Do not operate your computer inside furniture as this might increase the risk of overheating Airflow temperatures into the computer should not exceed 35 C 95 F 91 92 CD and DVD drive safety Danger CD and DVD drives spin discs at a high speed If a CD or DVD is cracked or otherwise physically damaged it is possible for the disc to break apart or even shatter when the CD drive is in use To protect against possible injury due to this situation and to reduce the risk of damage to your computer do the following Always store CD DVD discs in their original packaging Always store CD DVD discs out of direct sunlight and away from direct heat sources Remove CD DVD discs from the computer when not in use Do not bend or flex CD DVD discs or force them into the computer or their packaging Check CD DVD discs for cracks before each use Do not use cracked or damaged discs Electrical current safety information Danger Electric current from power telephone and communication cables is hazardous To avoid a shock hazard Do not use your computer during a lightning storm Do not connect or disconnect any cables or perform installation maintenance or reconfiguration of this product during an electrical storm Connect all power cords to a properly wired and grounded electrical outlet Connect to properly wired outlets any equipment that will be attached to this product Whenever possible

Attention Any use of the battery other than the original or Lenovo battery will result in burning or fire Dispose of the used battery depending on the instructions Checking battery status You can determine the percentage of battery power remaining by using Windows Power Options 33 34 The amount of battery power you use determines how long you can use your computer between charges As computer users habits and needs will vary it is difficult to predict how long a battery charge will last There are two main factors The amount of energy stored in the battery from the time you start using your computer The way you use your computer for example how often you access the hard disk drive and how bright you make the computer display Using the AC adapter The power to run your computer can come either from the lithium ion Li ion battery pack provided with it or from AC power through the AC adapter While you use AC power the battery charges automatically The AC adapter that comes with your computer has two basic components The transformer pack that converts AC power for use with the computer The power cord that plugs into the AC outlet and the transformer pack Attention Using an improper power cord could cause severe damage to your computer To use the AC adapter do the following Be sure to take these steps in the order in which they are given here Connect the AC adapter

14. inline memory module SO DIMM available as an option in the memory slot of your computer SO DIMMs with different capacities are available Note Use only the memory types supported by your computer If you incorrectly install the optional memory or install an unsupported memory type a warning beep will sound when you try to start the computer To install an SO DIMM do the following Touch a metal table or a grounded metal object This action reduces any static electricity in your body which could damage the SO DIMM Do not touch the contact edge of the SO DIMM Tur off the computer then disconnect the AC adapter and all cables from the computer Close the computer display and turn the computer over 71 O Remove the battery O Remove the thermal slot cover a Remove the screws that secure the thermal slot cover EJ b Remove the thermal slot cover PJ Q If two SO DIMMs are already installed in the memory slot remove one of them to make room for the new one by pressing out on the latches on both edges of the socket at the same time Be sure to save the old SO DIMM for future use 72 Insert the notched end of the DIMM into the socket Press the DIMM firmly and pivot it until it snaps into the place Make sure that it is firmly fixed in the slot and does not move easily Reinstall the thermal slot cover Reinstall the battery O T
