The treadmill is capable of high speeds Adjust the speed in small increments to avoid sudden jumps in speed The heart rate monitor is not a medical de vice Various factors including the user s movement may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The heart rate monitor is in tended only as an exercise aid in determining heart rate trends in general 20 21 22 23 Never leave the treadmill unattended while it is running Always remove the key unplug the power cord and press the power switch into the off position when the treadmill is not in use See the drawing on page 5 for the lo cation of the power switch Do not attempt to raise lower or move the treadmill until it is properly assembled See ASSEMBLY on page 7 and HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL on page 21 You must be able to safely lift 45 Ibs 20 kg to raise lower or move the treadmill When folding or moving the treadmill make sure that the storage latch is holding the frame securely in the storage position Never insert any object into any opening on the treadmill 24 25 26 27 Inspect and properly tighten all parts of the treadmill regularly DANGER Always unplug the power cord immediately after use before cleaning the treadmill and before performing the mainte nance and adjustment procedures described in this manual Never remove the motor hood un less instructed to do so by an authorized ser vice rep

5. the walking platform wear clean athletic shoes while using the treadmill The first time the tread mill is used observe the alignment of the walking belt and center the walking belt if necessary see page 24 Note The console can display speed and distance in either miles or kilometers To find which unit of mea surement is selected see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 20 For simplicity all instructions in this section refer to miles 15 HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER IMPORTANT If the treadmill has been exposed to cold temperatures allow it to warm to room tem perature before turning on the power If you do not do this you may damage the console displays or other electrical components Plug in the power cord see page 14 Next locate the power switch on the tread mill frame near the power cord Make sure that the switch is in the reset position 22 IMPORTANT The console features a display demo mode designed to be used if the treadmill is dis played in a store If the displays light as soon as you plug in the power cord and press the power switch into the reset position the demo mode is turned on To turn off the demo mode hold down the Stop button for a few seconds If the displays remain lit see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 20 to turn off the demo mode Next stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Locate the clip attached to the key and slide the clip securely onto the waistband of your

8. console s stereo speakers you must connect your MP3 player CD player or other personal audio player to the con sole Locate the audio wire and plug it into the audio jack on the side of the console Then plug the other end into a jack on your player CD player or other personal audio player Make sure that the audio wire is fully plugged in Next press the play button on your player CD player or other personal audio player Then adjust the volume on your personal audio player or press the Vol increase and decrease buttons on the console If you are using a personal CD player and the CD skips set the CD player on the floor or another flat sur face instead of on the console 19 THE INFORMATION MODE The console features an information mode that keeps track of the total distance that the walking belt has moved and the total number of hours that the treadmill has been used The information mode also allows you to select miles or kilometers to measure distance and to turn on and turn off the display demo mode You can also adjust the contrast level of the display and view the status of the optional iFit Live module To select the information mode hold down the Stop button insert the key into the console and then re lease the Stop button When the information mode is selected the following information will appear in the display The display will show the total number of miles that the walking belt has m

10. left side 9 With the help of a second person hold the con sole assembly near the Right Upright 83 and the Left Upright not shown Connect the Upright Wire 85 to the console wire See the inset drawing The connectors should slide together easily and snap into place If they do not turn one connector and try again IF YOU DO NOT CONNECT THE CON NECTORS PROPERLY THE CONSOLE MAY BECOME DAMAGED WHEN YOU TURN ON THE POWER Remove the wire tie from the Upright Wire Console 11 10 Set the console assembly on the Left and Right Uprights 82 83 Be careful not to pinch any Console wires Insert the excess wire into the Right Assembly Upright Start two 5 16 x 3 4 Screws 5 with two 5 16 Star Washers 9 into the Right Upright 83 Then start a 5 16 x 1 1 2 Bolt 4 into the Right Upright Repeat this step on the left side of the tread mill Then firmly tighten all four 5 16 x 3 4 Screws 5 and both 5 16 x 1 1 2 Bolts 4 11 See steps 4 and 5 Tighten all Screws used in these steps Console Assembly Attach the Left Accessory Tray 101 and the Right Accessory Tray 104 to the console as sembly with eight 8 x 1 2 Screws 1 12 12 13 14 Press the Left Outside Upright Cover 87 and the Left Inside Upright Cover 90 around the Left Upright 82 Attach the Upright Covers with a 8 x 1 2 Screw 1 Attach the Right Outside Upright
11. matically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the next segment Select a display mode and monitor your progress with the display See step 5 on page 17 Measure your heart rate if desired See step 6 on page 17 When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console See step 7 on page 17 HOW TO USE THE IFIT TRAINING MODE The optional iFit Live module allows your treadmill to communicate with your wireless network and unlocks exciting new features For example you can download personalized workouts create your own workouts track your workout results and access many other fea tures To purchase an iFit Live module at any time go to www iFit com or call the telephone number on the front cover of this manual You must have an iFit Live module to use the iFit training mode To use the iFit training mode insert the iFit Live mod ule into the console Use the increase and decrease buttons next to the Enter button and highlight IFIT TRAINING Press the Enter button For more information about the iFit training mode go to www iFit com Note To use an iFit Live module you must have access to a computer with an internet con nection and a USB port You must also have your own wireless network including an 802 11b router with SSID broadcast enabled hidden networks are not sup ported You will also need an iFit com membership HOW TO USE THE STEREO SOUND SYSTEM To play music or audio books through the
12. surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 14 b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor mance may decrease and the walking belt may be come damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both idler roller screws counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 in 5 to 7 cm off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the Locate the Reed Switch 44 and the Magnet 43 treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walk on the left side of the Pulley 42 Turn the Pulley ing belt is properly tightened until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1 8 in 3 mm If necessary move the Reed Switch slightly using a slotted screwdriver Reattach the Motor Hood not shown with the four 8 x 1 Screws not shown and the two 8 x 1 1 2 Screws not shown Run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a cor rect speed reading Idler Roller Screws c Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with high performance lubricant IMPORTANT Never apply silicone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking platform unless in structed to
13. then press the switch back in Tripped SYMPTOM The power turns off during use a Check the power switch see the drawing above If the switch has tripped wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in b Make sure that the power cord is plugged in If the power cord is plugged in unplug it wait for five minutes and then plug it back in c Remove the key from the console and then reinsert it d If the treadmill still will not run please see the front cover of this manual SYMPTOM The console displays remain lit when you remove the key from the console a The console features a display demo mode de signed to be used if the treadmill is displayed in a store If the displays remain lit when you remove the key the demo mode is turned on To turn off the demo mode hold down the Stop button for a few seconds If the displays are still lit see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 20 to turn off the demo mode SYMPTOM The displays of the console do not function properly a Remove the key from the console and UNPLUG 22 THE POWER CORD Place the treadmill in the storage position see HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL on page 21 Remove the two 8 x 1 1 2 Screws 52 Then lower the treadmill see HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE on page 21 Remove the four 8 x 1 Screws 49 and carefully SYMPTOM The walking belt slows when walked on remove the Motor Hood 61 a Use only a single outlet
14. turn freely 3 Identify the Right Upright 83 which is marked with a Right sticker Have a second person hold the Right Upright near the Base 94 See the inset drawing Tie the wire tie in the Right Upright 83 securely around the end of the Upright Wire 85 Then pull the other end of the wire tie until the Upright Wire is routed through the Right Upright 4 Insert a 3 8 x 5 1 2 Screw 7 3 8 x 3 3 4 Screw 97 and a 3 8 x 2 1 4 Screw 31 with three 3 8 Star Washers 11 into the Right Upright 83 in the locations shown Hold the Right Upright 83 against the Base 94 Be careful not to pinch the Upright Wire 85 Partially tighten the 3 8 x 5 1 2 Screw 7 and the 3 8 x 3 3 4 Screw 97 until the heads of the Screws touch the Right Upright do not fully tighten the Screws yet Then partially tighten the 3 8 x 2 1 4 Screw 31 With the help of a second person carefully tip the treadmill onto its right side Partially fold the Frame 55 so that the treadmill is more stable do not fully fold the Frame yet Insert a 3 8 x 5 1 2 Screw 7 a 3 8 x 3 3 4 Screw 97 and a 3 8 x 2 1 4 Screw 31 with three 3 8 Star Washers 11 into the Left Upright 82 in the locations shown Hold the Left Upright 82 against the Base 94 Partially tighten the 3 8 x 5 1 2 Screw 7 and the 3 8 x 3 3 4 Screw 97 until the heads of the Scre
15. bered 1 Step Speed buttons the walking belt will gradually change speed until it reaches the selected speed setting To select a speed setting that includes a decimal such as 3 5 mph press two numbered buttons in succession For example to select a speed setting of 3 5 mph press the 3 button and then immedi ately press the 5 button To stop the walking belt press the Stop button To restart the walking belt press the Start button the Speed increase button or one of the numbered 1 Step Speed buttons Change the incline of the treadmill as desired To change the incline of the treadmill press the Incline increase or decrease button or one of the 1 Step Incline buttons numbered 0 to 10 Each time you press one of the buttons the incline will gradu ally change until it reaches the selected incline setting Select a display mode and monitor your progress with the display The console offers several display modes The dis play mode that you select will determine which workout information is shown To select the de sired display mode repeatedly press the Display button or the increase and decrease buttons next to the Enter button As you walk or run on the treadmill the center dis play can show the following workout information The incline level of the treadmill The speed of the walking belt The distance that you have walked or run The elapsed time Your heart rate see step 6 The approxima
16. clothes Then insert the key into the console After a mo ment the displays will light IMPORTANT In an emer gency the key can be pulled from the console causing the walking belt to slow to a stop Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward if the key is not pulled from the console adjust the posi tion of the clip HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE 1 16 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER at the left Select the manual mode Each time the key is in serted the main menu will appear To select the manual mode use the increase and de crease buttons next to the Enter button and highlight START Press the Enter button If you have selected a workout or the iFit Training mode press the Menu button to return to the main menu Start the walking belt and adjust the speed To start the walking belt press the Start button the Speed increase button or one of the numbered 1 Step Speed buttons If you press the Start button or the Speed increase button the walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph As you exercise change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the Speed in crease and decrease buttons next to the Stop but ton Each time you press one of the buttons the speed setting will change by 0 1 mph if you hold down the button the speed setting will change in increments of 0 5 mph If you press one of the num
17. cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered If the walking belt slips when walked on first re move the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both idler roller screws clockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 in 5 to 7 cm off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walk ing belt centered Then plug in the power cord in sert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened SYMPTOM The console display has lines running through it If lines appear in the console display see THE IN FORMATION MODE on page 20 and adjust the contrast level of the display EXERCISE GUIDELINES A WARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physi cian This is especially important for persons over age 35 or persons with pre existing health problems The heart rate monitor is not a medical de vice Various factors may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The heart rate monitor is intended only as an exercise aid in deter mining heart rate trends in general These guidelines will help you to plan your exercise program For detailed exercise information obtain a reputable book or consult your physician Remember proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential f
18. engthen your cardiovascular system you must perform aerobic exer cise which is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time For aerobic ex ercise adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Warming Up Start with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A warm up increases your body temperature heart rate and circulation in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise Exercise for 20 to 30 min utes with your heart rate in your training zone During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your heart rate in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exercise never hold your breath Cooling Down Finish with 5 to 10 minutes of stretch ing Stretching increases the flexibility of your muscles and helps to prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest be tween workouts After a few months of regular exer cise you may complete up to five workouts each week if desired Remember the key to success is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life PART LIST Key No Qty 23 HOt tnt in inp AaANnNHANANANANNN AANANATZINNVANDAOONNAKROAA Description 8 x 1 2 Screw 8 x 1
19. g the power cord see page 14 plug the power cord into a surge sup pressor not included and plug the surge suppressor into a grounded circuit capable of 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 carrying 15 or more amps No other appliance should be on the same circuit Do not use an extension cord Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 14 To purchase a surge suppressor see your local PROFORM dealer or call the tele phone number on the front cover of this man ual and order part number 146148 or see your local electronics store Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could result in damage to the con trol system of the treadmill If the control sys tem is damaged the walking belt may slow accelerate or stop unexpectedly which may result in a fall and serious injury Keep the power cord and the surge suppres sor away from heated surfaces Never move the walking belt while the power is turned off Do not operate the treadmill if the power cord or plug is damaged or if the treadmill is not working properly See TROU BLESHOOTING on page 22 if the treadmill is not working properly Read understand and test the emergency stop procedure before using the treadmill see HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 16 Never start the treadmill while you are stand ing on the walking belt Always hold the handrails while using the treadmill
20. hanges in your home s power To decrease the risk of damaging your treadmill always use a surge suppressor with your treadmill see drawing 1 at the right To purchase a surge suppressor see precaution 12 on page 3 Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that is UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge sup pressor TVSS The surge suppressor must have a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps There must be a moni toring light on the surge suppressor to indicate whether it is functioning properly Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could dam age the control system of the treadmill see precau tion 13 on page 3 This product must be grounded If it should malfunc tion or break down grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of elec tric shock This product s power cord has an equip ment grounding conductor and a grounding plug Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accor dance with all local codes and ordinances IMPORTANT The treadmill is not compatible with GFCl equipped outlets and may not be compatible with AFCl equipped outlets This product is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit see drawing 1 A temporary ada

34. te number of calories you have burned Regardless of which display mode you select the speed and incline settings will appear in the speed and incline displays 17 6 Measure your heart rate if desired Before using the handgrip heart rate monitor re move the sheets of plas tic from the metal contacts In addition make sure that your hands are clean Contacts To measure your heart rate stand on the foot rails and hold the contacts avoid moving your hands When your pulse is detected your heart rate will be shown For the most accurate heart rate reading continue to hold the contacts for about 15 seconds When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console Step onto the foot rails press the Stop button and adjust the incline of the treadmill to the lowest setting The incline must be at the lowest set ting when you fold the treadmill to the storage position or you may damage the treadmill Next remove the key from the console and put it in a secure place When you are finished using the treadmill press the power switch into the off position and unplug the power cord IMPORTANT If you do not do this the treadmill s electrical components may wear prematurely HOW TO USE A PRESET WORKOUT 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 16 Select a preset workout If you have selected a workout or the iFit Training mode press the Menu bu
35. ter shipping there may be some lubricant on top of the walking belt or on the shipping carton This is normal If there is lubricant on top of the walking belt wipe it off with a soft cloth and a mild non abrasive cleaner Make sure that the power cord is unplugged With the help of a second person carefully tip the treadmill onto its left side Partially fold the Frame 55 so that the treadmill is more stable do not fully fold the Frame yet Locate the Upright Wire 85 which is bundled at the front of the Base 94 Remove the pack aging from the Upright Wire Insert the Upright Wire into the end of the Base and pull it out of the indicated hole If necessary use the plastic tie to pull the Upright Wire out of the hole Attach two Base Feet 92 and two Base Foot Spacers 36 to the Base 94 in the locations shown with two 8 x 1 Tek Screws 2 Then attach the other two Base Feet 92 with two 8 x 1 Tek Screws 2 See the inset drawing Cut the plastic tie near the Upright Wire 85 To identify small parts see page 6 Assembly requires the following tools the included hex keys one adjustable wrench one Phillips screwdriver scissors needlenose pliers To avoid damaging parts do not use power tools 2 Attach Wheel 95 to the Base 94 with a 3 8 x 3 Bolt 67 two Wheel Spacers 96 and a 3 8 Nut 10 Do not overtighten the Nut the Wheel must
