P N 989201986 Rev B 1 3 VPCJ1 Series Hard Disk Drive Replacement Instructions Step 4 Using the enclosed magnetic screwdriver loosen the three 3 screws securing the Hard Drive Assembly These screws can not be completel removed They will stay enclosed in the assembly Step 5 Grasp the sides of the Hard Drive Assembly and lift Do not completely remove the assembly at this step Step 6 Carefully turn the Hard Drive Assembly over to disconnect the Data and Power Cables from the assembly To release the Data Cable push the metal tab and pull the Cable to the right To release the Power Cable just pull to the right Remove the assembly Hard Drive Disassembly Steps 7 12 Step 7 Identify the 4 side screws that secure the bracket to the Hard Drive Step 8 Holding the edge of the Hard Drive remove each screw Put aside the Bracket Screws to secure the Bracket to the Hard Dive later in the procedure ard Drive Step 9 Set the old Hard Drive aside New Hard Drive Step 10 Place the new Hard Drive next to the Hard Drive Bracket as shown Step 11 Place the Hard Drive bracket over the new Hard Drive 2 3 Step 12 Re install the four 4 Hard Drive Bracket screws to secure the Hard Drive bracket to the New Hard Drive SONY VPCJ1 Series Hard Disk Drive Replacement Instructions Hard Drive Reinstallation St2. SONY VPCJ1 Series Hard Disk Drive Replacement Instructions IMPORTANT PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU START These easy instructions will guide you through the Hard Drive replacement process v Before you begin place your computer on a clean or covered surface to avoid damage to the computer s case v Follow the ESD Electrostatic Discharge damage prevention instructions o Hold parts by the edges away from exposed circuitry when possible o Donot walk around excessively as this promotes static build up v Before you begin remove any jewelry you may be wearing to prevent scratches to the surface of your computer v The appearance of the electronic components shown in the illustrations may differ from the components shipped This slight difference does not affect the accuracy of these instructions Sony Is not responsible for damage caused by incorrect handling of the computer Prepare the Computer Stand Hard Drive Removal caution Make sure the Steps 2 6 computer is turned off and the AC Adapter is disconnected Failure to do Step 2 Using the enclosed magnetic i Step 3 Grasp the stand handle and so can result in damage to the screwdriver remove the four 4 screws pull upwards to remove the stand computer securing the stand Step 1 Place the computer upside down Put aside the Stand Screws to re on a protected surface with the front secure the Stand later in the edge facing you procedure
3. ep 14 Carefully turn the Hard Drive Step 15 Re install the three 3 Hard Steps 14 18 Assembly over and insert it into the Drive Screws holding the Hard Drive Step 13 Reconnect the Hard Drive Hard Drive Bay Hold the Hard Drive on Assembly in place Cables the sides to avoid damage Step 18 Reconnect the AC Adaptor Power on your computer and continue with the recovery process by following the instructions described on the back of the recovery disk s case Return the old Hard Drive to Sony using the included shipping instructions Step 16 Re install the stand Verify the Step 17 Re install the four 4 Hard sides are completely flush after Drive Screws to secure the stand installation P N 989201986 Rev B 3 3
