1. 3 Gently tilt the handle of the screwdriver to ward the back of the unit to release the latch while pulling up on the vacuum inlet cover with your other hand 4 Hold the vacuum inlet cover open until up per vacuum tube is installed Vacuum Inlet Retaining Post Ni A Vacuum SA 5 5 Place the hooks of the upper vacuum tube on the retaining posts of the unit 6 Pivot the tube until it is secured to the blower unit by the vacuum inlet latch PIVOT CH Retaining Post HOW TO CONVERT UNIT FROM VACUUM USE TO BLOWER USE 1 Remove the vacuum tubes by inserting the tip of a screwdriver into the latch area of the vacuum inlet Gently tilt handle of screwdriver toward the back of the unit to release the latch while pulling up on the upper vacuum tube with your other hand Remove the vacuum bag Close the vacuum inlet cover and make sure it is latched closed Reinstall the blower tube see BLOWER TUBE ASSEMBLY SHOULDER STRAP ADJUSTMENT di 2 3 4 Hold the unit as shown with the muffler side facing away from your body and clothes Pass the shoulder strap over your head and onto your right shoulder Extend your left arm toward the rear ofthe vacuum bag Adjust shoulder strap until the vacuum bag shoulder strap seam lies between your thumb and index finger Make sure air flows freely from the elbow tube into bag If bag is kinked th

A WARNING inspect area before start ing unit Remove all debris and hard objects such as rocks glass wire etc that can rico chet be thrown or otherwise cause injury or damage during operation Use your unit as a blower for e Sweeping debris or grass clippings from driveways sidewalks patios etc e Blowing grass clippings straw or leaves into piles around joints or between bricks Use your unit as a vacuum for e Picking up dry material such as leaves grass small twigs and bits of paper e For best results during vacuum use operate your unit at high speed e Move slowly back and forth over the mate rial as you vacuum Avoid forcing the unit into a pile of debris as this can clog the unit e Keep the vacuum tube about an inch above the ground for best results while pulling up on the vacuum inlet cover with your other hand When using the vacuum attachment the unit is designed to pick up dry material such as leaves grass small twigs and bits of paper Do not vacuum stones gravel metal broken glass etc to avoid severe dam 44 WARNING Fire hazard Never mix pour or store gasoline or use the unit near a flame or sparks including smoking open flames or work that can cause sparks SAFETY RULES PLAN AHEAD e Always wear eye protection when operat ing servicing or performing maintenance on unit Wearing eye protection will help to prevent rocks or debris from being blown or ricocheting in

Drain the gas tank start the engine and let it run until the fuel lines and carburetor are empty Use fresh fuel next season Never use engine or carburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank or permanent damage may occur NOTE Unit must be placed on its side when adding fuel see illustration below TO STOP THE ENGINE e To stop the engine move the throttle lever to the STOP position BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE A WARNING You MUST make sure the tubes are secure before using the unit e Fuel engine Move at least 10 feet 3 me ters away from the fueling site e Hold the unit in the starting position as shown Make sure the blower end is di rected away from people animals glass and solid objects 4 STARTING POSITION N lt E Vacuum AA WARNING When starting engine hold the unit as illustrated Do not set unit on any surface except a clean hard area when starting engine or while engine is running Debris such as gravel sand dust grass etc could be picked up by the air intake and thrown out through the discharge opening damaging the unit or property or causing serious injury to by standers or the operator HELPFUL TIP If your engine still does not start after following these instructions please call 1 800 554 6723 STARTING A COLD ENGINE 1 Move throttle lever to the 4 position 2 Move choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position 3 Slowly press the primer button 8 times Throttle L

5. loose enough to allow blower tube to be inserted in blower outlet Loosen knob by turning counterclockwise Blower Outlet Blower Tube Groove A Rib 2 Secure the tube by turning the knob clock wise 3 Toremove the tube turn the knob counter clockwise to loosen the tube remove the tube VACUUM BAG ASSEMBLY 1 Open the zipper on the vacuum bag and insert the elbow tube 2 Push the small end of the elbow tube through the small opening in the bag Elbow Tube ce Zipper Z Opening NOTE Make sure edge of the small opening is flush against the flared area of the elbow tube and the rib on the elbow tube is on the bottom 3 Close the zipper on the bag Make sure the zipper is closed completely 4 Remove blower tube from engine 5 Insertthe elbow tube into the blower outlet Make sure elbow tube rib is aligned with the blower outlet groove 6 Turn knob clockwise to secure elbow tube VACUUM TUBE ASSEMBLY AA WARNING Stop engine and be sure the impeller blades have stopped turning be fore opening the vacuum inlet door or at tempting to insert or remove the vacuum or blower tubes The rotating blades can cause serious injury 1 Align the lower vacuum tube as shown Push lower vacuum tube into upper vacu um tube Lower Vacuum Tube 2 Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the latch area of the vacuum inlet Blower Outlet lt _ Latch Area Vacuum Inlet Cover
6. properly maintain your unit CHECK FOR LOOSE FASTENERS AND PARTS e Spark Plug Boot e Air Filter e Housing Screws Muffler CHECK FOR DAMAGED OR WORN PARTS Contact an authorized service dealer for re placement of damaged or worn parts Fuel Tank Do not use unit if fuel tank shows signs of damage or leaks e Vacuum Bag Do not use vacuum bag if it is torn or damaged INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND DECALS e After each use inspect complete unit for loose or damaged parts Clean the unit and decals using a damp cloth with a mild deter gent e Wipe off unit with a clean dry cloth Os CLEAN AIR FILTER Screws Air Filter Cleaning the air filter A dirty air filter decreases engine perform ance and increases fuel consumption and harmful emissions Always clean or replace air filter after every 5 hours of operation or yearly whichever comes first 1 Clean the cover and the area around it to keep debris from falling into the carburetor chamber when the cover is removed 2 Remove parts as illustrated NOTE Do not clean filter in gasoline or other flammable solvent Doing so can create a fire hazard or produce harmful evaporative emis sions 3 Wash the filter in soap and water 4 Allow filter to dry 5 Apply a few drops of oil to the filter squeeze filter to distribute oil 6 Replace parts REPLACE SPARK PLUG Replace spark plug each year to ensure the engine starts easier and runs b

8. to start move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position Once engine starts move choke lever to the RUN position To reduce the risk of hearing loss associated with sound level s hearing protection is required To reduce the risk of injury associated with contacting rotating parts stop the engine be fore installing or removing attachments Do not operate without guard s in place Operate power equipment only at reasonable hours not early in the morning or late at night when people might be disturbed Comply with times listed in local ordinances Usual recom mendations are 9 00 a m to 5 00 p m Monday though Saturday To reduce noise levels limit the number of pieces of equipment used at any one time To reduce noise levels operate power blowers at the lowest possible throttle speed to do the job Use rakes and brooms to loosen debris be fore blowing STE In dusty conditions slightly dampen sur faces or use a mister attachment when wa ter is available Conserve water by using power blowers instead of hoses for many lawn and garden applications including areas such as gutters screens patios grills porches and gardens Watch out for children pets open windows or freshly washed cars Blow debris away safely Use the full blower nozzle extension so the air stream can work close to the ground After using blowers and other equipment CLEAN UP Dispose of debris in trash re ceptacles BEFORE STARTING EN

GINE AA WARNING Be sure to read the fuel information in the safety rules before you be gin If you do not understand the safety rules do not attempt to fuel your unit Call 1 800 554 6723 FUELING ENGINE AA WARNING Remove fuel cap slowly when refueling HELPFUL TIP To obtain the correct oil mix ratio pour 3 2 ounces of 2 cycle synthetic oil into one gallon of fresh gas This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline Before operation gasoline must be mixed with a good quality synthetic 2 cycle air cooled engine oil designed to be mixed ata ratio of 40 1 Poulan PRO brand synthetic oil is recommended Mix gasoline and oil at a ratio of 40 1 A 40 1 ratio is obtained by mixing 3 2 ounces 95 ml of oil with 1 gallon 4 liters of unleaded gasoline DO NOT USE automotive oil or marine oil These oils will cause engine damage When mixing fuel follow instructions printed on container Once oil is added to gasoline shake container momentarily to assure that the fuel is thoroughly mixed Always read and follow the safety rules relating to fuel before fueling your unit IMPORTANT Experience indicates that alcohol blended fuels called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol can attract moisture which leads to separation and formation of acids during storage Acidic gas can damage the fuel system ofan engine while in storage To avoid engine problems empty the fuel system before storage for 30 days or longer

IGATIONS The U S Environmental Protection Agency and Poulan WEED EAT ER are pleased to explain the emissions con trol system warranty on your year 2005 and later small off road engine PoulanWEED EATER must warrant the emission control system on your small off road engine for the periods of time listed below provided there has been no abuse neglect or improper maintenance of your small off road engine Your emission control system includes parts such as the carburetor and the ignition sys tem Where a warrantable condition exists Poulan WEED EATER will repair your small off road engine at no cost to you Expenses covered under warranty include diagnosis parts and labor MANUFACTURER S WAR RANTY COVERAGE If any emissions re lated part on your engine as listed under Emissions Control Warranty Parts List is de fective or a defect in the materials or work manship of the engine causes the failure of such an emission related part the part will be repaired or replaced by Poulan WEED EAT ER OWNER S WARRANTY RESPONSI BILITIES As the small off road engine own er you are responsible forthe performance of the required maintenance listed in your in struction manual Poulan WEED EATER rec ommends that you retain all receipts covering maintenance on your small off road engine but Poulan WEED EATER cannot deny war ranty solely for the lack of receipts or for your failure to ensure the performance of all sched uled maintenance As
12. a where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or open flames from water heaters electric motors or switches furnaces etc Store unit with all guards in place Position unit so that any sharp object cannot acci dentally cause injury Store unit and fuel well out of the reach of children SEASONAL STORAGE Prepare unit for storage at end of season or if it will not be used for 30 days or more If your unit is to be stored for a period of time e Clean the entire unit before lengthy stor age e Store in a clean dry area e Lightly oil external metal surfaces 10 FUEL SYSTEM Under FUELING ENGINE in the OPERA TION section ofthis manual see message la beled IMPORTANT regarding the use of ga sohol in your engine Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative in minimizing the formation of fuel gum deposits during storage Add stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or fuel storage container Follow the mix instructions found on stabilizer container Run engine at least 5 minutes after adding stabilizer HELPFUL TIP During storage of your gas oil mixture the oil will sepa rate from the gas We recommend that you shake the gas can weekly to insure proper blending of the gas and oil TROUBLESHOOTING TABLE ENGINE Remove spark plug and pour 1 teaspoon of 40 1 2 cycle engine oil air cooled through the spark plug opening Slowly pull the starter rope 8 to 10 times to distribute oil Replace spark plug with n
13. as are required to be equipped with a spark arresting screen maintained in effec tive working order or the engine must be con structed equipped and maintained for the prevention of fire Check with your state or lo cal authorities for regulations pertaining to these requirements Failure to follow these requirements is a violation of the law This unit is not factory equipped with a spark arresting screen however a spark arresting screen is available as an optional part Ifa spark arrest ing screen is required in your area contact your authorized service dealer for the correct kit The spark arresting screen blower tubes and nozzles must be assembled to unit to be in full compliance with regulations 4 ASSEMBLY AA WARNING Stop engine and be sure the impeller blades have stopped turning be fore opening the vacuum inlet door or at tempting to insert or remove the vacuum or blower tubes The rotating blades can cause serious injury Always disconnect the spark plug before performing maintenance or ac cessing movable parts AA WARNING If you receive your unit assembled check each step to insure your unit is properly assembled and all fasteners are secure Follow all safety information in the manual and on the unit e A standard screwdriver is required for as sembly BLOWER TUBE ASSEMBLY 1 Align the rib on the blower tube with the groove in the blower outlet slide the tube into place NOTE Knob must be

17. etter Set spark plug gap at 0 025 inch 0 6 mm Igni tion timing is fixed nonadjustable 1 Twist then pull off spark plug boot 2 Remove spark plug from cylinder and dis card 3 Replace with Champion RCJ 6Y spark plug and tighten securely with a 3 4 inch 19 mm socket wrench 4 Reinstall the spark plug boot REPLACE FUEL FILTER To replace fuel filter drain unit by running it dry of fuel then remove fuel cap retainer assem bly from tank Pull filter from tank and remove it from the fuel line Install new fuel filter on fuel CHECK MUFFLER MOUNTING SCREWS Once each year ensure muffler mounting screws are secure and tightened properly to prevent damage Mounting 1 muffler cover 2 Remove the muffler cover 3 Tighten the 2 muffler mounting screws se curely 4 Reinstall muffler cover and 2 screws Tighten securely CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS There is no screw for idle adjustment on your blower The throttle lever is used to control engine speed The throttle lever can be placed in one of four positions STOP IDLE or MM FULL THROTTLE or 4 and one intermittent position If your engine will not run properly or you require further assistance contact an authorized service dealer or call 1 800 554 6723 STORAGE AA WARNING Perform the following steps after each use Allow engine to cool and secure the unit before storing or transporting Store unit and fuel in a well ventilated are
18. ever Primer Button Choke Lever 4 Pull starter rope sharply until engine at tempts to run but no more than 5 pulls be low 30 F 8 pulls NOTE If engine attempts to start before the 5th pull go to next step immediately 5 Move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position 6 Pull the starter rope sharply until the en gine runs but no more than 5 pulls below 30 F 10 pulls 7 After a 5 second warm up move the choke lever to the RUN position 8 Allow the unit to run for 30 more seconds at the RUN position before moving the throttle lever to the position If engine has not started after 5 pulls at HALF CHOKE repeat STARTING A COLD ENGINE procedure If engine still does not start proceed to STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE 9 To stop the engine move the throttle lever to the STOP position STARTING A WARM ENGINE NOTE If fuel tank is empty add fuel then follow STARTING A COLD ENGINE proce dure Do not fill fuel tank while engine is hot 1 Move throttle lever to the position 2 Pull starter rope sharply until engine runs but no more than 5 pulls NOTE If engine has not started pull starter rope 5 more pulls If engine still does not run it is probably flooded 3 To stop the engine move the throttle lever to the STOP position STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE Flooded engines can be started by placing the choke lever in the RUN position Move throttle lever to the
