In this position fresh meat can be stored for 1 2 days at most Further hints for getting the best out of your refrigerator are as follows Cooked foods cold dishes jellies etc should be well covered Fruit and vegetables should be washed before being stored Raw meat of all types including poultry should be stored in plastic bags Mobile shelves grids The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series of runners so that the shelves grids can be positioned as desired Fig 6 Furthermore the upper shelf can be tilted as in Fig 7 This will make a handy bottle rack for wines and beverages Chilling of drinks The chilled drinks container located on the inner door of the refrigerator compartment can be easily removed from its runners when it has to be refilled To get a drink all you have to do is press the glass against the arms of the dispenser tap When you remove the glass the tap automatically stops dispensing As far as cleaning of the chilled drinks container is concerned it should be left to stand filled with hot water and then rinsed several times To ensure thorough cleaning of the container it is a good idea to add a tablespoonful of bicarbonate of soda to the water The tap should be turned off and on several times so as to free it of any sugar deposits that may have formed After this

INSTRUCTION BOOK DEPT LIBRARY MASTER COPY ZANUSSI Instructions for use and care of ZF 67 44 Frost free refrigerator freezer 3 Important Your new appliance is easy to use Nevertheless to get the best results it is important that you read this booklet very carefully and follow all the instructions before using the appliance for the first time The booklet provides exact instructions for installation operation and maintenance and in addition also supplies some useful hints If this appliance equipped witlt i magnetic door seals replaces an older appliance featuring a spring lock mechanical latch on the door or lid please ensure that this lock is made completely unusable before throwing out the old appliance This will prevent it from becoming a death trap for a child It is most important that this instruction book should be retained with the appliance for future reference Should the appliance be sold or transferred to another owner or should you move house and leave the appliance always ensure that the book is supplied with the appliance in order that the new owner can be acquainted with the functioning of the appliance and the relevant warnings Refrigeration Warnings THESE WARNINGS ARE PROVIDED IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY YOU MUST READ THEM CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING OR USING THE APPLIANCE This appliance is designed to be operated by adults Children should not

4. be allowed to tamper with the controls or play with the product Any electrical work required to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified electrician e This product should be serviced by an authorised Zanussi Network Service Centre and only genuine Zanussi spare parts should be used e It is dangerous to alter the specifications or modify the product in any way e Care must be taken to ensure that the appliance does not stand on the electrical supply cable e Zanussi domestic refrigerators and fridge freezers are designed to be used specifically for the storage of edible foodstuffs only Frozen food must not be re frozen once it has been thawed out e Manufacturers storage recommendations should be strictly adhered to Refer to relevant instructions There are working parts in this product which heat up Always ensure that there is adequate ventilation as a failure to do this will result in component failure and possible food loss See installation instructions e Parts which heat up should not be exposed Wherever possible the back of the product should be against a wall e Before any cleaning or maintenance work is carried out be sure to switch off the appliance and unplug The inner lining of the appliance consists of channels through which the refrigerant passes If this should be punctured this would damage the appliance beyond repair and cause food loss DO NOT USE SHARP INSTR
5. depends on Room temperature How often the door is opened The quantity of food stored in the refrigerator Location of appliance As in the case of the freezer it might be necessary to turn the knob to higher settings to obtain a lower refrigeration temperature or vice versa to lower settings to increase the refrigeration temperature When the refrigerator is set for the coldest temperatures with a high surrounding room temperature it will probably be in constant use with consequent frosting of the back wall of the compartment If this does in fact happen the knob should be set to obtain a slightly higher temperature In this way the refrigerator automatically defrosts with a considerable energy saving To stop operation simply turn knob C Fig 4 to position 10 Storage of foods in refrigerator compartment To achieve the best results with the refrigerator compartment you should follow one or two very simple rules Do not put warm foods or evaporating liquids in the refrigerator Cover or wrap foods particularly if they have a strong smell or contain aromatic herbs Do not cover the shelves grids with paper or plastic since this blocks circulation of air in the compartment In addition foods should be positioned inside the refrigerator compartment as indicated in Fig 5 1 Cold cuts cheese butter milk 2 Meat and fish 3 Fruit and vegetables Fig 5
6. not store products for longer than e time specified by the food manufacturer In addition if the freezer has been out of use for some time before putting the products in the compartment let the freezer run for at least two hours on the quick freeze SUPER setting After this reset the freezer for normal storage use Avoid opening the door too frequently and when you do open it leave it open only for as long as is strictly necessary A word of warning about ice lollies they should not be eaten straight out of the freezer as this might cause cold burns If there happens to be a power failure do not open the freezer door If the freezer is completely full frozen products will not be affected Otherwise they should be used up very quickly Thawing Before being used deep frozen and frozen foods can be thawed out either in the refrigerator compartment or at room temperature depending on the time available for this operation Small pieces of food such as hamburgers cutlets chips and fish fingers for example can be cooked straight out of the freezer without any intermediate thawing operation Clearly cooking time will be marginally longer than in the case of thawed foods Use of the refrigerator Operation Turn knob C Fig 4 to a setting between 4 and 6 which is usually the most appropriate However the exact setting should be chosen keeping in mind that the temperature inside the refrigerator
7. the container should then be emptied and rinsed with fresh water 12 Defrosting of freezer and refrigerator The inner walls of the freezer are automatically defrosted approximately every 24 hours when the appliance is operating in the storage mode When on the other hand the appliance is operating in the quick freeze mode defrosting takes place every 8 hours Naturally this period may vary slightly since it depends on room temperature the number of times the door is opened the amount of food stored and the place in which the appliance is positioned In the case of the refrigerator the evaporator of the refrigerator compartment is automatically defrosted every time the compressor stops operating The water produced by defrosting flows away in the case of both the freezer and refrigerator compartments through special drainage grooves in the two areas to two containers positioned in the back of the refrigerator freezer above the compressors Fig 8 where it then evaporates SU ss We particularly recommend that you periodically clean the defrost water drainage outlet located in the center of the drainage groove Fig 9 in the refrigerator compartment to prevent the defrost water from overflowing on to foods stored in the compartment As regards this we further recommend use of a flexible device such as a drinking straw which is ideal to facilitate the drainage operation Door reversibilit

9. els featuring this device Fig 4 Use of the freezer The freezer compartment of this model is of the frost free type This means that no frosting occurs on the inner walls of the compartment or on food during operation The absence of frosting is achieved by constant circulation of cold air inside the compartment produced by an automatic fan blower The freezer is marked with the symbol which means that the compartment is suitable for freezing ds and for long term storage of t uzen foods Operation of freezer For correct storage of frozen and deep frozen foods freezer temperature should be at least 18 C or colder To do this we recommend that you turn knob B to an intermediate position The freezer s temperature is thus automatically set for good food storage If the appliance is being used in abnormal conditions e g poor ventilation high or low room temperature and or frequent opening of appliance s door the setting must be adjusted accordingly In these cases knob B must be turned to the higher settings to obtain a lower temperature or to the lower settings to obtain a her temperature Freezer operation can be halted by turning knob B Fig 4 to position Important Tf the timer controlling the cooling cycle is on the defrost setting the motocompressor of the freezer does not start before defrosting has ultimated approx 30 minutes This may occur wh
10. en the appliance is first installed or when the user starts up the refrigerator after an idle period Quick freezing Turn knob A Fig 4 to position S SUPER The pilot light E will then light up Thermometer for models featuring this device This indicates the average temperature of foods stored in the freezer compartment If the door is opened too often or is left open for too long there might be a slight variation in the temperature indicated There will be marked variations if the quantity of food frozen at any one time exceeds the maximum indicated on the rating plate Warning light F Fig 4 This light warns when the temperature inside the freezer compartment has increased so much as to jeopardize the preservation of foods in the compartment When the appliance is switched on for the first time or when foods are placed in the compartment for freezing this light remains on until the temperature has reached the level required for correct storage Freezing of fresh foods To quick freeze foods when the appliance has not been in use switch on the freezer and let it run on the quick freeze setting for at least three hours before putting the food to be frozen in the compartment If instead the appliance is already in operation it should run on the quick freeze setting for at least 24 hours before the foods are put in the freezer compartment Once the foods have been placed in the freez
11. er the freezing operation can be considered to be complete 24 hours later Once freezing is complete the freezer should be reset for normal storage use Food to be frozen has to be placed in the bottom basket The maximum amount of food which is freezable in 24 hours is 12 kg If the entire amount of food to be frozen does not fit into the bottom basket the remaining food may be placed in the basket immediately above as long as the maximum amount is not exceeded To help you get the best out of the freezing process here are a few hints Freeze only good quality fresh and well cleaned foods Split them into small portions to a speed up freezing and b avoid having to thaw more food than you require It is in fact important to remember that once the foods have thawed out they deteriorate fast Another point to remember is that lean foods keep better and longer than fatty foods Salt too reduces storage time Wrap the foods in foil or polythene film ensuring that the wrapping adheres closely to the food and is well sealed In this way by avoiding contact with air the colour flavour and nutritional value of the foods remain intact You should never freeze all at once a greater quantity of foods than the maximum indicated on the appliance s rating plate During the freezing process do not add further foods for freezing and do not open the freezer door The foods for freezing should not be placed in contac

13. rush or a vacuum cleaner This latter operation 1 maintain the appliance s excellent ndards of performance and save energy When appliance is not used During periods when the appliance is not used you should take the following precautions Remove the plug from the wall socket Remove all food from the appliance Defrost and clean the interior and all accessories Leave the doors slightly open thus letting air circulate and preventing the formation of mould and unpleasant smells Interior light 2 light inside the refrigerator compartment is easy to get at All you have to do is to pull out the press in lamp fitting or otherwise in the case of some models remove the lamp from the fitting itself If the light does not go on when the door is open check that it is screwed into place properly If it still does not light up change the bulb Servicing What to do if the appliance is not working properly If something is not working properly check that The plug is firmly pushed into the wall socket and that the mains power switch is on There has not been a power failure The control knobs are in the right position In addition If the appliance seems unduly noisy check that the sides are not touching furniture that can set off noise and vibration Also check that the piping of the refrigerant system does not vibrate If your appliance is still not working properly after having checked all these poin

15. t with already frozen foods but put in the special freezing compartments This will stop the temperature of already frozen foods from rising Never put fizzy drinks in the freezer as they might well burst In addition never put hot foods or liquids in the freezer compartment and take care not to fill recipients up to the brim if they are covered with a lid It is a good idea to mark the packs ur the cards on the sliding drawers if your model has them with the date on which freezing started so that you can keep a check on storage periods If accidental thawing occurs due to a power cut for example the foods must be used up very quickly or else cooked immediately and refrozen If however the power failure is relatively brief from 6 to 8 hours and the freezer compartment is packed full the frozen foods will not suffer any damage On the inner freezer door you will find schematic drawings of foods and animals indicating maximum storage time in months possible from the time of freezing Storage of commercially frozen foods Gross storage capacity 310 Litres To get the best out of your freezer besides doing everything indicated for freezing foods in the case of storage of commercially frozen foods you should ensure that the products have been correctly stored by the retailer that there is only a very short time between when you purchase the products and when you put them in the freezer u do

18. y Fig 10 Before any door reversal operations remove the mains plug from the wall socket To reverse the door proceed as follows Remove base grille 2 Remove lower hinge 1 and door Unscrew pin A and rescrew it into hole B Dismantle middle hinge 3 and upper door Unscrew pin 4 and rescrew it into hinge on opposite side Fig 10 Refit upper door and middle hinge on opposite side Refit lower door and hinge 1 on opposite side Turn base grille upside down and refit it Remove handles 5 6 and refit them on opposite side Door panelling for model equipped with door frames Fig 11 To fit door panels go through the following steps Take off the removable part of the door frame on the opposite side from the handle removing the screws that secure it Partially loosen all the screws securing the door frame Slide the door panel into the side without a frame and push it right in Refix the frame to the door including the side removed at the beginning The size of the panel should be 1 2 mm less than that of the door all round and it should have a maximum thickness of 4 mm Maintenance Before carrying out any maintenance operation always disconnect the plug from the wall socket Periodical cleaning Wash the interior of the appliance with lukewarm water and bicarbonate of soda Clean the outer casing with a silicon wax spray The condenser and compressor should be cleaned using a b
