ANDLE FUEL WITH CAUTION e Eliminate all sources of sparks or flame in cluding smoking open flames or work that can cause sparks in the areas where fuelis mixed poured or stored Mix and pour fuel in an outdoor area store fuel in a cool dry well ventilated place use an approved marked container for all fuel purposes Do not smoke while handling fuel or while operating the unit Do not fill fuel tank while engine is running Make sure the unit is properly assembled and in good operating condition e Avoid spilling fuel or oil Wipe up fuel spills before starting the engine e Move atleast 10 feet 3 meters away from fuel and fueling site before starting engine e Always store gasoline in a container ap proved for flammable liquids OPERATE YOUR UNIT SAFELY DANGER RISK OF CUT KEEP HANDS AWAY FROM BLADE Blade moves momentarily after the trigger is re leased Do not attempt to clear away cut ma terial when the blade is in motion Make sure the switch is in the OFF position the spark plug wire is disconnected and the blade has stopped moving before removing jammed material from the cutting blade Do not grab or hold the unit by the cutting blade e Inspect unit before each use for worn loose missing or damaged parts Do not use until unit is in proper working order Keep outside surfaces free from oil and uel Never start or run engine inside a closed room or building Breathing exhaust fumes can kill Avo

NTY RIGHTS AND OB LIGATIONS The U S Environmental Protection Agency California Air Resources Board and ELECTROLUX HOME PROD UCTS INC are pleased to explain the emis sions control system warranty on your year 2002 2004 small off road engine In Califor nia all new small off road engines must be designed built and equipped to meet the State s _ stringent anti smog standards ELECTROLUX HOME PRODUCTS INC must warrant the emission control system on your small off road engine for the periods of time listed below provided there has been no abuse neglect or improper maintenance of your small off road engine engine Your emis sion control system includes parts such as the carburetor and the ignition system Where a warrantable condition exists ELECTRO LUX HOME PRODUCTS INC will repair your small off road engine engine at no cost to you Expenses covered under warranty in clude diagnosis parts andlabor MANUFAC TURER S WARRANTY COVERAGE If any emissions related part on your engine as listed under Emissions Control Warranty Parts List is defective or a defectin the mate rials or workmanship of the engine causes the failure of such an emission related part the part will be repaired or replaced by ELEC TROLUX HOME PRODUCTS INC OWN ER S WARRANTY RESPONSIBILITIES As the small off road engine engine owner you are responsible for the performance of the required maintenance listed in your in struction manua

8. e e Never attempt to use this hedge trimmer to cut hedges that have any branches with a diameter larger than 7 16 OPERATING POSITION Hearing Protection STOPPING YOUR ENGINE e To stop the engine move the ON OFF switch to the OFF position STARTING YOUR ENGINE e Fuel engine Move at least 10 feet 3 me ters away from the fueling site e Hold the unit on the ground in the starting position as shown Support unit so the blade is off of the ground and away from trees bushes onlookers etc STARTING A COLD ENGINE ora warm engine after running out of fuel Throttle Lock ee Throttle i Lock out Throttle Trigger 1 Move the ON OFF switch to the ON posi tion 2 Engage the throttle lock as follows e press the throttle lock out e squeeze and hold throttle trigger e press and hold throttle lock then e release the throttle trigger NOTE Keep the throttle lock engaged until the engine starts ON OFF u _ Switch LS A 3 Slowly press the primer bulb 6 times 4 Move the choke lever to the FULLCHOKE position Primer Bulb 5 Pull starter rope handle sharply until en gine sounds as if it is trying to run but do not pull rope more than 6 times 6 Move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position 7 Pull starter rope sharply until the engine runs but no more than 6 pulls NOTE Ifthe engine doesn t start after 6 pulls at the HALF CHOKE position check to make sure t
9. e oil designed to be mixed at a ratio of 40 1 Poulan Weed Eater brand synthetic oil is recommended A 40 1 ratio is obtained by mixing 3 2 ounces 95 ml of oil with 1 gallon 4 liters of unleaded gaso line DO NOT USE automotive oil or boat oil These oils will cause engine damage When mixing fuel follow instructions printed on oil container Once oil is added to gasoline shake container momentarily to assure that the fuel is thoroughly mixed Always read and follow the safety rules listed under HANDLE FUEL WITH CAUTION IMPORTANT Experience indicates that alcohol blended fuels called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol can attract moisture which leads to separation and formation of acids during storage Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an engine while in storage To avoid engine problems empty the fuel system before storage for 30 days or longer Drain the gas tank start the en gine and let it run until the fuel lines and carbure tor are empty Use fresh fuel next season Never use engine or carburetor cleaner prod ucts in the fuel tank or permanent damage may occur OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS It is recommended that the engine not be operated for longerthan 30 secondsat full throttle Releasing the trigger and allowing the engine to briefly return to idle speed 5 10 seconds will be sufficient IMPORTANT POINTS e Use the minimum throttle speed necessary to effectively cut hedges for optimal hedge trimmer performanc
10. he ON OFF switch is in the ON position Move the choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position and press the primer bulb 6 times pull the starter rope 2 more times Move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position and pull the starter rope until the en gine runs but no more than 6 more pulls If the engine still doesn t start it is probably flooded Proceed to STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE 8 Once the engine starts allow the engine to run 10 seconds then move the choke lever to the OFF CHOKE position Allow the unit to run for 30 more seconds at the OFF CHOKE position before squeezing and releasing the throttle trigger to release the throttle lock NOTE If engine dies with the choke lever in the OFF CHOKE position move the choke le ver to the HALF CHOKE position and pull the ope until the engine runs but no more than 6 pulls STARTING A WARM ENGINE Move the ON OFF switch to the ON posi tion 2 Slowly press the primer bulb 6 times 3 Move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position 4 Engage the throttle lock as directed in STARTING A COLD ENGINE NOTE Keep the throttle lock engaged until the engine starts 5 Pull starter rope sharply until engine runs but no more than 5 pulls 6 Allow the engine to run 10 seconds then move the choke lever to the OFF CHOKE position 7 Release the throttle lock by squeezing and releasing the trigger NOTE If engine has not started pull starter rope 5 more pulls If e
11. he operator or others Idle Speed Screw ES N If you require further assistance or are unsure about performing this procedure contact an authorized service dealer or call 1 800 554 6723 REPLACE SPARK PLUG Replace spark plug each year to ensure the engine starts easier and runs better Set spark plug gap at 0 025 inch Ignition timing is fixed nonadjustable 1 Twist then pull off spark plug boot 2 Remove spark plug from cylinder and dis card 3 Replace with Champion RCJ 6Y spark plug and tighten securely with a 3 4 inch socket wrench 4 Reinstall the spark plug boot REPLACE FUEL FILTER To replace fuel filter drain unit by running it dry of fuel then remove fuel cap retainer assem bly from tank Pull filter from tank and remove it from the fuel line Install new fuel filter on fuel line reinstall parts Fuel Filter Fuel Line STORAGE WARNING Perform the following steps after each use Allow engine to cool and secure the unit before storing or transporting Store unit and fuel in a well ventilated area where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or open flames from water heaters electric motors or switches furnaces etc Store unit with all guards in place Position unit so that any sharp object cannot acci dentally cause injury Store unit and fuel well out of the reach of children SEASONAL STORAGE Prepare unit for storage at end of season or if it will not be used for 30 days o
12. iced or re placed by an authorized service dealer CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT A WARNING Keep others away when making idle speed adjustments The blade will be moving during most of this procedure Wear your protective equipment and observe all safety precautions When making adjust ments use a screwdriver short enough to keep your hands behind the handguard and away from the blade After making adjust ments the blade must not move at idle speed The carburetor has been carefully set at the factory Adjustments may be necessary if you notice any of the following conditions e Engine will not idle when the throttle is re leased e The blade moves at idle Keep others away when making idle speed adjustments Make adjustments with the unit resting on a level surface free of debris that can be caught in the hedge trimmer blade Serious injury to the operator and others can occur if the car buretor is not properly adjusted Keep all parts of your body away from the blade and muffler Idle Speed Adjustment Allow engine to idle Adjust speed until engine runs without blade moving idle too fast or en gine stalling idle speed too slow e Turn idle speed screw clockwise to in crease engine speedif engine stalls or dies e Turn idle speed screw counterclockwise to ae engine speed if the blade moves at idle Ba WARNING Recheck the idle speed after each adjustment The blade must not move at idle speed to avoid serious injury to t

14. it if fuel tank shows signs of damage or leaks INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND LABELS e Before and after each use inspect com plete unit for loose or damaged parts After each use clean the unit and labels using a damp cloth with a mild detergent e Wipe off unit with a clean dry cloth CLEAN AIR FILTER Air Filter Cleaning the air filter A dirty air filter decreases engine perform ance and increases fuel consumption and harmful emissions Always clean after every 5 hours of operation e Clean the cover and the area around it to keep debris from falling into the carburetor chamber when the cover is removed Remove parts as illustrated NOTE Donotclean filter in gasoline or other flammable solvent Doing so can create a fire hazard or produce harmful evaporative emis sions e Wash the filter in soap and water e Allow filter to dry e Add a few drops of oil to the filter squeeze filter to distribute oil e Replace parts INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK ARRESTING SCREEN A WARNING The muffler on this prod uct contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer As your unit is used carbon deposits build up on the muffler and spark arresting screen and must be removed to avoid creating a fire haz ard or affecting engine performance For normal homeowner use the muffler and spark arresting screen will not require any service After 50 hours of use we recom mend that your muffler be serv

18. nual for future reference Muffler N Primer Bulb ON OFF SWITCH The ON OFF SWITCH is used to stop the en gine To stop engine move switch to OFF CHOKE The CHOKE helps to supply fuel to the engine to aid in cold starting Activate the choke by moving choke lever to the desired position See STARTING YOUR ENGINE for complete start ing information ON OFF Switch Throttle Lock out Throttle Trigger Choke Laver Fuel Mix Fill Cap PRIMER BULB The PRIMER BULB removes air from the car buretor and fuel lines and fills them with fuel This allows you to start the engine with fewer pulls on the starter rope Activate the primer bulb by pressing it and allowing it to return to its original position THROTTLE TRIGGER The THROTTLE TRIGGER controls engine speed Squeeze the trigger for full speed opera tion release it for idle speed A WARNING Muffler is very hot during and after use Do not touch the muffler or al low combustible material such as dry grass or fuel to do so BEFORE STARTING ENGINE WARNING Be sure to read the fuel information in the safety rules before you be gin If you do not understand the safety rules do not attempt to fuel your unit Call 1 800 554 6723 FUELING ENGINE A WARNING Remove fuel cap slowly when refueling This engine is certified to operate on un leaded gasoline Before operation gasoline must be mixed with a good quality synthetic 2 cycle air cooled engin
19. r more If your unit is to be stored for a period of time e Clean the entire unit e Store in a clean dry area e Clean all parts and check for damage Have damaged parts repaired or replaced by an authorized service dealer e Keep all nuts bolts and screws tight e Lightly oil external metal surfaces includ ing the blade To oil the blade do the following e Stop the engine and allow blade to come to a complete stop e Ensure ON OFF switch is in the OFF posi tion e Disconnect the spark plug wire e Apply a light machine oil along the edge of the top strap as shown OIL Top Strap ps A FUEL SYSTEM Under FUELING ENGINE in the OPERA TION section of this manual see message la beled IMPORTANT regarding the use of ga sohol in your engine Fuel stabilizer is an ac ceptable alternative in minimizing the formation of fuel gum deposits during storage Add stabi lizer to gasoline in fuel tank or fuel storage con tainer Follow the mix instructions found on sta bilizer container Run engine at least 5 minutes after adding stabilizer ENGINE Remove spark plug and pour 1 teaspoon of 40 1 2 cycle engine oil air cooled through the spark plug opening Slowly pull the starter rope 8 to 10 times to distribute oil Replace spark plug with new one of recom mended type and heat range see RE PLACE SPARK PLUG section Clean air filter Check entire unit for loose screws nuts and bolts Replace any
