LE INCLINE S Al SPEED v ia DG Coonan FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to make your workouts more effec tive and enjoyable When the manual mode of the con sole is selected the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button As you ex ercise the console will display continuous exercise feedback You can even measure your heart rate using the handgrip pulse sensor or the optional chest pulse sensor see page 22 for information about the optional chest pulse sensor In addition the console offers eight preset programs Each program automatically controls the speed and in Cline of the treadmill as it guides you through an effec tive workout You can even create custom workout pro grams and store them in memory for future use Two heart rate programs are also offered Each pro gram automatically adjusts the speed and incline of the treadmill to keep your heart rate near target heart rate 12 settings while you exercise Note The heart rate pro grams require the use of the optional chest pulse sen sor Whether you select the manual mode or a program you can enjoy the shows of your choice on the per sonal television while you get in shape To us

If heart rate program 9 is selected the target heart rate setting for the first seg ment will be shown in the flashing Current Segment column of the matrix The target heart rate settings for the next several segments will be shown in the columns to the right When only three seconds remain in the first segment of the program both the Current Segment column and the column to the right will flash and a series of tones will sound Current Segment Column When the first segment ends a target heart rate settings will move one column to the left The tar get heart rate setting for the second segment will then be shown in the flashing Current Segment column During both heart rate programs the console will regularly compare your heart rate to the target heart rate setting for the current segment If your heart rate is too far below or above the target heart rate setting the speed of the walking belt will automatically increase or decrease to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate set ting If the speed or incline setting is too high or too low at any time during the program you can adjust the 18 6 setting with the Speed or Incline buttons However when the console compares your heart rate to the target heart rate setting the speed of the treadmill may automatically change to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate setting If your pulse is not detected during the pro

4. at the right To purchase a surge suppressor see your local REEBOK dealer or call the toll free tele phone number on the front cover of this manual and order part number 146148 or see your local electronics store Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that is UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge sup pressor TVSS The surge suppressor must have a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps There must be a moni toring light on the surge suppressor to indicate whether it is functioning properly Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could result in damage to the control system of the treadmill If the control system is damaged the walking belt may change speed accelerate or stop unexpect edly which may result in a fall and serious injury This product must be grounded If it should malfunc tion or break down grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of elec 11 tric shock This product is equipped with a cord having an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances Important The treadmill is not compatible with GFCI equipped out
5. console assembly and locate the TV cable Console Remove the band securing the Upright TV Cable 104 to the left Upright 84 Connect the Upright TV Cable to the TV cable on the console assembly 5 Insert the Console Wire Harness 77 and the TV 5 cable into the Uprights 84 Console Assembly Set the console assembly on the Uprights 84 Be careful to avoid pinching the wires While a second person holds the console assembly at tach it with four Console Bolts 64 and four Star Washers 8 as shown start all four Console Bolts and then firmly tighten them 6 Attach the Latch Housing 73 to the left Upright 84 with two Screws 3 start both Screws and then tighten them Note Make sure that the large hole in the Latch Housing is on the indicated side Remove the knob from the pin Make sure that the collar and the spring are on the pin Note If there are two collars place one on each side of the spring Next insert the pin into the Latch Housing 73 Then tighten the knob onto the pin Pin 7 Note the location of the 75 ohm terminal on the front of the treadmill near the uprights For the television to operate properly a CATV cable must be connected to the 75 ohm terminal see page 10 75 Ohm Terminal 8 Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill If there are sheets of clear plastic on the treadmill decals remove the plastic To protect

7. the floor or carpet place a mat under the tread mill Note Extra hardware may be included Keep the included hex key in a secure place the large hex key is used to adjust the walking belt see page 26 If you purchase the optional chest pulse sensor see page 22 follow the steps below to install the receiver included with the chest pulse sensor 1 Make sure that the key is removed from the con sole and that the power cord is unplugged Small Cylinder Remove the indicated Screws 3 from the back of the Console Base 85 2 Connect the wire on the receiver A to the indicated wire on the Console 34 Hold the receiver so the small cylinder is oriented as shown Next remove the tape from the back of the receiver and press the receiver onto the Console Base 85 in the location shown 3 Make sure that no wires are pinched Reattach the Console 34 with the Screws 3 Discard the other wires included with the receiver Before operating the television you must connect a 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 ohm terminal on the treadmill Note Use a CATV cable to connect to an external source such as a cable box an analog cable a satel lite TV box ora VCR No CATV cable is included HOW TO CONNECT A 75 OHM CATV CABLE HOW TO CONNECT AN EXTERNAL SOURCE USING A CATV CABLE 1 Connect a 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 75 Ohm CATV Cable 1 Connect one end of a 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 ohm terminal on the ohm output jack on
8. third time Note If the fan is on when the walking belt is stopped the fan will automatically turn off after a few minutes When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console Step onto the foot rails press the Stop button and adjust the incline of the treadmill to the lowest setting The incline must be at the lowest setting when the treadmill is folded to the storage posi tion or the treadmill will become damaged Next remove the key from the console and put it in a se cure place Note If the displays remain lit after the key is removed the console is in the demo mode See HOW TO USE THE INFOR MATION MODE on page 21 and turn off the demo mode When you are finished using the treadmill switch the reset off circuit breaker to the off position and unplug the power cord When you are finished using the treadmill switch the reset off circuit breaker to the off position and unplug the power cord IMPORTANT If you do not do this the treadmill s electrical components may wear prematurely HOW TO USE A PRESET PROGRAM 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 13 A Select a preset program To select a preset program E press the Program PRGM p button repeatedly until P 1 P 2 P 3 P 4 P 5 P 6 P 7 or P 8 appears in the right display When a preset program is selected the maximum pareas Md speed se
9. walking See the matrix in the left display Each custom pro gram is divided into one minute segments One speed setting and one in cline setting can be pro grammed for each seg ment The speed setting for the first segment will be shown in the flashing Current Segment Current Segment column of ci the matrix The incline set 19 tings are not shown in the matrix To program a speed setting and an incline setting for the first segment simply adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill as desired by pressing the Speed and Incline buttons Every few times a Speed but ton is pressed an additional indicator will appear or disappear in the Current Segment column When the first segment of the program ends the current speed setting and the current incline set ting will be stored in memory 7 e three columns of indicators will then move one column to the left and the speed setting for the second segment will be shown in the flashing Current Segment column Program a speed setting and an incline setting for the second segment as described above Continue programming speed and incline settings for as many segments as desired custom pro grams can have up to forty segments When you are finished with your workout press the Stop but ton twice The speed and incline settings that you have programmed and the number of segments that you have programmed will then be saved in memory When you are finish
10. 6148 or see your local electronics store 12 Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could result in damage to the con trol system of the treadmill If the control sys tem is damaged the walking belt may change speed accelerate or stop unexpectedly which may result in a fall and serious injury 13 Keep the power cord and the surge suppres sor away from heated surfaces 14 Never move the walking belt while the power is turned off Do not operate the treadmill if the power cord or plug is damaged or if the treadmill is not working properly See TROU BLESHOOTING on page 25 if the treadmill is not working properly 15 Read understand and test the emergency stop procedure before using the treadmill see HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 13 16 Never start the treadmill while you are stand ing on the walking belt Always hold the handrails while using the treadmill 17 The treadmill is capable of high speeds Adjust the speed in small increments to avoid sudden jumps in speed 18 The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors including the user s move ment may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The pulse sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determining heart rate trends in general 19 Never leave the treadmill unattended while it is running Always remove the key unplug the power cord and switch the reset off cir cuit breaker to the off position when the tread

Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your heart rate in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exer cise never hold your breath A Cool down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 min utes of stretching to cool down This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest be tween workouts After a few months you may com plete up to five workouts each week if desired The key to success is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right Move slowly as you stretch never bounce 1 Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times Stretches Hamstrings back of knees and back 2 Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended Bring the sole of the opposite foot toward you and rest it against the inner thigh of your extended leg Reach toward your toes as far as possibl
12. admill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered b If the walking belt slips when walked on first re move the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both rear roller bolts clock wise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened 26 PROBLEM Television reception is poor SOLUTION a Check for the problems listed below and follow the applicable instructions e Ignition black spots or horizontal streaks that appear or a picture that flutters or drifts Usually this is caused by interference from automobile ignition systems neon lamps electric drifts or other electric appliances Try changing the position of other electric appliances to correct the problem Make sure that the treadmill is plugged into its own electrical circuit e Ghosts Ghosts are caused by the television signal following two paths one is the direct path and the other is reflected from tall buildings hills or other objects e Blue Screen If the cable channel signal is weak the picture may be of poor quality or a blue screen may appear Note If one of these symptoms appears the symptom may be caused by the loca
13. ailable in your area have been saved into the television s mem ory see step 5 below you can manually add channels or delete unwanted channels To add or delete a cable channel first press the Channel buttons until the desired channel number appears on the screen Then press the Volume increase button to add the channel or the Volume decrease button to delete the channel Continue this process until you have added all desired channels and deleted all unwanted channels Press the On Off button again and select a cable connection If you have connected a CATV cable one of the three cable settings should be selected try all three cable settings if necessary to find the opti mal setting Press the Volume increase button to select the Standard Cable setting the Channel decrease button to select the Cable IRC setting or the Channel increase button to select the Cable HRC setting Note The setting that you select will not appear on the screen Press the On Off button again and save cable channels into the television s memory When the On Off button is pressed the television will begin scanning all of the channels available in your area When no cable signal is detected on a channel the channel will be skipped When a cable signal is detected the channel will be saved into memory and the next channel will be se lected This process will continue until the highest channel is reached Do not remove the key while the telev
14. channel saved in mem ory Before channels can be selected in this way they must be saved in the television s memory See HOW TO USE THE INFORMATION MODE at the right Press the Volume VOL buttons to adjust the volume When either Volume button is pressed the vol ume level indicator will appear on the screen for a few seconds To temporarily mute the sound press the Mute button Press the Mute button again to listen to the television Note To use ear phones or headphones not included plug them into the headphone jack on the console When you are finished using the television press the On Off button Press the On Off button to turn off the television Note Removing the key from the console will also turn off the television 21 HOW TO USE THE INFORMATION MODE The console features an information mode that allows you to view treadmill usage information select a sys tem of measurement for the console and turn on and turn off the demo mode The information mode also al lows you to adjust the settings of the television and to save channels into the television s memory Follow the steps below to use the information mode Hold down the Stop button while inserting the key into the console When the information mode is selected the upper part of the right display will show the total number of miles or kilo meters that the walking belt has moved and the lower part of the display will show the total number o
15. d then press the switch back in Make sure that the power cord is plugged in If the power cord is plugged in unplug it wait for five minutes and then plug it back in Remove the key from the console Reinsert the key into the console If the treadmill still will not run see the front cover of this manual The incline of the treadmill does not change correctly a With the key in the console press one of the Incline buttons While the incline is changing re move the key After a few seconds reinsert the key The treadmill will automatically rise to the maximum incline level and then return to the minimum level This will recalibrate the incline system The display of the console does not function properly POWER CORD Next carefully lower the Uprights 84 Remove the two indicated 3 4 Screws 2 Note A phillips screwdriver with a shaft at least 8 long is needed 25 Raise the Uprights 84 to the vertical position Remove the three Hood Screws 7 from the Hood 41 and carefully pivot the Hood off Locate the Reed Switch 63 and the Magnet 46 on the left side of the Pulley 47 Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1 8 If necessary move the Reed Switch slightly using a slotted screwdriver Reattach the Motor Hood not shown make sure that the Hood Screws not shown are inserted into the same

18. e the manual mode of the console follow the steps beginning on page 13 To use a preset program see page 15 To use a heart rate program see page 17 To create and use a custom program see pages 19 and 20 To operate the personal television see page 21 Note If there is a sheet of clear plastic on the face of the console peel off the plastic To prevent damage to the walking platform wear clean athletic shoes while using the treadmill The first time the treadmill is used observe the alignment of the walking belt and center the walking belt if necessary see page 26 HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER IMPORTANT If the treadmill has been exposed to cold temperatures allow it to warm to room tem perature before turning on the power If you do not do this the console displays or other electrical components may become damaged Plug in the power cord see page 11 Next locate the reset off circuit breaker Reset N near the power cord Make J sure that the circuit breaker is in the reset posi tion Position Next stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Find the clip attached to the key see the drawing on page 12 and attach the clip securely to the waistband of your clothes Then insert the key into the console After a moment the displays will light and after a few sec onds the television will turn on Important In an emergency situation the key can be pulled from the console causing the walking belt to slow to a st
19. ed exercising remove the key from the console See step 7 on page 16 HOW TO USE A CUSTOM PROGRAM 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 13 A Select a custom program To select a custom program press the Program PRGM button repeatedly until P 11 or P 12 appears in the right display When a custom program is selected the maxi mum speed setting of the program and the maxi mum incline setting will flash in the right display for a few seconds The left display will show how long the program will last A profile of the speed set tings of the program will scroll across the matrix in the left display Note If only three columns of indicators appear see HOW TO CREATE A CUSTOM PROGRAM on page 19 Press the Start button or the Speed increase button to start the program A moment after the button is pressed the tread mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and incline settings that you programmed previously Hold the handrails and begin walking Each custom program is di vided into several one minute segments One speed setting and one in cline setting are pro grammed for each segment The speed setting for the first segment will be shown in the flashing Current Segment column of the ma trix The incline settings are not shown in the matrix The speed settings for the next few segments will be shown in the columns to the right Segm
20. eet on each side Do not place the treadmill on any surface that blocks air openings To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill indoors away from mois ture and dust Do not put the treadmill in a garage or covered patio or near water Do not operate the treadmill where aerosol products are used or where oxygen is being administered Keep children under the age of 12 and pets away from the treadmill at all times The treadmill should be used only by persons weighing 350 pounds or less Never allow more than one person on the treadmill at a time Wear appropriate exercise clothes when using the treadmill Do not wear loose clothes that could become caught in the treadmill Athletic support clothes are recommended for both men and women A ways wear athletic Shoes Never use the treadmill with bare feet wearing only stockings or in sandals When connecting the power cord see page 11 plug the power cord into a surge sup pressor not included and plug the surge suppressor into a grounded circuit capable of carrying 15 or more amps No other appliance should be on the same circuit Do not use an extension cord Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 11 To purchase a surge suppressor see your local REEBOK dealer or call the toll free telephone number on the front cover of this manual and order part number 14
21. ent Column When only three seconds remain in the first seg ment of the program both the Current Segment column and the column to the right will flash a se 20 ries of tones will sound the speed setting and the incline setting will flash in the right display and a speed settings will move one column to the left The speed setting for the second segment will then be shown in the flashing Current Segment column and the treadmill will automatically adjust to the second speed and incline settings that you pro grammed previously The program will continue until the speed setting for the last segment is shown in the Current Segment column and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop If desired you can redefine the program while using it To change the speed or incline setting during the current segment simply press the Speed or Incline buttons When the current segment ends the new setting will be saved in memory To increase the length of the program first wait until the program ends Then press the Start button and program speed and incline settings for as many ad ditional segments as desired When you have added as many segments as desired press the Stop button twice To decrease the length of the program press the Stop button twice at any time before the program ends To stop the program at any time press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the left dis play To restart the p
22. f hours that the treadmill has been used In addition the right display will show the letter E for English miles or the letter M for metric kilome ters Press the Speed increase button to change the unit of measurement if desired IMPORTANT If the letter d appears in the right display the demo mode is selected This mode is intended to be used only when a treadmill is displayed in a store When the demo mode is se lected the power cord can be plugged in the key can be removed from the console and the dis plays and indicators on the console will automati cally light in a preset sequence The buttons on the console will not function If a d appears in the right display when the information mode is selected press the Speed decrease button Press the On Off button and adjust the brightness contrast color sharpness and or hue of the television A few seconds after the On Off button is pressed the brightness level indicator will appear on the tele vision screen Press the Volume buttons repeatedly to adjust the brightness setting if desired Next press the Channel buttons repeatedly until the contrast color sharpness or hue level indicator ap pears Adjust each setting if desired by pressing the Volume buttons Press the On Off button again and add or delete cable channels Note Complete this step only if you are using analog cable After all valid cable channels av

24. for fat burning the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for en ergy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored a7 ca ories for energy If your goal 28 is to burn fat adjust the speed and incline of the tread mill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up in creases your body temperature heart rate and circula tion in preparation for exercise Training

31. holes from which they were removed Run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a correct speed reading PROBLEM The walking belt slows when walked on SOLUTION a Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 11 b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor mance may decrease and the walking belt may be come damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both rear roller bolts counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat Rear Roller Bolts until the walking belt is properly tightened c If the walking belt still slows when walked on please see the front cover of this manual PROBLEM The walking belt is off center or slips when walked on SOLUTION a If the walking belt is off center first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD If the walking belt has shifted to the left use the hex key to turn the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1 2 of a turn if the walking belt has shifted to the right turn the left bolt counterclockwise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the tre

45. tting of the pro gram and the maximum in cline setting will flash in the right display for a few sec onds The left display will show how long the program will last A profile of the speed settings of the pro gram will scroll across the matrix in the left display SPEED INCLINE Press the Start button or the Speed increase button to start the program A moment after the button is pressed the tread mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and incline settings of the program Hold the handrails and begin walking Each preset program is di cr vided into either 30 or 50 eS IH one minute segments One TME speed setting and one in cline setting are pro grammed for each segment Note The same speed set ting and or incline setting may be programmed for two or more consecutive seg ments The speed setting for the first segment will be shown in the flashing Current Segment column of the matrix The in cline settings are not shown in the matrix The speed settings for the next few segments will be shown in the columns at the right Current Segment Column 15 When only three seconds remain in the first seg ment of the program both the Current Segment column and the column to the right will flash and a series of tones will sound If the speed and or in cline of the treadmill is about to change the speed setting and or the incline setting will flash in the ri
46. ust to the speed and incline settings for the next segment To stop the program at any time press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the left dis play To restart the program press the Start button or the Speed increase button The walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph When the next segment of the program begins the treadmill will automati cally adjust to the speed and incline settings for the next segment DI Follow your progress with the displays See step 5 on pages 13 and 14 5 Measure your heart rate if desired See step 6 on page 14 G Turn on the fan if desired See step 7 on page 14 7 When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console When the program ends make sure that the in cline of the treadmill is at the lowest setting 16 Next remove the key from the console and put it in a secure place Note If the displays and various indicators remain lit after the key is removed the console is in the demo mode See HOW TO USE THE INFORMATION MODE on page 21 and turn off the demo mode When you are finished using the treadmill switch the reset off circuit breaker to the off position and unplug the power cord IMPORTANT If you do not do this the treadmill s electrical compo nents may wear prematurely HOW TO USE A HEART RATE PROGRAM During heart rate program 9 your heart rate will reach approximately 85 of your age predicted maximum heart rate Note Your a
