2. 6 Operating Your Dryer WZZM Stopping restarting your dryer You can stop your dryer anytime during a cycle to add or remove clothes 1 To stop the dryer either e Open the dryer door OR e Press CANCEL 2 To restart the dryer e Close the dryer door e Select a new Cycle Temp and other new settings if desired e Press START PRESS CANCEL START Selecting the right cycle and setting The following pages describe the cycles on your dryer Refer to the charts on pages 11 and 12 for help in selecting drying cycles Drying guidelines e Always follow care label directions when they are available e To dry delicate fabrics rubber plastic and heat sensitive fabrics always use the Air Tumble cycle or dry these items on a line or rack see page 15 e The last few minutes of all cycles are without heat to make the load easier to handle e To help reduce wrinkling remove the load from the dryer as soon as tumbling stops This is especially important for permanent press knits and synthetic fabrics e Overdrying can cause shrinkage static cling and damage to some fabrics e Refer to pages 19 22 for information about sorting clothes for drying choosing load sizes drying tips drying special care items using dryer fabric softeners saving energy vacation care Az Operating Your Dryer Using Automatic drying NOTE Use the Energy Preferred Automatic S
3. injury or loss of life Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS e Do not try to light any appliance e Do not touch any electrical switch do not use any phone in your building e Clear the room building or area of all occupants e Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor s phone Follow the gas supplier s instructions e If you cannot reach your gas supplier call the fire department installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer service agency or the gas supplier ieee Understanding Dryer Safety IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AWARNING To reduce the risk of fire electrical shock or injury to persons when using your dryer follow basic precautions including the following Read all instructions before using your dryer Do not machine wash or machine dry items cleaned washed soaked in or spotted with wax paint gasoline oil dry cleaning solvents and other flammable fluids The fumes can create a fire hazard or explosion Always hand wash and line dry items containing these materials Do not allow children to operate play with or crawl inside your dryer Super vise children when your dryer is used near children e Do not reach into a dryer if the drum is moving e When removing from service or discard ing a dryer always remove the door to p

Clean Screen alert indicates excessive lint is present on your lint screen A full lint screen restricts airflow and reduces drying efficiency When the Clean Screen alert light glows stop the dryer immediately and clean the lint screen NOTE Clean your lint screen before each load Do not wait for the clean screen light to glow 16 As needed cleaning Laundry detergents and fabric softeners can cause a residue buildup on the lint screen Clean the lint screen with a nylon brush every six months or more frequently if it becomes clogged due to a residue buildup Use the following method 1 Wet both sides of lint screen with hot water 2 Wet a nylon brush with hot water and liquid detergent scrub lint screen with the hk brush to remove residue buildup 3 Rinse screen with hot water 4 Thoroughly dry lint screen with a clean towel replace in dryer C aring for Your Dryer Cleaning the dryer exterior and window Clean the dryer exterior and gt window with a soft damp cloth Wipe and dry with a soft cloth Cleaning the dryer interior Garments which contain unstable dyes such as denim blue jeans or brightly colored cotton items may discolor the dryer interior To clean dryer drum 1 Make a paste with detergent and very warm water 2 Apply paste to a soft cloth Fadl and scrub area until all 1 excess dye is removed ROX i ex 3 Wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth 4 Tumble a l

7. hold The following chart suggests cycles and settings for the different kinds of items that might best be rack dried RACK DRY cyce TIME Wool sweaters Timed 50 min Block to shape and lay flat on the rack Stuffed toys or pillows Timed 50 min Cotton or polyester fiber filled Stuffed toys or pillows Air Tumble No Heat 90 min Foam rubber filled Sneakers or canvas shoes 15 ating for Your Dryer Dryers require regular maintenance Follow the suggestions below to maintain your dryer properly Cleaning the lint screen Every load cleaning The lint screen is located under a lid on top of the dryer Clean it before each load A screen blocked by lint can increase drying time To clean 1 Open the lid and pull the lint screen straight out 2 Roll lint off the screen with your fingers Do not rinse or wash screen to remove lint Wet lint is hard to remove 3 Push the lint screen firmly back into place and close the lid IMPORTANT e Do not run the dryer with the lint screen loose damaged blocked or missing Doing so can cause overheating and damage to both the dryer and fabrics e Some towels made of synthetic fibers and natural fibers polyester and cotton blends may shed more lint than other towels causing your dryer s lint screen to fill up faster Be sure to remove lint from the lint screen before and after drying new towels Clean screen alert The
8. small items such as baby socks or and stains were removed during the wash hankies in a mesh bag for easier removal Do not tumble dry soiled or stained items e Articles to be ironed should be removed Heat may permanently set stains from the dryer while still damp 19 Laundry Tips Drying special care items Most garments and household textiles have manufacturer s care labels with laundering instructions Always follow care label directions when they are available Pages 11 and 12 include drying instructions for most types of washables The chart below provides drying instructions for special care washables ITEMS DRYING INSTRUCTIONS Blankets and Machine drying knitted woolens is not recommended Block to shape woolens when wet and allow to air dry Line dry blankets in shade on a breezy day over two lines Pin edges together and straighten them When partly dry turn the blanket over repin and restraighten When dry brush nap Cotton rayon Dry as recommended for permanent press fabrics on page 11 synthetic blankets Electric blankets If manufacturer recommends machine drying electric sheets 1 Place one or two dry towels in the dryer and preheat 3 5 minutes woolen blankets on a high setting This will dry blankets faster and help avoid washable woolen pilling garments 2 Put blanket in dryer with warm towels Set control for 20 minutes 3 Check after 10 minutes Remove when still damp Over

CT You can tum one or both options Off if desired Options selection chart Each time you press SELECT LOCKOUT PRESS you turn an option On or Off SELECT LOCK OUT Third Press Fourth Press OPTIONS CYCLE SIGNAL OPTIONS OPTIONS Both options Off Both options On Using end of cycle signal Your dryer sounds a signal to let you know when the selected cycle is finished The signal is helpful when drying permanent press synthetics and other items that should be removed from the dryer as soon as it stops The signal can be turned On or Off as described above 13 O ther Features Understanding the SMOOTH GUARD option When you are unable to remove a load from the dryer as soon as it stops wrinkles can form To protect your clothing from wrinkles use the SMOOTH GUARD option e If you do not open the door within a few minutes after a cycle ends the SMOOTH GUARD feature protects your load by tumbling it every few minutes for up to 150 minutes e The SMOOTH GUARD tumbling rear ranges and fluffs the load to avoid wrinkles that set in when the load remains in the dryer e A signal will sound every few minutes during the SMOOTH GUARD cycle The signal and the cycle will stop when the door is opened or if you press CANCEL Using the Lock Out feature This feature is useful to lock the electronic controls on your dryer and to prevent the machine from being accidentally start

17. etting Reg Dry to dry most loads In the Automatic cycles the CUSHIONED HEAT Drying System automatically reduces the heat setting to prevent overdrying of fabrics Your dryer automati cally shuts off when the selected dryness is reached Reg Dry is the preset automatic dryness selected for the RegulareHeavy Hi Permt Press Med and Delicates Low cycles You can change the Automatic setting or select a Timed setting to match your load 1 Press ON SELECT until the light glows by the Cycle Temp desired Regulare Heavy Permt Press or Delicates 2 Press SELECT until the light glows below Automatic and by the desired Automatic dryness If desired change Options selections See pages 13 14 3 Press START NOTES If the load is drier than you like select LESS DRY or LEAST DRY the next time you dry a similar load e If the load is not as dry as you like com plete drying using a Timed setting Select MORE DRY or VERY DRY the next time you dry a similar load e When you press SELECT the Automatic dryness settings are selected first starting with Reg Dry Continue to press SELECT for a Timed setting see page 9 8 PRESS YOU SEE SELECT 4 A Operating Your Dryer MAM Using Timed drying Use Timed drying to complete drying if some items are damp after Automatic drying Timed drying is also useful to dry delicate items that require a short drying time 1 Press ON S

21. oad of rags to dry Changing the drum light The dryer light automatically turns on inside the dryer drum when you open the door To change drum light 1 Unplug the dryer or disconnect the electricity leading to the dryer at the main power supply 2 Openthedryerdoor Remove the light bulb cover from the back wall of the dryer by turn ing the cover clockwise 3 Remove the light bulb by turn ing it clockwise 4 Replace the bulb with a 40 watt appliance bulb only 5 Replace the light bulb cover and lock in place by turning counterclockwise gt 6 Reconnect power supply AWARNING Explosion Hazard e Turn off the electrical power before cleaning the dryer interior e Make sure the dryer is cool e Use nonflammable cleaner Failure to do so could result in electrical shock or injury fire or explosion AWARNING Electrical Shock and Fire Hazard e Before removing light bulb either unplug the dryer or disconnect the dryer at the main power supply e The bulb cover must be in place during dryer operation to prevent overheating and possible damage to fabrics Operating the dryer with the bulb cover removed can cause the dryer to fail or create a fire hazard 17 Caring for Your Dryer Removing accumulated lint Lint can gather inside the dryer and be a fuel for fire It is recommended that lint be removed every 2 to 3 years or more often depending on dryer usage Clean
