY press both gt buttons for 3 seconds 2 The thermostat is now in Auxiliary Mode A symbol will flash in the lower left corner of the screen 3 Cancel the Auxiliary Mode by pressing the DONE butt
