Rack Mounting Your Parasound JC 2 With its four feet removed the JC 2 s front panel height occupies three rack spaces 5 4 or 133 mm A single standard rack space occupies 1 3 4 vertical space For mounting in a standard 19 equipment rack you must use the Parasound HRA 3 rack mount kit purchased separately The HRA 3 includes four bolts and eight plastic washers with raised shoulders Slide one washer onto each mounting bolt with its raised shoulder pointing toward the panel hole Carefully insert the bolt through the hole and slide the other washer on the 6 bolt with its raised shoulder facing the rear side of the HRA 3 Rack Bracket panel The washers will sandwich the JC 2 panel and the four mounting bolts Ras ao Gn to prevent metal to metal contact between the Model O O O JC 2 chassis the equipment E bas uma qe ARA rack and the other compo e q O o o o o o o o o O D nents mounted in the rack O Note Tighten each bolt just enough to keep the unit secure in the rack to avoid deforming the shoulder washers Eliminating metal to metal contact reduces the likelihood of creating a ground loop that might introduce hum into your system A custom rack mount shelf for the JC 2 is available from Middle Atlantic Products Inc http www middleatlantic com 115v 230v AC Voltage Selector Switch Note The unit may be seriously damaged if t

5. systems such as Crestron AMX Control4 Niles and Elan When the JC 2 is connected to such a device it can be controlled and its status monitored from keypads or touch screen panels throughout your house The capabilities of such connections and the programming and interfacing needed will depend on the automation system you select consult your Parasound dealer or custom installer for more information regarding interfacing an external control system to your JC 2 The complete RS 232 protocol can be found at www parasound com 00000 0000 Serial Port RS 232 Control AC Power The IEC standard AC cord supplied with your JC 2 is an audiophile grade component Please connect it directly to an AC wall outlet that is always live If possible plug your JC 2 into the same AC outlet that your accompanying audio components particularly your source components and power amplifiers are plugged into If different AC outlets are used the ground potential may be higher or lower between the outlets resulting in audible hum OPERATING YOUR JC 2 Before turning the JC 2 on recheck all your connections and turn down the volume control to avoid any unpleasant blasts that could damage your speakers Turn On Delay The first time you turn on your JC 2 after connecting its AC power it will automatically mute for 45 seconds with its Mute indicator flashing red This time allows the JC 2 to warm up and stabilize its circuits so you

OUR JC 2 continued DESIGN OVERVIEW Polarity Normal 8 Invert Buttons The polarity or phase of the Main Outputs is the same as the input unless you press the Invert button to invert the polarity of the Main Outputs 180 relative to the input signal Pressing the Normal button restores normal 0 polarity of the Main Outputs For more information on when to invert polarity please see the Frequently Asked Questions on page 13 of this manual Parasound Tuner Buttons These buttons will control Parasound Halo Tuners such as the T 3 They select FM or AM band and allow you to scroll through its presets Burning in Your JC 2 Like many other great high end preamplifiers your JC 2 should operate for at least 72 hours with music playing any volume level is ok after it is first turned on before it will sound its best This gives various internal components and wiring a chance to form their optimum electron pathways so they can pass complex musical information with greater definition smoothness and transparency Although your JC 2 will sound spectacular when you first turn it on you will come to appreciate it even more as your listening hours accumulate You ll discover additional musical details you may not have known were present Maintaining Your JC 2 Your JC 2 requires no periodic maintenance and has no user serviceable parts inside To avoid risk of electric shock do not remove the top cover To keep it clean use only a so

14. don t hear any turn on transients After the first turn on its turn on delay will be only 4 5 seconds Note Your JC 2 will also mute for 45 seconds the first time you turn it on after its AC power was interrupted or disconnected FRONT PANEL CONTROLS Preamplifier PARASOUND On Off Button Push once to turn on Push again to turn off The Mute LED will flash for 4 5 seconds whiles its circuits stabilize After the circuits stabilize the muting will disengage Input Select Button The INPUT button selects the 6 inputs and a blue LED indicates which input is selected You will select the next input each time you press it Input 1 comes after input 6 Volume Control Your JC 2 employs a precision close tracking four gang potentiometer to adjust master volume level Adjust your power amplifier gain controls if it has them so that your JC 2 master volume knob s indicator is between 11 o clock and 1 o clock for your most typical listening level This is its sweet spot where the control s left right channel tracking is closest and its distortion is lowest Note The JC 2 has a maximum gain of 14 dB which is suitable for most power amplifiers and for all Parasound power amplifier models including the JC 1 Left and Right Level Controls Adjusting left and right channel balance is helpful to compensate for speaker placement room acoustics or if your power amplifier s gain isn t identical for both chan

20. inverted output jacks to maintain correct absolute polarity if your power amplifier s invert polarity For more information on absolute polarity please see the Frequently Asked Questions section of this manual Inverted Out Jacks and Power Amplifier Bridging You can bridge a conventional two channel power amplifier to mono by connecting one amplifier input channel to the JC 2 s left channel Inverted Out jack and the other amplifier input channel to the JC 2 s right channel Main Out jack Connect a single mono speaker to the amplifier s left and right positive terminals with no wires connected to its negative terminals Note While this won t hurt the JC 2 you can seriously damage the power amplifier if you make any connections to its negative speaker terminals Connecting a Signal Processor to Your JC 2 You can patch a signal processor between the JC 2 and your power amplifier s This would include devices such as an electronic crossover or the equalizer that is supplied with a particular speaker Make sure that the signal processor s input can accept the full output of the JC 2 without overloading You should also adjust the gain controls of your amplifier processor and the JC 2 for the lowest noise level CONNECTING YOUR JC 2 continued OTHER CONNECTIONS 12V Trigger Out There are four 12 volt trigger outputs These can be used to turn on power by Power On Off amplifiers and other equipment that are equipped with auto
