ANS 43 651 fm Page 4 Friday August 13 1999 10 51 AM 2 Press LINE 1 then lift the handset 3 Dial one of your phone numbers If the Line 2 indicator flashes the number is connected to Line 2 If you hear a busy signal the number is connected to Line 1 After you confirm the phone number for each line write the numbers on the number plate above the keypad Use a paper clip to lift off the plate s plastic OPERATION To place a call press the line button for an available line and lift the handset When you hear a dial tone dial the num ber When you receive a call that line s indi cator flashes To answer a call press the line button LINE 1 or LINE 2 below the flashing line indicator and lift the handset The line indicator turns off cover Use a pencil to write the numbers in case the numbers change Line Indicator The ring for Line 1 has a lower pitch than the ring for Line 2 This helps you tell which line is ringing Setting the Ringer Volume To end a call hang up the handset To adjust the ringer volume set RINGER to LO for a quiet ring or HI for a louder ring Adjusting the Handset Volume Set the handset volume switch in the center of the handset to the desired lev el LO MED or HI onion TONE PULSE Usi ng Hold mA y To place a call on hold press HOLD If you do not want the ringer to sound The line s indicator lights set RINGER to

OFF You can still make and answer calls if you hear another phone on the same phone line ring or if you see a line indicator flashing E g o o ANS 43 651 fm Page 5 Friday August 13 1999 10 51 AM Note Pressing another line button with out pressing HOLD disconnects the cur rent call To release a call from hold press that line s button You can also release a call from hold by picking up any extension phone on that line Using Redial To quickly dial the last number dialed press REDL when you hear a dial tone Notes The redial memory holds up to 32 digits If you dial more than 32 digits the phone does not store any num bers When the phone redials it uses the current dialing mode tone or pulse For example if you dialed a number in pulse mode and then set TONE PULSE to TONE the phone redials the number in the tone mode You can redial a number on a line other than the one you originally dialed it on if you have the same type of service on both lines Using Tone Services with a Pulse Line Some special services such as bank by phone require tone signals If you have pulse service you can still use these special services by following these steps 1 Dial the service s main number 2 When the service answers set TONE PULSE to TONE Any addi tional numbers you dial are sent as tone signals I TONE PULSE RINGER OFF LO HI
3. mol i j 3 When you finish the call set TONE PULSE back to PULSE i P Y 43 651 fm Page 6 Friday August 13 1999 10 51 AM CARE AND MAINTENANCE Your RadioShack ET 651 Two Line Desk Phone is an example of superior design and craftsmanship The following suggestions will help you care for your ET 651 so you can enjoy it for years Keep the ET 651 dry If it gets wet wipe it dry immediately Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits Use and store the ET 651 only in normal temperature environments Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices and distort or melt plastic parts Keep the ET 651 away from dust and dirt which can cause premature Up wear of parts Ui Handle the ET 651 gently and carefully Dropping it can damage circuit V boards and cases and can cause the ET 651 to work improperly Wipe the ET 651 with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new Do not use harsh chemicals cleaning solvents or strong detergents to clean the ET 651 Modifying or tampering with the ET 651 s internal components can cause a malfunc tion and might invalidate its warranty If your ET 651 is not performing as it should take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance If the trouble is affecting the tele phone lines the phone company can ask you to disconnect your ET 651 until you have resolved the problem VJ ki amp 43 651 fm Page 7 Fri

6. day August 13 1999 10 51 AM e The FCC Wants You To Know In the unlikely event that your phone causes problems on the phone line the phone company can temporarily discon tinue your service If this happens the phone company attempts to notify you in advance If advance notice is not practi cal the phone company notifies you as soon as possible and advises you of your right to file a complaint with the FCC Also the phone company can make changes to its lines equipment opera tions or procedures that could affect the operation of this telephone The tele phone company notifies you of these changes in advance so you can take the necessary steps to prevent interrup tion of your telephone service Lightning Your telephone has built in protection circuits to reduce the risk of damage from surges in telephone line and power line current These protection circuits meet or exceed the FCC requirements However lightning striking the tele phone or power lines can damage your telephone Lightning damage is not common Nev ertheless if you live in an area that has severe electrical storms we suggest that you unplug your phone during storms to reduce the possibility of dam age Sp Lis Y 43 651 fm Page 8 Friday August 13 1999 10 51 AM Limited One Year Warranty This product is warranted by RadioShack against manufacturing defects in material and workman ship under normal use for on

8. ent Your ET 651 complies with Part 68 of FCC Rules You must upon request provide the FCC registration number and the REN to your telephone compa ny Both numbers are on the bottom of the phone Note You must not connect your ET 651 to any of the following coin operated systems party line systems e most electronic key phone systems 2 o PREPARATION Connecting the Handset Plug the supplied coiled handset cord into the jacks on the handset and the left side of the phone Se ES EB 3 Connecting to the Phone Lines To take full advantage of the ET 651 s capabilities you must have two phone lines with separate phone numbers If you have only one line you can order a second from your phone company Notes e The line that connects the phone jack to the phone company wiring must be twisted pair cable Other wise you might hear interference crosstalk between the two lines Your phone connects directly to a modular phone line jack If your phone wiring does not have a modu lar jack you can update it using jacks and adapters available at your local RadioShack store or have the phone company update it for you The USOC number of the two line jack to be installed is RJ14C The USOC number of a single line jack is RJ11C V gt o ANS 43 651 fm Page 3 Friday August 13 1999 10 51 AM Plug one end of the supplied two line telephone cord into the jack o
9. n the back of the phone Then plug the cord s other end into a modular telephone line jack a If you use two single line jacks you must connect the lines with an optional two line coupler such as RadioShack Cat No 279 401 Tw line Coupler Setting the Dialing Mode Set TONE PULSE for the type of service you have If you are not sure which type you have do this simple test 1 Be sure TONE PULSE is set to TONE I RINGER OFF LO HI TONE PULSE j IE o 2 Press LINE 1 or LINE 2 lift the hand set and listen for a dial tone 3 Press any number except 0 Note If your phone system requires that you dial an access code 9 for example before you dial an outside number do not press the access code either If the dial tone stops you have touch tone service Leave TONE PULSE set to TONE If the dial tone continues you have pulse service Set TONE PULSE to PULSE 4 Hang up then repeat the test for the other line Note If you have tone service on one line and pulse service on the other you must set TONE PULSE to the right set ting each time you make a call on a dif ferent line The setting does not matter when you answer a call however Confirming the Line Numbers Follow these steps to determine which phone number is connected to which line 1 Be sure TONE PULSE is set cor rectly 3 g y gt
