1. NEVER replace the auger 4 Remove the four screws which secure the friction shear pins with anything wheel s side plates together Figure 6 16 other than OEM Part No 738 04124A replacement shear pins Any damage to the auger gearbox or other components as a result of failing to do so will NOT be covered by your snow thrower s warranty Off Season Storage WARNING Never store snow thrower with fuel in tank indoors or in poorly ventilated areas where fuel fumes may reach an open flame spark or pilot light as on a furnace water heater clothes dryer or gas appliance Fuel left in engine during warm weather deteriorates and will cause serious starting problems Never use engine or carbu retor cleaning products in the fuel tank or permanent damage may occur If the snow thrower will not be used for 30 days or longer or if it is the end of the snow season when the last pos sibility of snow is gone the equipment needs to be stored properly Follow storage instructions below to ensure top performance from the snow thrower for many more years Preparing Engine NOTE Refer to the engine manual for more detailed information on preparing the snow thrower engine for storage Short Term Storage It is important to prevent gum deposits from forming in essential fuel system parts of the engine such as the carburetor fuel filter fuel hose or tank during short term storage 15 30 days To prevent this treat th

7. avoid slipping or falling especially when operating in reverse Preparation Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment is to be used Remove all doormats newspapers sleds boards wires and other foreign objects which could be tripped over or thrown by the auger impeller Always wear safety glasses or eye shields during operation and while performing an adjustment or repair to protect your eyes Thrown objects which ricochet can cause serious injury to the eyes Do not operate without wearing adequate winter outer garments Do not wear jewelry long scarves or other loose clothing which could become entangled in moving parts Wear footwear which will improve footing on slippery surfaces Use a grounded three wire extension cord and receptacle for all units with electric start engines Adjust collector housing height to clear gravel or crushed rock surfaces Disengage all control levers before starting the engine Never attempt to make any adjustments while engine is running except where specifically recommended in the operator s manual Let engine and machine adjust to outdoor temperature before starting to clear snow To avoid personal injury or property damage use extreme care in handling gasoline Gasoline is extremely flammable and the vapors are explosive Serious personal injury can occur when gasoline is spilled on yourself or your clothes which can ignite Wash your

9. not release the handle and allow it to snap back Keep a firm hold on the starter handle and allow it to slowly recoil 5 As the engine warms slowly rotate the choke control to the OFF position If the engine falters quickly rotate the choke control back to the FULL position and then slowly into the OFF position again NOTE Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes after starting The engine will not develop full power until it reaches operating temperatures Stopping The Engine Run engine for a few minutes before stopping to help dry off any moisture on the engine Chute Clean Out Tool The chute clean out tool is conveniently fastened to the rear of the auger housing with a mounting clip Should snow and ice become lodged in the chute assembly during operation proceed as follows to safely clean the chute assembly and chute opening 1 Release both the Auger Control and the Drive Control 2 Stop the engine by removing the ignition key 3 Remove the clean out tool from the clip which secures it to the rear of the auger housing 4 Use the shovel shaped end of the clean out tool to dislodge and scoop any snow and ice which has formed in and near the chute assembly 5 Refasten the clean out tool to the mounting clip on the rear of the auger housing reinsert the ignition key and start the snow thrower s engine 6 While standing in the operator s position behind the snow thrower engage the auger control for a
10. shown for clarity Figure 6 3 To remove shave plate 1 Remove the carriage bolts and hex nuts which attach it to the snow thrower housing Reassemble new shave plate making sure heads of carriage bolts are to the inside of housing Tighten securely 14 Auger Belt Replacement To remove and replace your snow thrower s auger belt proceed as follows 1 Remove the plastic belt cover on the front of the engine by removing the two self tapping screws Figure 6 4 NOTE Drain the gasoline from the snow thrower or place a piece of plastic under the gas cap 2 Carefully pivot the snow thrower up and forward so that it rests on the auger housing Remove the frame cover from the underside of the snow thrower by removing four self tapping screws which secure it Figure 6 4 Figure 6 5 3 Roll the auger belt off the engine pulley Figure 6 6 4 a Loosen and remove the shoulder screw which acts as a belt keeper Figure 6 7 b Unhook the support bracket spring from the frame 5 Remove the belt from around the auger pulley and slip the belt between the support bracket and the auger pulley Figure 6 8 Reassemble auger belt by following instructions in reverse order NOTE Do not forget to reinstall the shoulder screw Figure 6 5 and reconnect the spring to the frame after install ing a replacement auger belt Figure 6 6 Figure 6 7 Figure 6 8 15 Maintaining Y

18. d warnings on the machine and in this manual before operating Never attempt to make any adjustments while the engine is running except where specified in operator s manual Auger Control Refer to Auger Control Test in Operation section to adjust the auger control Shift Cable If the full range of speeds forward and reverse cannot be achieved refer to the figures to the right and adjust the shift cable as follows 1 Place the shift lever in the fastest forward speed position 2 Loosen the hex nut on the shift cable index bracket Figure 5 1 3 Pivot the bracket downward to take up slack in the cable 4 Retighten the hex nut Drive Control When the drive control is released and in the disen gaged up position the cable should have very little slack It should NOT be tight nn the adjustment of the drive control as follows With the drive control released push the snow thrower gently forward The unit should roll freely Figure 5 1 2 Engage the drive control and gently attempt to push the snow thrower forward The wheels should not turn The unit should nat roll freely 3 With the drive control released move the shift lever back and forth between the R2 position and the F6 position several times There should be no resistance in the shift lever 4 If any of the above tests failed the drive cable is in need of adjustment Proceed as follows 5 Loosen the lower hex nut on the
19. drive cable bracket Figure 5 2 6 Position the bracket upward to provide more slack or Figure 5 2 downward to increase cable tension 7 Retighten the hex nut Chute Assembly The distance snow is thrown can be adjusted by chang ing the angle of the chute assembly To do so 1 Stop the engine by removing the ignition key and loosen the plastic wing knob found on the left side of the chute assembly 2 Pivot the chute upward or downward before retight ening the wing knob Figure 5 3 Figure 5 3 12 Skid Shoes The space between the skid shoes and the ground can be adjusted Figure 5 4 e For close snow removal on a smooth surface raise skid shoes higher on the auger housing e Use a middle or lower position when the area to be cleared is uneven such as a gravel driveway To adjust the skid shoes 1 Loosen the four hex nuts two on each side and carriage bolts Move skid shoes to desired position 2 Make certain the entire bottom surface of skid shoe is against the ground to avoid uneven wear on the skid shoes 3 Retighten nuts and bolts securely Chute Bracket Adjustment If the spiral at the bottom of the chute directional control is not fully engaging with the chute assembly the chute bracket can be adjusted To do so 1 Loosen the two nuts which secure the chute bracket and reposition it slightly Figure 5 5 2 Retightening the nuts Tire Pressure Before operating check ti
20. e fuel system using a fuel stabilizer Fuel stabilizer such as STA BIL or ULTRA FRESH is an acceptable alternative in minimizing the formation of fuel gum deposits during storage Add stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or storage container Always follow mix ratio found on stabilizer container Run engine at least 10 minutes after adding stabilizer to allow it to reach the carburetor ventilated areas where fuel fumes may reach an open flame spark or pilot light as on a furnace water heater clothes dryer or gas appliance methanol can attract moisture which leads to separation and formation of acids during storage Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an engine while in storage WARNING Never store snow thrower with fuel in tank indoors or in poorly CAUTION Alcohol blended fuels called gasohol or using ethanol or Long Term Storage To avoid engine problems the fuel system should be emptied before storage for 30 days or longer A warm weather deteriorates and will cause serious starting problems 1 Run the engine until the fuel tank is empty and it stops due to lack of fuel Do not attempt to pour fuel from the engine WARNING Fuel left in engine during WARNING Never use engine or carbu retor cleaning products in the fuel tank or permanent damage may occur 2 Remove the spark plug and pour one 1 ounce of engine oil through the spark plug hole into the cylinder Cover spark plu

32. our Snow Thrower Although multi viscosity oils 5W30 10W30 etc improve starting in cold weather these multi viscosity oils also result in higher oil consump tion when used above 32 F Check your snow thrower s engine oil level more frequently to avoid possible engine damage from running low on oil Do not sandblast spark plug Spark plug should be cleaned by scraping or wire brushing and wash ing with a commercial solvent NEVER replace the auger shear pins with standard pins Any damage to the auger gearbox or other components as a result of doing so will NOT be covered by your snow thrower s warranty Maintaining Your Snow Thrower NEVER replace the auger shear pins with anything other than OEM Part No 738 04124A replacement shear pins Any damage to the auger gearbox or other components as a result of failing to do so will NOT be covered by your snow thrower s warranty Figure 6 9 Figure 6 10 Augers The augers are secured to the spiral shaft with two shear pins and cotter pins If the auger should strike a foreign object or ice jam the snow thrower is designed so that the pins may shear Figure 6 2 If the augers will not turn check to see if the pins have sheared One set of replacement shear pins has been provided with the snow thrower When replacing pins spray an oil lubricant into shaft before inserting new pins Drive Belt Replacement To remove and replace your s

38. the auger housing 1 a Remove the frame cover from the underside of the snow thrower by removing four self tapping screws which secure it Figure 6 13 b Remove the right hand wheel by removing the screw and bell washer which secure it to the axle 2 Carefully remove the hex nut and washer which secures the hex shaft to the snow thrower frame and lightly tap the shaft s end to dislodge the ball bearing from the right side of the frame Figure 6 14 Figure 6 13 When reassembling the friction wheel assembly tighten each screw only one rotation before turning the wheel clockwise and proceeding with the next screw Repeat this process several times to ensure the plates are secured with 3 Carefully position the hex shaft downward and to the left before carefully sliding the friction wheel assembly off the shaft Figure 6 15 NOTE If you re replacing the friction wheel assembly as a whole discard the worn part and slide the new part Figure 6 14 Figure 6 15 17 Remove the rubber ring from between the plates Reassemble the side plates with a new rubber ring Slide the friction wheel assembly back onto the hex shaft and follow the steps above in reverse order to reassemble components Figure 6 16 onto the hex shaft Follow the steps above in reverse equal force order to reassemble components If you re disassem bling the friction wheel and replacing only the rubber ring proceed as follows
