2. clearly marked denoting plus as red and minus as black Maintaining the plus minus convention throughout your system will ensure proper performance As a quick check reverse the polarity of one speaker and listen to the result The type of wire you use is entirely up to you However we do recommend that you use the minimum lengths of wire required for your installation Generally heavier wire lower gauge numbers reduces the potential for signal losses The input terminal is located towards the bottom of the rear panel Binding post terminals are utilized which can accomodate a variety of connectors banana type plug spade terminal pin terminal or bare wire A tight connection will ensure reliable operation PLACEMENT The HAFLER Model 200 Loudspeakers are compact and lend themselves to a number of installations Proper placement within your listening environment may greatly enhance your listening experience Since each application is unique we encourage you to experiment with where you place your speakers keeping the following guidelines in mind Distance between two loudspeakers affects stereo imaging If the loudspeakers are brought closer together the sound stage will become narrower Increasing the distance between two loudspeakers may create a hole within the soundstage Pointing them inward relative to the listening area may help imaging for speakers placed very far apart For a well defined soundstage we recommend
3. that the speakers be placed six to eight feet Low frequency output can be adjusted by boundary proximity Moving a speaker closer to a boundary enhances the bass output For optimum sonic performance we recommend the use of optional stands with the Model 200 Loudspeakers Placing the stands with the speakers two to three feet from the rear boundary will produce a well balanced soundfield The Model 200 Loudspeakers are compact enough to fit onto a book shelf or entertainment center In these applications the speakers should be placed at least four to six inches from the rear boundary This distance is critical for proper vent port operation Utilizing the PORT PLUG in this application may be desirable to balance the low frequency output Feel free to experiment CARE The hardwood cabinets are finished with Watco Danish Oil which penetrates and hardens the wood Periodic maintenance and cleaning will add longevity to your speakers finish We recommend wiping down the enitre cabinet with lemon oil and buffing with a soft clean cloth Furniture polish containing waxes is not recommended Accumulated dust may be removed from the grille assembly by using a feather duster gently and sparingly You may want to remove the grille from the speaker before dusting The drive units in your Model 200 Loudspeaker system are very delicate devices If they become dusty gently go over them with a feather duster It is important not to damag

6. rs PORT PLUG The PORT PLUG included with the Model 200 Loudspeaker systems is used to prevent the enclosure port tuning effect This may be desirable when matching the Model 200 Loudspeakers with additional low frequency systems subwoofers or loading them into corners see section on placement When using additional low frequency systems the Model 200 loudspeakers are not required to reproduce low frequencies and should be used with a high pass crossover Depending on the type of crossover and the crossover frequency the port output may still be present and contribute to the overall system response The PORT PLUG eliminates the tuned output and effectively seals the enclosure Therefore reducing the low frequency output and providing an air spring for the low frequency driver The air spring provides a back pressure to the woofer and reduces its motion which results in an increase in the ability to handle large low frequency transients Normally the Model 200 Loudspeakers should be used without the PORT PLUG Use the PORT PLUG when the above situations arise Although using the PORT PLUG in the normal mode of operation will not damage the Model 200 Loudspeakers the tonal balance will be affected WIRING Maintaining proper polarity when wiring the speakers is important Improper wiring will degrade the sonic performance of your audio system Low frequency output will be mostly affected due to phase cancellation The input terminal is
