8. obtained NOTE It may be necessary to repeat Idle Speed Adjustment through Acceleration Check to ob tain correct adjustments 4 Follow instructions in Deceleration heck d DECELERATION CHECK 1 Allow engine to idle then squeeze Throttle l Trigger fully f 2 Allow engine to run at fuli speed for about 1 second 3 Release the Throttle Trigger to the idle posi tion and listen to the deceleration of the en 4 gine It must return to idle smoothly and i within 1 to 2 seconds i a If performance is satisfactory no further adjustments are neccessary b If the engine slowly or erratically returns to idle or idles erratically proceed to Mixture Adjustment Idle Speed Adjustment Screw D AIR FILTER NOTE A dirty air filter decreases the life and performance of the engine and increases fuel con sumption 1 Clean the Air Filter o Use Air Filter 952 701614 e Always after 5 tanks of fuel or 5 hours of operation whichever is less e More frequently in dusty conditions a Loosen the two Screws on the Air Filter Cover enough to remove the Cover from the Engine Figure 27 b Remove the Air Filter from the Cover Fig ure 27 c Wash Filter in soap and water d Squeeze Filter dry and replace in Cover Do not clean the air filter in gaso line or other flammable solvent to avoid cre ating a fire hazard e Reinstall the Air Filter Cover making sure th
9. the drive shaft housing supported to prevent the trim mer line from contacting any object 4 Keep others away when making carburetor adjustments B STARTER ROPE A WARNING Do not remove the retaining tab and screw to remove pulley The spring beneath the pulley is under tension and can fly out and cause seri ous injury If any part of pulley housing assem bly is damaged other than the rope do not use the tool Take it to your Authorized Service Dealer 1 Disconnect Spark Plug Wire Figure 24 2 Loosen the two Nose Cone Screws and remove Drive Shaft Housing from the Front Shroud Fig ure 24 3 Remove the six Front Shroud Screws with the small hex wrench provided Figure 24 4 Remove the Top Handle Screw and Nut and re move the Steel Spacer from the Rubber Bushing on the Handle Mount Figure 24 5 Separate the Front Shroud from the Engine Fig ure 24 6 Untie Rope around the Pulley Ratchet Figure 25 and pull the Rope out of the Pulley Housing 7 Position the Pulley Housing as shown in Figure 25 Hand turn the Pulley clockwise ek as far as it will go Then turn the Pulley counterclockwise 4 until the Pulley Notch is aligned with the Housing Notch Figure 25 Next turn the Pulley one com plete turn counterclockwise d until the notches are aligned again Top Handle Nut Screw Rubber Remove Front Shroud Screws Figure 24 8 Insert the small hex wrench into the hole formed by the

11. 570 A WARNING If engine has just been operated avoid touch ingthe muffler A hot m burns Lay the drive shaft on a clean sur face Avoid laying the shaft on the floor 17 fler can cause serious pround or on any other surface that may ave dirt or debris Even after wiping the shaft grease residue can pick up dirt parti gles that can cause damage or premature lure CAUTION LUTION Take care to avoid injuring your hands and fingers with broken wires when checking for damage or wiping the shaft A cloth not prevent broken wires from puncturing or tearing your skin 1 Loosen the Nose Cone screws and remove the Drive Shaft Housing from the Engine 2 Remove the Drive Shaft from the drive Shaft Housing Figure 28 3 Check the Drive Shaft for broken wires twists or kinks and replace if damage is found 4 Using a clean cloth wipe the surface of the Drive Shaft thoroughly to remove any old grease P ND o Apply a uniform coat of lube to the entire sur face of the Drive Shaft Inject the remaining contents of the tube into the top of the Drive Shaft Housing Replace Drive Shaft in the Drive Shaft Housing Tighten Screws securely Reassemble the Drive Shaft Housing and the Engine 18 NOTES F TROUBLE SHOOTING CHART CAUSE SYMPTOM REMEDY 1 Fill tank with correct fuel mixture 2 See Starting Instructions 3 Install n

ONE This tool will throw objects and cut Keep oth ers including children animals bystand ers and helpers at least 30 feet 10 meters away from the operator and tool Stop the engine if you are approached A WARNING DAMAGED TRIM MER HEAD Trimmer head parts that are chipped cracked or damaged in any other way can fly apart and cause serious injury Do not use place damaged parts before using the tool A LINE TRIMMER SAFETY 1 OPERATOR a Always wear a face safety shield or gog gles See Accessories b Always wear heavy long pants boots and gloves See Accessories Do not wear loose clothing jewelry short pants sandals or o barefoot Secure hair so it is above shoulder length Being fully covered will help protect you from pieces of toxic plants such as poison ivy thrown by the Trimmer Head which could be more of a hazard than touching the plant itself c Do not operate this tool when you are tired ill or under the influence of alcohol drugs or medication d Do not swing the tool with such force that you are in danger of losing your balance e Never start or run the engine inside a closed room or building Breathing exhaust fumes can kill f Keep handles free of oi and fuel 2 TOOL a Inspect the entire tool before each use Replace damaged parts Check for fuel leaks and make sure all fasteners are in place and se curely fastened b Use only 080 diameter WEED LINE Nev

Operate the engine at full throttle 2 Hold the trimmer head parallel to and above the grassy area 3 Tap the bottom of the trimmer head lightly on the ground one time See Fi 12 Approxi mately 2 inches of line will be advanced with each tap NOTE Always tap the trimmer head on a grassy area Tapping on surfaces such as concrete or asphalt can cause excessive wear to the trimmer ead NOTE If the line is worn down to two inches or less more than one tap will be required to obtain the most efficient line length A WARNING Use only 080 diameter WEED LINE Other sizes of line will not advance properly and can eause serious injury Do not use other materi als such as wire string rope ete Wire can break off during cutting and become a danger ous missile To Advance Line Tap Bottom Of Trimmer Head Line Limiter Cuts Line On Ground One To Proper Length Time Figure 12 12 C CUTTING METHODS A WARNING Use minimum speed and do not crowd the line when cutting around hard objects rock gravel fence posts etc which can damage the trimmer head become entangled in the line or be thrown causing a serious hazard The tip of the line does the cutting You will achieve the best performance and minimum line wear by not crowding the line into the cutting area The right and wrong way are shown in Figure 13 e The line will easily remove grass and weeds from around walls fences trees

Shroud as shown in Figure 2 b Position the Lock Nuts E in the hex open ings in the Front Shroud c Tighten the screws with the small hex wrench provided just enough to hold the hardware to gether while holding the Lock Nuts with your other hand d Remove the packing cover from the straight end of the Drive Shaft Housing if so equipped Note Make sure the Drive Shaft does not fall out of the Drive Shaft Housing Dirt on the Shaft will significantly reduce the life of the tool Ifthe Drive Shaft falls out of the Housing clean re lubricate And re install See Drive Shaft Lubrication in the Maintenance section e Align the bottom groove on the Drive Shaft Housing with the key on the inner lower wall of the Front Shroud opening f Turn the Arbor Shaft as necessary to align the square end of the Drive Shaft with the square inside the Front Shroud opening g Firmly push the Drive Shaft Housing into the Front Shroud opening until the Depth Groove is no longer visible about 1 1 2 inches Figure 2 h Tighten Screws A alternately with the small hex wrench until secure Figure 2 Drive Shaft noth Drive Shaft Groove Housing Key Groove Front Shroud peo Screw A A Depth Groove Lock Nut E Drive Shaft Housing Arbor Shaft Figure 2 2 ASSIST HANDLE a Align the Assist Handle above the Safety Label and below the Engin

Wait a few minutes and repeat procedure wit Choke at off position Figure 11 STARTING POSITION es X yA 7 HALF CHOKE N Figure 10 NOTES 10 D OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1 Bring the engine to cutting speed before enter ing the material to be cut a Do not run the engine at a higher speed than necessary The cutting line will cut efficiently when the engine is run at less than full throttle At lower speeds there is less engine noise and vibra tion The cutting line will last longer and will be less likely to weld onto the spool b If the Trimmer Head does not turn when the engine is in operation make sure the Drive Shaft Housing is properly seated in the Engine Shroud Refer to Assembly Drive Shaft Housing 2 Always release the Throttle Trigger and al low the engine to return to idle speed when not cutting 3 To stop engine a Release the Throttle Trigger b Move Ignition Switch to the Off position USING YOUR TRIMMER Face Shield 60 Foot 20 meter Hazard Zone Use Only Genuine WEED EATER Replacement Parts A WARNING THROWS OBJECTS The rapidly moving line causes objects to be thrown violently The shield will not provide complete protection to the operator or others The operator must wear a safety face shield or goggles Always wear heavy long pants and boots Keep others at least 30 feet 10 meters away A WARNING HAZARD Z
