1. 1 Connect a Cable signal to the VCR s AN T enna IN jack 2 Use an RF coaxial cable supplied to connect the RF OUT jack on the VCR to the IN jack on the Cable Box DBS 3 Use a second RF coaxial cable to connect the OUT jack on the Cable Box D BS to the TV s ANTENNA IN jack Recording One Channel W atching Another 1 Put the Cable Box D BS on the same channel as the VC R s CH3 CH4 switch Set the TV to the Cable Box D BS output chan nel 03 or 04 Then with the VCR in VCR position the VCR light will appear on the display panel use the CH annel A W button to select the channel you want to record at the VCR Start the recording 2 Press the VCR TV button once to put the VCR in TV position The VCR light will disappear When you play a tape make sure the Cable Box DBS is set to the same channel as the CH 3 CH4 switch on the VCR Set the TV to the Cable Box DBS output channel 03 or 04 Select the channel you want to watch at the Cable Box DBS 10 Turning on Your VCR Before turning on your VCR make sure batteries are in the Turn on the TV remote control and the VCR TV and Cable Box DBS if applica ble are connected W ait for the VCR to set up 1 channels Press the VCR button then press the POWER button 2 Turn on the TV Set it to channel 3 or 4 whichever chan nel the CH3 CH4 switch on the back of the VCR is set to The menu shown below will appear SELECT A V ENGLI

Cassette Inside lights will flash on the VCR s display panel after you eject a tape with the VCR power turned off Counter Reset The real time counter will reset to 0 00 00 when you insert a cas sette To reset the real time counter to 0 00 00 at anytime press the CLEAR button on the remote control Automatic T racking Adjustment The VCR continually adjusts tracking to give you the best possible picture quality W ith some recordings however you may get a better picture by adjusting the tracking manually see below Manual T racking Adjustment Press the CH annel A W buttons to remove jitter in a still picture To return to Automatic Tracking Adjustment press the CH annel A F buttons on the VCR at the same time except during still picture mode e The CH annel A W buttons adjust tracking during normal tape play back and slow motion picture The VCR returns to Automatic Tracking Adjustment whenever a tape is inserted Before After Tracking Tracking Adjustment Adjustment 52 Glossary AUDIO IN OUT Jacks jacks located on the front and back of the VCR which are used to record audio from another source IN or to send audio to another source OUT The VRA451 has single AUDIO IN OUT Jacks on the front and back of the VCR The VRA 651 has Right and Left AUDIO IN OUT Jacks on the front and back of the VCR Automatic Channel Programming process in which the VCR scans all available channels and places the ones

POWER button to turn off the VCR The VCR must be turned off for a timer recording to take place The light will appear on the display panel The light and the Cassette Inside light will flash when you turn off the VCR if there is not a tape in the VCR Turn off the VCR for a timer recording Put a tape in the VCR Leave the Cable Box DBS on CBL DBS TV VCR VCR TV POWER EJECT QUICK PROGRAMMING STILUSLOW PHILIPS Do not select DAILY at step 6 if the VCR Plus recording you chose is on a Saturday or Sunday The recording will not occur even though the VCR may accept the way you pro grammed the recording To exit the VCR Plus programming system at any step press the EXIT STATUS button PROGRAM NOT COMPLETED CLASH may appear on the screen for five seconds at step 8 if the timer recording you programmed overlaps another timer recording To cancel the overlapping timer record ing follow the steps on page 39 If you want to check your timer recordings follow the steps on page 39 36 Quick Programming Follow the steps below to program your VCR to record TV pro grams while you re away from home The VCR will turn itself on record and turn itself off automatically 1 Before you begin make sure e Channels are programmed Details are on pages 11 12 e The clock is set Details are on pages 13 17 If the clock is not set CLOCK MUST BE SET appears on the screen followed
