AUTO CLOCK SES DATA SELECT aw CHOOSE gt TO END PUSH EXIT 4 If you want the VCR to locate a local PBS station from which to take the time press the PLAY button or the STOP v button to select SET PBS CH AUTO Then press the F FW D button W hen the current time appears on the screen you re finished Press the STATUS EX IT button Or you may be prompted to turn off the VCR Turn off the VCR power and leave it off for several minutes W hen the cur rent time appears on the VCR display panel the clock is set You may turn on the VCR again If you want to tell the VCR the PBS station from which to take the time press the PLAY button or the STOP v button to select SET PBS CH MANUAL Press the F FW D button then use the Number buttons to enter the channel number of the desired PBS station W hen the current time appears on the screen you re finished Press the STATUS EXIT button NOTE CANNOT FIND PBS CLOCK DATA may flash on the screen Press the PLAY A button or the STOP w button to choose SELECT NEW PBS CH then press the F FW D We button Use the Number buttons to enter the channel number of another PBS station Or press the PLAY button or the STOP w button to select SET PBS CH AUTO Press the F FW D gt button You will be prompted to turn off the VCR Turn off the VCR power and leave it off for several minutes W hen the current time appears on the VCR display panel the clock is set You may turn on
5. antenna cable and Cable Box Direct Broadcast System if applicable Details are on pages six 10 Make sure the tape has a record tab Details are on page five Check the TV VCR position Details are on page 27 Check the CH3 CH4 switch Details are on pages six nine The VCR will not perform a timer recording Make sure the recording start and stop times are set correctly Details are on pages 33 36 Make sure a tape is in the VCR and the tape has a record tab Details are on page five If after program ming a timer recording you turn off the VCR power without putting a tape in the VCR the Timer light will blink If the record tab on a tape is missing the VCR will eject the tape The Timer light will blink Make sure the VCR power is off Make sure the clock is set Details are on pages 15 18 The VCR may not perform or continue a timer recording if a power interruption of more than one minute occurs If you have a Cable Box Direct Broadcast System timer recordings are programmed differently Details are on page eight Finish programming a timer recording at least five minutes before the recording is set to begin 12 p m is noon 12 a m is midnight There is no playback picture or the playback picture is noisy or contains streaks Make sure the TV is on the same channel as the VCR s CH3 CH4 switch Make sure the VCR is in VCR position The VCR light will appear on the display panel Make sure channel 03 or
6. press the STO P w button or insert a tape You cannot manually adjust the tracking of a Still picture However you may press the CHANNEL a buttons on the VCR to remove vertical jitter in a Still picture Before Tracking Adjustment Multi Channel Television Sound System VRB613 only 43 Your VCR can play recordings broadcast in Hi Fi high fidelity stereo which produces a crisp clear sound from two sources Your VCR also can play tapes recorded in a second audio usually that means your program is recorded in a second language Of course your VCR will play tapes recorded in monaural single source sound as well Your VCR also will record in Hi Fi stereo or in second audio so when you play back that tape on the VCR it will be in stereo or second audio If you play back the tape on a VCR that can t play back tapes in stereo or second audio the VCR will automatically play the tape in monaural sound Read the directions on this page to familiarize yourself with your VCR s stereo and second audio setups Then follow the directions on page 44 to record in stereo or second audio and the directions on page 45 to play back tapes recorded in Hi Fi stereo Understanding On Screen Displays W hen you receive a signal from a channel you re watching portions of the on screen display shown below will appear when you press the STATUS EXIT button on the remote control The indication 2ND AUD or TV STOP 12 00 AM The indication 2N D

Jacks you must use a Y splitter audio cable as illustrated to deliver audio to the TV s right and left channels This hookup will not give you stereo sound To get stereo sound use the connections on pages six seven and select the channel to be viewed at the TV with the VCR turned off Turn on your TV making sure it is in Line Input mode Please refer to your TV owner s manual for details Before turning on your VCR make sure there are batteries in the remote control and the VCR and TV are connected correctly e You can not program channels if you are using a Cable Box or a Direct Broadcast System e If you are not using a Cable Box D BS the clock may set itself automatically after you connect the antenna C able signal to the VCR and plug in the power cord The time will appear on the display panel 1 Press the VCR button then press the POW ER button The VCR light and the PW R power light will appear on the dis play panel 2 Turn on the TV Set it to the same channel as the CH3 CH4 switch on the back of the VCR The display shown below will appear If the display does not appear check your hookups then follow the steps on page 12 to set up channels and page 20 to select a language SELECT aw EN G LISH ON ESPANOL MAKE SELECTION OR PUSH MENU TO CONTINUE 3 Within 60 seconds press the PLAY a button or the STOP v button to select English or Spanish on screen displays and menus 4 Press the

LEE 0 0 0 B 2 2 Tm lt gt SAGEN SPEED TIMESEARCH PAUSE STILL REC OTR MEMORY SLOW MUTE To check the time remaining for an OTR after the OTR has been set press the STATUS EXIT button To change the recording length while an OTR is in progress press the REC ord OTR button until the desired length appears on the screen If you begin an OTR when another recording is paused the OTR will begin You can not pause an OTR If the preset time for a timer record ing comes up during an OTR the OTR has priority A message will remind you when the timer recording was scheduled to begin You may let the OTR continue the timer recording will not take place Or stop the OTR and turn off the VCR immediately The timer recording will take place if you turn off the VCR before the timer recording s scheduled start time Timer Recording 33 Follow the steps below to program your VCR to record TV pro grams while you re away from home The VCR will turn itself on record and turn itself off automatically Before you begin Set up the channels at the VCR Set the clock Put a tape in the VCR Make sure the tape s record tab is intact and the tape is long enough to record the program s Put the VCR in VCR position The VCR light will appear on the display panel If it does not press the VCR TV button once POWER VCRITV EJECT Do each step within 60 seconds of the previous step 1

VCR the power will come on auto matically If the tape s record tab is missing playback will begin If a timer recording is set the power will not come on automati cally when you insert a tape with the record tab intact If a timer recording is set and the VCR power is off the VCR will eject the tape if the record tab is missing Automatic Rewind Eject Off W hen a tape is played fast forwarded or recorded to its end the VCR will rewind the tape stop eject the tape then turn itself off If the real time counter memory is set the VCR will only rewind the tape to the point at which the counter is set to zero then stop The VCR will not eject the tape automatically or shut itself off Tape Eject A tape can be ejected with the VCR power on or off but the VCR must be plugged in If a timer recording is set a tape can only be ejected with the power on Make sure you insert a tape and turn off the VCR power for the timer recording Automatic T racking Adjustment The VCR adjusts tracking automatically to give you the best possi ble picture quality W ith some recordings however you may get a better picture using the manual tracking controls see below Manual T racking To manually adjust the tracking during playback and slow motion playback press the CHANNEL a v buttons on the VCR The CH annel A w button on the remote control will not adjust tracking Tracking will return to Automatic Tracking Adjustment when you

20. not change channels at the TV If you can not change the channels at the TV using the Number but tons press the ENTER button after you press the Number buttons It may change channels at the TV W hen you replace the batteries in the remote control you must pro ram the remote control again There IS no guarantee that the a to point the a con remote will work your TV trol toward the TV during steps 1 6 Repeat step 1 If the remote control works your TV you re fin ished If the remote control still doesn t work your TV repeat Steps 3 5 using a different code for your brand if available 22 Setting the Remote to Operate a Cable Box Direct Broadcast System 60000090000090900000900000909000000000009000000909000000900000090000090000009090000099000000900000099000000000009090000099000 Your VCR remote control may operate your Cable Box or Direct Broadcast System DBS If the remote control doesn t operate your Cable Box or DBS now follow the steps below Turn on the Cable Box DBS Then point the remote con trol at your Cable Box DBS and press the CBL DBS button Then press the POWER button If your Cable Box DBS turns off try the other Cable Box D BS buttons see pages 23 24 If your Cable Box D BS doesn t turn off or if the other buttons don t work go to step 2 2 Find the brand of your Cable Box or DBS on the lists below and remember the two digit number beside it CABLE BOX CODES

47. he CH annel a v button or use the Number buttons to select another channel Hi Fi Stereo Sound VRB613 only During playback Hi Fi audio may temporarily revert to normal audio when you adjust tracking This is normal W hen connecting the VCR to a stereo TV you will only get stereo sound if you use audio cables to con nect the AUDIO OUT jacks on the VCR to the AUDIO IN jacks on your TV and if the TV is in Line Auxiliary Input mode W hen you connect the AUDIO OUT jacks on the VCR to the AUDIO IN jacks on your TV the stereo light on the TV might not glow But as long as the status display indicates you are receiving a stereo sig nal you are receiving a stereo signal This is normal Only tapes recorded in Hi Fi audio will play back in Hi Fi audio Tapes recorded in normal audio will play back in monaural audio Cleaning the Video Heads Your VCR automatically cleans the video heads each time you insert a tape However the heads may become dirty If so use a commercially available head cleaner or have an authorized servicer clean the video heads Eventually the heads may need to be replaced The playback picture is too dim too bright or fluctuates in brightness Some programs may be broadcast with copyright protection technology in order to protect the rights of copyright owners This technology is used on programs that are recorded on video tapes or D igital Video Discs DVDs as well as some programs broadcast by antenn
