4. eries of different capacities If you do not plan to use the recorder for about a month remove the batteries Batteries can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic parts Using AC or DC Power You must use a Class 2 for AC power source that supplies 6V DC and delivers at least 300 mA Its center tip must be set to positive and its plug must fit the recorder s DC 6V 300mA jack Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the recorder or the adapter Always connect the adapter to the recorder before you plug it into the power source and unplug the adapter from the power source before you unplug it from the recorder CONNECTING POWER INSTALLING BATTERIES Your recorder requires four C batteries not supplied for power For the best performance and longest life we recommend RadioShack alkaline batteries 4 1 Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screw on the battery compartment cover and lift up the cover 2 Place the batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols and marked outside the compartment 3 Replace the cover and tighten the screw When the sound becomes weak or distorted the tape speed slows or the recorder stops operating properly replace the batteries A amp USING AC OR DC POWER To power the recorder from an AC outlet or your vehicle s battery power you need an AC or DC adapter and a size M Adaptaplug neit
5. her supplied available at your local RadioShack store 4 1 If necessary set the adapter s voltage switch to 6V 2 Attach the Adaptaplug to the adapter s cord with the tip set to positive 3 Insert the barrel plug into the recorder s DC 6V 300mA jack This disconnects the internal batteries 4 Plug the other end of the adapter into the power source USING YOUR RECORDER LOADING A TAPE 1 2 3 Press STOP EJ to open the cassette compartment Slide the cassette tape into the compartment with the side you want to play facing out and the open edge facing up Close the compartment PLAYING A CASSETTE T APE 1 N a A w Rotate VOLUME clockwise to turn the player on Set TAPE MIC TAPE MIC to TAPE Press PLAY The tape begins to play Adjust VOLUME to the desired sound level X The tape automatically stops when it reaches the end To stop the tape sooner press STOP Eu Press STOP EJ to open the compartment and remove the tape To play the tape s other side remove and reinsert it so the other side plays X NOTE X To fast forward or rewind the tape first press STOP EJ to stop play then press FF or REW Press STOP EJ then PLAY to resume play SINGING ALONG 1 Lift the microphone off its holder and rotate MIC VOLUME toward the microphone s cord to turn it on 2 Rotate TAPE MIC TAPE MIC to MIC TAPE 3 Sing into the microphone Over the speaker yo
6. n the tape reels by gently tapping each side of the cassette s outer shell on a flat surface 4 ERASING TAPES To record ona previously recorded cassette tape simply record as usual The tape recorder records over the previous recording You can quickly erase both sides of a cassette tape using a bulk tape eraser PREVENTING ACCIDENTAL ERASURE Cassette tapes have two erase protection tabs one for each side When a tab is in place you can record on that side To prevent accidental erasure of a tape recording use a screwdriver to remove one or both of the cassette tape s erase protection tabs This prevents RECORD from being pressed If you later decide to record ona tape side after you have removed the erase protection tab place a piece of strong plastic tape over that side s erase protection hole Be sure you cover only the hole originally covered by the erase protection tab amp X CAUTION 4 Restoring Tape Tension and Sound Quality Be careful not to damage the cassette when tapping it Do not touch the exposed tape or allow any sharp objects near the cassette Preventing Accidental Erasure Removing the erase protection tabs does not prevent a bulk eraser from erasing a cassette tape X NOTE X If you use metal or high bias type tape the recorded sound might not be erased properly X NOTE X For easier cleaning you can use a cassette cleaner kit which includes a special clea
7. ning cassette RadioShack carries a full line of cassette deck cleaning supplies CLEANING THE T APE HANDLING PARTS Dirt dust or particles of the tape s coating can accumulate on the tape heads and other parts that the tape touches This can greatly reduce the performance of the system After every 20 hours of tape player operation follow these steps to clean the tape handling parts 1 Remove the batteries 2 Press STOP EJ to open the cassette compartment door then press PLAY to expose the tape handling parts 3 Use a cotton swab dipped in tape head cleaning solution or denatured alcohol to gently clean the record playback head pinch roller capstan and tape guides X 4 Press STOP EJ to release the tape handling parts Then close the cassette compartment cover and reconnect power CARE Keep the recorder dry if it gets wet wipe it dry immediately Use and store the recorder only in normal temperature environments Handle the recorder carefully do not drop it Keep the recorder away from dust and dirt and wipe it with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new If your recorder is not performing as it should take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance Modifying or tampering with the recorder s internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty SPECIFICATIONS Tap system nienn 1 Channel 2 Tracks Tope Speed e ESE KE 17 8 ips Signal to Noise Ratio
8. u hear your voice mixed with the tape 4 Adjust MIC VOLUME to the desired level 5 When you finish singing rotate MIC VOLUME toward the top of the microphone to turn it off and place the mic back on its holder USING THE PLAYER AS AN AMPLIFIER 1 Rotate TAPE MIC TAPE MIC to MIC or MIC TAPE 2 Lift the microphone off its holder and rotate both VOLUME and MIC VOLUME to turn them on 3 Speak into the microphone and adjust the volume to the desired level Your voice is amplified through the recorder s built in speaker 4 When you finish rotate VOLUME and MIC VOLUME to turn them off and place the microphone back on its holder RECORDING You can mix your voice with any tape but karaoke tapes provide the best quality recordings 1 Load a blank tape or one you want to record over into the cassette compartment 2 Rotate TAPE MIC TAPE MIC to MIC TAPE 3 Rotate MIC VOLUME to turn the mic on 4 Press PLAY and REC at the same time Both PLAY and REC lock down Sing or speak into the microphone 5 To stop recording press STOP EJ then place the microphone back on its holder TAPE TIPS RESTORING TAPE TENSION AND SOUND QUALITY After you play a cassette tape several times the tape might become tightly wound on the reels This can cause playback sound quality to deteriorate To restore the sound quality fast forward the tape from the beginning to the end of one side then completely rewind it Then loose
