BY MAXI MATIC 2 SLICE LONG SLOT GLASS TOASTER Model ECT 153 INSTRUCTION MANUAL Before operating your new appliance please read all instructions carefully and keep for future reference 1 IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS When using electrical appliances especially when children are present basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following e READ AND SAVE ALL INSTRUCTIONS Do not touch hot surfaces Use handles or knobs e To protect against electrical shock NEVER immerse the entire toaster or the electrical cord or plug in water or any other liquid e Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children e Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning e Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination repair or adjustment e The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries to the user e Donot use outdoors e Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter or touch hot surfaces e Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven e To disconnect turn any control to off then remove plug from wall outlet
4. al outlet USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN REMOVING YOUR ITEMS FROM THE TOASTER Whenever a preset function button is set the corresponding indicator light will illuminate CANCEL button may be used at any time to interrupt the toasting cycle BROWNING CONTROL GUIDE SETTING TOAST SHADE 1 2 LIGHT 3 5 MEDIUM 6 7 DARK ASTING TO 1 2 Insert the items into the toast slot Be sure that multiple slices do not overlap and the lever is in the up position Select your desired toast shade by setting the browning control While your items are being toasted you can see the cooking progress through the viewing window Push down the Pop up Lever locking it into position When finished the items will pop up from the toaster Unplug the toaster when done NOTE When selecting the Defrost Reheat or Bagel function you must press the toasting lever down before selecting one of these settings BAGEL SETTING Use to toast a wide variety of different bagels and is for single side toasting only the center inner heating elements will function 1 Insert bagels into the toasting slots NOTE Slice bagel into two halves and place each half into the toast slot DO NOT INSERT A WHOLE BAGEL INTO THE TOAST SLOT Select your desired toast shade by setting the browning control Push down the Pop up Lever locking the bagel into position Press the BAGEL button When finished the
5. bagel will pop up from the toaster Unplug the toaster when done REHEAT SETTING Can reheat bread waffles bagels etc without toasting the items Insert items into the toasting slot HOW TO USE CONT 2 There is no need to adjust the browning control knob 3 Push down the Pop up Lever locking it into position 4 Press the REHEAT button When finished the items will pop up from the toaster 5 Unplug the toaster when done Notes on Specialty Uses The following breads and pastries should be warmed using the Defrost button Frozen Waffles Pancakes French Toast and Frozen Bagels Toaster pastries Exercise caution with toaster pastries the filling can become quite hot long before the surface of the pastry Tips becomes browned Never leave toaster pastries unattended while toasting or warming DEFROST SETTING Uses a slightly longer toasting cycle to prepare your favorite frozen pastries 1 Insert the frozen items into the toast slot 2 Select your desired toast shade by setting the browning control NOTE This setting already uses a Slightly longer cycle for defrosting 3 Push down the Pop up Lever locking items into position 4 Press the DEFROST button 5 When finished the items will pop up from the toaster 6 Unplug the toaster when done e When the Defrost Reheat or Bagel buttons are pressed the relevant indicator lights up and remains illuminated until th

8. e toast cycle is complete or until the Cancel button is pressed e Never force foods into the toasting slot Foods should fit freely between the guide wires e Uneven toasting is usually due to bread slices of uneven thickness CAUTION The wide toast slot helps to accommodate a variety of different bread widths as well as muffins tea cakes crumpets and bagels However you should not force items into the slot which are clearly too large If an item does become jammed switch toaster off and unplug from outlet immediately Once cooled turn toaster upside down and gently shake to remove whatever is stuck Do not insert sharp or metal objects such as knives or forks as this may damage the heating element Do not attempt to dislodge items while the toaster is operation or when it is plugged into an electrical outlet doing so will lead to serious personal injury Toasting is a combination of cooking and drying the bread Different types of bread have different moisture levels which can result in varying toasting times For slightly dry bread use a lower setting than you normally would For very fresh bread or whole wheat bread use a higher setting than normal Thickly cut pieces of bread including bagels will take longer to toast sometimes significantly longer since more moisture must be evaporated from the bread before toasting can occur Very thick pieces may require two cycles When toasting raisin or other fru
9. each use Simply wipe the exterior of the toaster with a clean damp soapy cloth NOTE Do not apply any cleaning agent directly onto the toaster To remove any pieces of bread stuck inside the toaster turn the toaster upside down and shake gently Never insert any hard or sharp instrument into the slots as this could damage the toaster and cause a safety hazard Dry all parts thoroughly before re assembling for storage or for use Never wrap the cord around the sides of the toaster Wrap the cord around the storage cleats found beneath the toaster The crumb tray should be emptied regularly as a a build up of crumbs could be a potential fire hazard First make sure the toaster is completely shut off unplug it from the electrical outlet and allow it to cool down thoroughly The crumb tray is located on the bottom of the side opposite of the control panel Slide out the crumb tray discard the crumbs and wipe the tray clean with a dry or damp cloth and wipe the crumb trays clean Always make sure the crumb trays are completely dry before re inserting them into the toaster Cleaning the Removable Glass Panel The centre front of the toaster has a full view glass window which lets you monitor the toasting progress The inner panel of this window is removable Hold the toaster with one hand and lightly tilt it backwards With the other hand press the latch at the underside and gently pull out th
