O Features Your RadioShack Portable CD Player uses the latest digital audio technolo gy to deliver the clean crisp sound of compact discs You can use optional stereo earbuds for portable private listening or you can connect the CD player to your home audio or vehicle s sound system using an optional adapter The CD player s other fea tures include Super Anti Shock System rapidly scans 10 seconds of data from the CD and stores it in memory for unin terrupted play with no sound skip even when the CD player is exposed to shocks or vibration This makes this CD player excellent for use in your vehicle Programmable Play lets you pro gram and play up to 20 tracks in any sequence you choose Extended E Bass System cre ates a fuller bass sound Auto Power Off automatically turns the CD player off 30 seconds af ter it finishes playing or when you press STOP without pressing another button to help preserve battery life 1 Bit DAC uses the latest in digital to analog conversion circuitry to accurately reproduce all sound levels with virtually no distortion Eight Times Over sampling with Digital Filtering improves the CD s sound by multiplying the stan dard 44 1 kHz sample rate by eight and using a digital filter to reduce or eliminate distortion Intro Scan scans and plays the first 10 seconds of each track so you can find a specific track Repeat Play lets

Using AC or DC Power to recharge the batteries in the CD player Other adapters could damage your CD player or the batteries e Ni Cd batteries charge more effi ciently if the temperature is above 40 F 4 5 C and below 90 F 32 C Follow these steps to charge Ni Cd batteries in the CD player 1 Connect an AC or DC adapter to your CD player 2 Place two Ni Cd batteries in the compartment and on top of the attached ribbon as indicated by the polarity symbols and marked inside The CD player starts to charge the batteries Ini o tial and subsequent charging takes about 16 hours Note While charging the rechargeable Ni Cd batteries the CHARGE indicator lights 3 When the batteries are fully charged disconnect the AC or DC adapter Important The EPA certified RBRC Bat tery Recycling Seal on a Ni Cd battery indicates RadioShack is voluntar ily participating in an industry pro gram to collect and recycle these bat teries at the end of their useful life when taken out of service in the Unit ed States or Canada The RBRC pro gram provides a convenient alterna tive to placing used Ni Cd batteries into the trash or the municipal waste stream which may be illegal in your area Please call 1 800 THE SHACK 1 800 843 7422 for information on Ni Cd battery recycling and disposal bans restrictions in your area Ra dioShack s involvement in this pro gram is part of the company s com

5. mitment to preserving our environment and conserving our nat ural resources USING AC OR DC POWER You can power the CD player using a 4 5V 600 mA AC or DC adapter and a size B Adaptaplug connector 6 Powering the CD Player e e 4 6 42 6004 fm Page 7 Friday July 21 2000 1 18 PM neither supplied Both are available at your local RadioShack store Cautions You must use a Class 2 power source that supplies 4 5V DC and delivers at least 600 mA Its cen ter tip must be set to positive and its plug must fit the CD player s DC IN 4 5V jack Using an adapter that does not meet these specifi cations could damage the CD player or the adapter e Always connect the AC adapter to the CD player before you con nect it to AC power When you finish disconnect the adapter o from AC power before you dis connect it from the CD player Follow these steps to connect the CD player to AC or DC power 1 Insert the size B Adaptaplug into the AC or DC adapter s cord so it reads TIP 2 Set the adapter s voltage switch to 4 5V as necessary 3 Insert the barrel plug into the CD player s DC IN 4 5V jack 4 Depending on the type of adapter you are using plug the other end of the adapter into a standard AC outlet or a 12V power source 1 Connections You can listen to your CD player by connecting optional earphones head phones or amplified speakers to the CD
6. using the LINE OUT jack you must use the home audio or auto sound system s volume control to adjust the volume To temporarily stop play press P II The elapsed time flashes To resume play press P II again Operation 9 e iho Ss E e A 42 6004 fm Page 10 Friday July 21 2000 1 18 PM When the last track finishes playing the CD stops and the display shows the total number of tracks and total playing time of the CD for about 30 seconds then the CD player auto matically turns off To turn it off soon er press W USING SUPER ANTI SHOCK SYSTEM SAS Your CD player has a special circuit to overcome sound skipping prob lems caused by shock or vibration This means you can carry the CD player anywhere you go or use it in your vehicle When you turn on the anti shock system the CD player continuously saves 10 seconds of music in its memory During a shock or vibration that would normally make a track skip or pause the CD player plays directly from memory The CD player is preset to turn on the anti shock system at start up Re peatedly press SAS to turn anti shock on or off The anti shock icon appears when anti shock is on Notes e The CD player consumes addi tional battery power when you use the anti shock system When you use the CD player in a stable location turn off anti shock to save battery power When you press SAS to turn anti shock on or off the CD playe

CD is dirty or defective Clean the CD and reload it or try a dif ferent CD See CD Care Tips on Page 14 Vibration is excessive Turn on anti shock See Using Super Anti Shock System SAS on Page 10 Place the CD player in a different loca tion Moisture has condensed on the pickup lens Wait 1 hour for the moisture to evapo rate Troubleshooting 13 ap SA Pe 42 6004 fm Page 14 Friday July 21 2000 1 18 PM o 1 Care and Maintenance Keep the CD player dry if it gets wet wipe it dry immediately Use and store the CD player only in normal temperature environments Handle the CD player carefully do not drop it Keep the CD player away from dust and dirt and wipe it with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new Modifying or tampering with the CD players internal components can cause a malfunction and might invali date its warranty If your CD player is not performing as it should take it to your local RadioShack store for assis tance CD CARE TIPS Even though a compact disc is dura ble treat the CD surface with care Do not write on either side of the CD particularly the non label side signals are read from the non label side Do not store CDs in high temper ature or high humidity areas They might warp e Keep CDs dry A water drop can act as a lens and affect the laser beam s focus e Always handle a CD by the

15. optional mount ing bracket Your local RadioShack o store has a complete line of mounting brackets and hardware O Operation LOADING A CD Caution To help prevent dust from entering the CD player always keep the CD compartment cover closed except when loading or unloading CDs Remove the protective sheet inside the CD compartment before operating the CD player 1 Press OPEN to open the CD compartment door 2 Carefully place a CD label side up over the center hub inside the CD compartment Then gently press the CD down over the cen ter hub 3 Close the compartment cover The CD begins to play after and the total track number and play time appear briefly if power is on If power is not on press P II Note To remove a CD lift up the CD while pressing down on the center hub PLAYING A CD Warning To protect your hearing if you are using earphones or head phones set VOLUME to its lowest set ting before you play a CD Press P Il The CD play i er Te turns on SEC and the anti H shock icon appears then ANTI SHOCK flashes The total number of tracks and total play time appear briefly Then track 1 begins to play If you connected earphones head phones or amplified speakers to the CD player s PHONES jack use VOL UME on the CD player to adjust the volume If you connected the CD player to your home audio system or vehicle s sound system
16. player s PHONES jack or by con necting a home audio or vehicle s sound system to the CD player s LINE OUT jack Note If the jacks on your equipment do not match the plugs on the sup plied Y cable check with your local RadioShack store for the proper ca ble adapter CONNECTING EARPHONES OR HEADPHONES For private listening connect option al earphones or headphones with a Y e inch 3 5 mm plug into the PHONES jack on the CD player Listening Safely To protect your hearing follow these guidelines when you use an ear phone or headphones Connections e o a 9 6 I a 42 6004 fm Page 8 Friday July 21 2000 1 18 PM Set the volume to the lowest set ting before you begin listening After you begin listening adjust the volume to a comfortable level Do not listen at extremely high volume levels Extended high volume listening can lead to per manent hearing loss Once you set the volume do not increase it Over time your ears adapt to the volume level so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing Traffic Safety Do not wear an earphone or head phones while operating a motor vehi cle or riding a bicycle This can create a traffic hazard and could be illegal in some areas Even though some earphones or headphones let you hear some out side sounds when listening at normal volume levels they still can present a tra
17. r s o sound briefly cuts out for about 2 seconds USING AUTOMATIC SEARCH MUSIC SYSTEM ASMS You can use ASMS before or during regular or programmed play to quickly locate any track on a CD While the CD is stopped repeatedly press I or gt gt I to move backward or forward to the desired track Press P Il to play the desired track During play press M4 to return to the beginning of the current track Press H4 twice to return to the beginning of the previous track To move to the be ginning of the next track press PPI LOCKING THE CONTROLS You can protect your CD player from accidental program changes by lock ing all controls except E BASS ON OFF VOLUME and OPEN To lock the controls slide HOLD to ON HOLD appears To turn off hold slide HOLD ON OFF to OFF USING E BASS To enhance the bass sound when connecting headphones or external speakers using the PHONES jack 10 Operation e e e W o 42 6004 fm Page 11 Friday July 21 2000 1 18 PM slide E BASS ON OFF to ON To return to normal bass sound slide E BASS ON OFF to OFF USING AUDIBLE SEARCH To search forward or backward dur ing play hold down K lt or gt gt I The CD plays rapidly and you hear the sound at a faster speed and lower volume Release K4 or PPI to resume normal play Note If you hold down or gt gt I while the last track is playing audible search stops at the end of the
18. r stops To stop the CD sooner press W You can replay the programmed se quence within 30 seconds after play stops Otherwise the CD player turns off and clears the programmed se quence To replay the programmed sequence press PROG so PROG flashes then press P II To review the programmed track numbers after programming press PROG repeatedly To clear the programmed sequence from memory press W twice or open the CD compartment cover 12 Operation e hao 42 6004 fm Page 13 Friday July 21 2000 1 18 PM O Troubleshooting If you have problems operating your CD player try these suggestions If they do not solve the problem contact your local RadioShack service center for assis tance Problem Possible Cause Solution The CD player does not work The CD Player is set to HOLD Slide HOLD in the opposite direction of the arrow No power Make sure the batteries are fresh Make sure the AC or DC adapter is properly connected See Using AC or DC Power on Page 6 If you are using a DC adapter to power the DC player make sure the adapter s fuse has not blown ACD is loaded but the CD player does not start The CD is loaded upside down Reload the CD label side up The CD is dirty or defective Clean the CD and reload it or try a dif ferent CD See CD Care Tips on Page 14 The CD s sound skips The
