1. Operator s manual Please read the operator s manual carefully and make sure you understand the instructions before using the machine KEY TO SYMBOLS Symbols WARNING Incorrect or careless use of a hedge trimmer can turn it into a dangerous tool that can cause serious or even fatal injury It is extremely important that you read and understand the contents of this operator s manual Please read the operator s manual carefully and make sure you understand the instructions before using the machine Always wear e Approved hearing protection e Approved eye protection This product is in accordance with applicable EC directives Cutting tool Do not touch the tool without first switching off the engine This machine is not electrically insulated If the machine touches or comes close to high voltage power lines it could lead to death or serious bodily oem injury Electricity can jump from one point S to another by arcing The higher the a voltage the greater the distance Th electricity can jump Electricity can also travel through branches and other objects especially if they are wet Always keep a distance of at least 10 m between the machine and high voltage power lines and or any objects that are touching them If have to work within this safe distance you should always contact the relevant power company to make sure the power is switched off before you start work Thi2. Only use the machine for the purpose it was intended for Make sure that the handle and safety features are in good working order Never use a machine that lacks a part or has been modified outside its specifications All covers must be correctly fitted and undamaged before you start the machine Starting and stopping WARNING The complete clutch cover and shaft must be fitted before the machine is started otherwise the clutch can come loose and cause personal injury Always move the machine about 3 metres from the refuelling position before starting Place the machine on a firm surface Remember that the blades may start to move when the engine is started Make sure the blades cannot come into contact with any object Make sure that no unauthorised persons are in the working area otherwise there is a risk of serious personal injury The safety distance is 15 metres Cold engine Primer bulb Press the air purge repeatedly until fuel begins to fill the bulb The bulb need not be completely filled Choke Set the choke control in the choke position Start throttle Set the throttle to the start position by first pressing the throttle lockout and the throttle trigger then pressing the start throttle button A Then release the throttle lockout and the throttle trigger followed by the start throttle button The throttle function is now activated To return the engine to idle press the throttle lockout and throttle

7. aust fumes as possible after the running in period ask your dealer service workshop which has a rev counter for this purpose to adjust your carburettor Function lol e The carburettor governs the engine s speed via the throttle control Air and fuel are mixed in the carburettor The air fuel mixture is adjustable Correct adjustment is essential to get the best performance from the machine e Adjusting the carburettor means that the engine is adapted to local operating conditions e g climate altitude petrol and the type of 2 stroke oil Adjusting the idle speed The T screw regulates the throttle setting at idle speed If the T screw is turned clockwise this gives a higher idle speed turning it anti clockwise gives a lower idle speed Before any adjustments are made make sure that the air filter is clean and the air filter cover is fitted Adjust the idle speed with the idle adjustment screw T if adjustment is necessary First turn the idle adjustment screw T clockwise until the blades start to move Then turn the idle adjustment screw T anticlockwise until the blades stop The idle speed is correctly adjusted when the engine runs smoothly in every position There should also be a clear margin to the speed at which the blades start to move The blades must also remain stationary when the choke control is in the start throttle position WARNING If the idle speed cannot be adjusted so that the cutting attachment stop

14. g cutting e Always lay the machine on the ground when you are not using it e Do not cut too close to the ground Stones and other objects can be thrown out e Check the working area for foreign objects such as electricity cables insects and animals etc or other objects that could damage the cutting attachment such as metal items e If any foreign object is hit or if vibrations occur stop the machine immediately Disconnect the HT lead from the spark plug Check that the machine is not damaged Repair any damage e If anything jams in the blades while you are working switch off the engine and wait until it has stopped completely before cleaning the blades Disconnect the HT lead from the spark plug e Never put the machine down with the engine running unless you have it in clear sight Safety instructions after completing work e The transport guard should always be fitted to the cutting attachment when the machine is not in use e Make sure the cutting attachment has stopped before cleaning carrying out repairs or an inspection Disconnect the HT lead from the spark plug WORKING TECHNIQUES e Always wear heavy duty gloves when repairing the cutting attachment This is extremely sharp and can easily cause cuts e Store the machine out of reach of children e Use only original spare parts for repairs Basic working techniques e Work with a swinging action from the bottom upwards when trimming sides e A
15. grease This should be carried out after approximately every 20 working hours Use Jonsered special grease Cleaning and lubrication pel Clean any resin and plant residue from the blades using cleaning agent before and after using the machine Lubricate the blade bars with special grease before long periods of storage English 19 MAINTENANCE Maintenance schedule The following is a list of the maintenance that must be performed on the machine Most of the items are described in the Maintenance section The user must only carry out the maintenance and service work described in this Operator s Manual More extensive work must be carried out by an authorized service workshop Daily maintenance Weekly maintenance Monthly Maintenance maintenance Clean the outside of the machine Make sure the throttle trigger lock and the throttle function correctly from a safety point of view Check that the stop switch works correctly Check that the blades do not move when the engine is idling or when the choke is in the start throttle position Check that the blades are undamaged and show no signs of cracking or other damage Replace the blades if necessary Clean the air filter Replace if necessary Check that nuts and screws are tight Check that there are no fuel leaks from the engine tank or fuel lines Check the starter and starter cord Clean the outside of the spark plug Remove it and check the elec
16. ir filter must be regularly cleaned to remove dust and dirt in order to avoid e Carburettor malfunctions e Starting problems e Loss of engine power e Unnecessary wear to engine parts e Excessive fuel consumption Clean the filter every 25 hours or more regularly if conditions are exceptionally dusty Cleaning the air filter Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter Wash it clean in warm soapy water Ensure that the filter is dry before refitting it An air filter that has been in use for a long time cannot be cleaned completely The filter must therefore be replaced with a new one at regular intervals A damaged air filter must always be replaced If the machine is used in dusty conditions the air filter should be soaked in oil See instructions under the heading Oiling the air filter Oiling the air filter Always use special filter oil Filter oil contains a solvent to make it soread evenly through the filter You should therefore avoid skin contact Put the filter in a plastic bag and pour the filter oil over it Knead the plastic bag to distribute the oil Squeeze the excess oil out of the filter inside the plastic bag and pour off the excess before fitting the filter to the machine Never use common engine oil This would drain through the filter quite quickly and collect in the bottom MAINTENANCE Gear ee There are three grease nipples on the gearbox Use a grease gun to top up with
17. machine is equipped with a catalytic converter see chapter on Technical data always use a good quality unleaded petrol oil mixture Leaded petrol will destroy the catalytic converter Use low emission petrol also known as alkylate petrol if it is available e The lowest octane recommended is 90 RON If you run the engine on a lower octane grade than 90 so called knocking can occur This gives rise to a high engine temperature which can result in serious engine damage e When working at continuous high revs a higher octane rating is recommended Two stroke oil e For best results and performance use JONSERED two stroke engine oil which is specially formulated for our air cooled two stroke engines e Never use two stroke oil intended for water cooled engines sometimes referred to as outboard oil rated TCW e Never use oil intended for four stroke engines e Mixing ratio 1 50 2 with JONSERED two stroke oil 1 33 3 with oils class JASO FB or ISO EGB formulated for air cooled two stroke engines Two stroke oil litre Petrol litre 2 1 50 3 1 33 ow po w pa po English 11 FUEL HANDLING Mixing Fuelling e Al ix th ili iner i ways mix the petrol and oil in a clean container intended for fuel e e Always start by filling half the amount of the petrol to be used Then add the entire amount of oil Mix shake the fuel mixture Add the remaining amount of petrol WARNING Taking
18. nough to allow the washers under the screw heads to slide sideways When the blades are correctly adjusted the play between the blades should be 0 2 0 4 mm measured at the screws The edges of the blades are too hard to be filed Dull blades should be sharpened using a grinder Replace the blades if they are bent or damaged Gear The gear housing gets hot when the machine has been in use To avoid burning yourself do not touch the gear housing ASSEMBLY Fitting the main body ee Connect the engine A to the tube B with four screws C Connecting throttle cable and stop switch wires ee 1 Insert the throttle cable A through the carburettor bracket B then screw the cable adjuster sleeve C into the carburettor bracket fully 2 Position the slotted fitting D on the carburettor so the recessed hole E for the cable lug F is away from the cable adjuster sleeve 3 Rotate the carburettor throttle cam and slip the throttle cable through the slot in the slotted fitting making sure the cable lug drops into the recessed hole 4 Operate the throttle trigger a few times to make sure that it works correctly 5 Adjust the cable adjuster sleeve so the stop on the carburettor throttle cam just contacts the throttle stop and the cable position keep 1 2 mm play between the cable lug and the slotted fitting when the throttle trigger is fully depressed 1 2mm 6 When the throttle cable is a
19. nto contact with sparks or naked flames for example from electrical machinery electric motors electrical relays switches or boilers e When storing and transporting fuel always use approved containers intended for this purpose e When storing the machine for long periods the fuel tank must be emptied Contact your local petrol station to find out where to dispose of excess fuel e Ensure the machine is cleaned and that a complete service is carried out before long term storage e The transport guard must always be fitted to the cutting attachment when the machine is being transported or in storage e Secure the machine during transport WARNING Take care when handling fuel Bear in mind the risk of fire explosion and inhaling fumes Fuel NB The machine is equipped with a two stroke engine and must always been run using a mixture of petrol and two stroke oil It is important to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mixed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained When mixing small amounts of fuel even small inaccuracies can drastically affect the ratio of the mixture WARNING Fuel and fuel fumes are highly inflammable and can cause serious injury when inhaled or allowed to come in contact with the skin For this reason observe caution when handling fuel and make sure there is adequate ventilation Petrol Pe NB Always use a quality petrol oil mixture at least 90 octane RON If your
20. o applies at idle speed Contact can result in burns to the skin Remember the risk of fire English 17 MAINTENANCE Cooling system Ti To keep the working temperature as low as possible the machine is equipped with a cooling system The cooling system consists of 1 Cooling fins on the cylinder 2 Cylinder cover directs cold air over the cylinder Clean the cooling system with a brush once a week more often in demanding conditions A dirty or blocked cooling system results in the machine overheating which causes damage to the piston and cylinder Spark plug Plo The spark plug condition is influenced by e Incorrect carburettor adjustment e An incorrect fuel mixture too much or incorrect type of oil e Adirty air filter These factors cause deposits on the spark plug electrodes which may result in operating problems and starting difficulties If the machine is low on power difficult to start or runs poorly at idle speed always check the spark plug first before taking any further action If the spark plug is dirty clean it and check that the electrode gap is 0 6 0 7 mm The spark plug should be replaced after about a month in operation or earlier if necessary 0 6 0 7 mm CAUTION Always use the recommended spark plug type Use of the wrong spark plug can damage the piston cylinder Check that the spark plug is fitted with a suppressor 18 English Air filter lt p T The a

22. ontrolled by two independent return springs This arrangement means that the throttle control is automatically locked at the idle setting Make sure the throttle control is locked at the idle setting when the throttle lockout is released Press the throttle lockout and make sure it returns to its Original position when you release it Check that the throttle control and throttle lockout move freely and that the return springs work properly See instructions under the heading Start Start the hedge trimmer and apply full throttle Release the throttle trigger and check that the blades stop and remain stationary If the blades move when the throttle trigger is in the idle position then the carburettor idle setting must be adjusted See instructions under the heading Maintenance Stop switch Use the stop switch to switch off the engine Start the engine and make sure the engine stops when you move the stop switch to the stop setting Muffler The muffler is designed to keep noise levels to a minimum and to direct exhaust fumes away from the user A muffler fitted with a catalytic converter is also designed to reduce harmful exhaust gases English GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS In countries that have a warm and dry climate there is a significant risk of fire We therefore fit certain mufflers with a spark arrestor mesh Check whether the muffler on your machine is fitted with thi

24. s contact your dealer service workshop Do not use the machine until it has been correctly adjusted or repaired Muffler CAUTION Some mufflers are fitted with a catalytic converter See chapter on Technical data to see whether your machine is fitted with a catalytic converter The muffler is designed to reduce the noise level and to direct the exhaust gases away from the operator The exhaust gases are hot and can contain sparks which may cause fire if directed against dry and combustible material Some mufflers are equipped with a special spark arrestor mesh If your machine has this type of muffler you should clean the mesh at least once a week This is best done with a wire brush On mufflers without a catalytic converter the mesh should be cleaned weekly or replaced if necessary On mufflers fitted with a catalytic converter the mesh should be checked and if necessary cleaned monthly If the mesh is damaged it should be replaced If the mesh is frequently blocked this can be a sign that the performance of the catalytic converter is impaired Contact your dealer to inspect the muffler A blocked mesh will cause the machine to overheat and result in damage to the cylinder and piston See also instructions under the heading Maintenance CAUTION Never use a machine with a defective muffler WARNING Mufflers fitted with catalytic converters get very hot during use and remain so for some time after stopping This als
