2. stabilizer if available to prevent the fuel tank from rusting and the fuel from deteriorating Perform the following steps to pro tect the cylinders piston rings etc from corrosion a Remove the spark plug caps and spark plugs b Pour a teaspoonful of engine oil into each spark plug bore c Install the spark plug caps onto the spark plugs and then place the spark plugs on the cylinder head so that the electrodes are grounded This will limit spark ing during the next step d Turn the engine over several times with the starter This will coat the cylinder walls with oil WARNING To prevent dam age or injury from sparking make sure to ground the spark plug electrodes while turning the engine over EWA10951 MOTORCYCLE CARE AND STORAGE 2 Fill up the fuel tank and add fuel e Remove the spark plug caps from the spark plugs and then install the spark plugs and the spark plug caps Lubricate all control cables and the pivoting points of all levers and pedals as well as of the side stand centerstand Check and if necessary correct the tire air pressure and then lift the motorcycle so that both of its wheels are off the ground Alterna tively turn the wheels a little every month in order to prevent the tires from becoming degraded in one spot Cover the muffler outlet with a plastic bag to prevent moisture from entering it Remove the battery and fully charge it

5. 1 Clean the motorcycle with cold wa ter and a mild detergent after the engine has cooled down NOTICE Do not use warm water since it increases the corrosive action of the salt tecato791 2 After drying the motorcycle apply a corrosion protection spray on all metal including chrome and nick el plated surfaces to prevent cor rosion After cleaning 1 Dry the motorcycle with a chamois or an absorbing cloth 2 Use a chrome polish to shine chrome aluminum and stainless steel parts including the exhaust system Even the thermally in duced discoloring of stainless Steel exhaust systems can be re moved through polishing 3 To prevent corrosion it is recom mended to apply a corrosion pro tection spray on all metal including chrome and nickel plat ed surfaces 4 Use spray oil as a universal clean er to remove any remaining dirt 5 Touch up minor paint damage caused by stones etc 6 Wax all painted and chrome plat ed surfaces Avoid combination cleaner waxes many of which contain abrasives that may mar the paint or protective finish 7 Let the motorcycle dry completely before storing or covering it EWA11131 A WARNING Contaminants on the brakes or tires can cause loss of control Make sure that there is no oil or wax on the brakes or tires If necessary clean the brake discs and brake linings with a regular brake disc cleaner or ac etone and wash the tires with warm water and

8. etc is effective in preventing or reducing abrasions or lacerations e Never wear loose fitting clothes otherwise they could catch on the control levers footrests or wheels and cause injury or an accident e Always wear protective clothing that covers your legs ankles and feet The engine or exhaust sys tem become very hot during or af ter operation and can cause burns 2 2 A passenger should also observe the above precautions Avoid Carbon Monoxide Poisoning All engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide a deadly gas Breathing car bon monoxide can cause headaches dizziness drowsiness nausea confu sion and eventually death Carbon Monoxide is a colorless odor less tasteless gas which may be present even if you do not see or smell any engine exhaust Deadly levels of carbon monoxide can collect rapidly and you can quickly be overcome and unable to save yourself Also deadly levels of carbon monoxide can linger for hours or days in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas If you experience any symptoms of carbon monoxide poison ing leave the area immediately get fresh air and SEEK MEDICAL TREAT MENT e Do not run engine indoors Even if you try to ventilate engine exhaust with fans or open windows and doors carbon monoxide can rap idly reach dangerous levels Do not run engine in poorly venti lated or partially enclosed areas such as barns garages or ports Do not run engine ou

Clock ODO gt F TRIP To reset a tripmeter select it by push ing the SELECT switch and then push the reset switch for at least one second If you do not reset the fuel re serve tripmeter manually it will reset it self automatically and the display will return to the prior mode after refueling and traveling 5 km 3 mi INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL FUNCTIONS To set the clock lt S 1 Clock 1 Push the SELECT switch to change the display to the clock mode 2 Push the SELECT and reset switches together for at least two seconds 3 When the hour digits start flashing push the reset switch to set the hours 4 Push the SELECT switch and the minute digits will start flashing 5 Push the reset switch to set the minutes 6 Push the SELECT switch and then release it to start the clock Self diagnosis device 1 Engine trouble warning light 2 Error code display This model is equipped with a self diag nosis device for various electrical cir cuits If a problem is detected in any of those circuits the engine trouble warning light will come on or flash and the odome ter tripmeter clock display will indicate an error code If the odometer tripmeter clock display indicates any error codes note the code number and then have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle 4 6 ECA11590 NOTICE If the display indicates an error code the vehicle should be
