The handset will change to idle status and display the icon 43 Making calls Making an external call External calls are calls using the public phone network ma CN Enter the number and press the talk key Or CA M Press and hold the talk key N and then enter the number 10 You can cancel the dialling operation with the end call key 7 Note Dialling using the directory call by call list page 1 page 11 or last number redial list page 8 page 15 saves you from re enter ing numbers and network providers pre fixes call by call numbers You can program the keys of your phone with numbers from the directory page 18 With voice dialling you can dial numbers simply by saying the name page 14 End call Press the end call key Answering a call There are three ways of indicating incom ing calls ringing a display on the screen and the flashing handsfree key 7 To accept an incoming call gt Press the talk key or P Press the handsfree key 7 If the handset is in the charging cradle and the Auto Answer function is activated page 20 the handset will accept a call automatically when you lift it out of the cradle If the ringtone is intrusive press the display key SITA You can take the call so long as it is displayed on the screen Handsfree talking With handsfree talking instead of holding the handset to your ear you can put it d

Use only the rechargeable batteries recom mended by Siemens on page 28 Under no cir cumstances should you use a conventional non rechargeable battery or other battery types as this could cause significant damage to health and property e g the outer casing of the batteries could be destroyed or the batter ies could explode The phone could also mal function or be damaged as a result of using batteries that are not of the recommended type gt Fit the batteries with the correct polar ity see figure The polarity is indicated in on the battery compartment Closing the battery cover gt Position the cover so that the compart ment is only slightly open and push it up until it clicks into position Opening the battery cover b Press below the upper curve on the bat tery cover and slide down Registering your phone Before you can use your Gigaset 544 you must register it to a base station It can be registered to a maximum of four base sta tions The actual registration procedure will depend on the type of base station Automatic registration Gigaset S44 to Gigaset S440 S445 Important The handset must not already be registered to any base station The handset registers automatically to the Gigaset 5440 5445 base station b Place the handset in the base station with its display facing forward Registration takes about 1 minute During this process Regstr Procedure appears in the d
